WAR/SAM top of the merit job heap?

No, it helps them to a further extent, DA has diminishing returns. Using ares legs over haidate also makes no sense.

As far as Ares vs Haidate goes. Well, I can understand preferring Haidate over Ares as it offers a lot of accuracy for two handed weapons. It's 15 DEX vs 6 DEX 6 STR 2% Double Attack though, some people might make the swap. Either way, that's where the extra 2% probably came from.

I'm fairly certain its because of the Haste, not the Dexterity

Duh pole strap lol I use that. Just such a new piece I'd sorta taken it for granted. Ya eventually my goal would be to cancel Agg merits and go 5/5 Zerk/DA but atm no E.Body or Bravura close in sight so having the additional accuracy on 50 secs more often seems a better trade off then 1-5% DA. In merits I'd probably be better swapping to a mix of Zerk/DA but I've never been the kind of person who thinks, "I should merit this because it'll do well in merits" I prefer to merit for endgame.

I've parsed above things like Ridill WARs and BB MNKs (though also below sometimes!), so I can say for sure that DRK/SAM is a potent merit job and definitely worth considering inviting. Whether it is "above" war/sam, I do not know. There are many factors, including blind luck, which influence things. I would like to think the DD are equal but I am obviously biased towards DRK/SAM. Sorry if this is considered a mini-derail, just felt the need to defend DRK/SAM in the context of this discussion.

Those BB MNKs you outparsed must not have been very good, remember who outparses you with a Brown Belt Anyway, I'm eager to merit with you again sometime with 2 bards, myself as /war and you using Hasso fulltime. We just need a dedicated healer, or rdm+whm and just go with 1 bard. Or we can always bug Droob to come on COR!

Well, you were using superior food to me and the bard songs were accomodating to you =P I don't need a madrigal on most of those. Regardless, it'll be a good challenge -- especially if I get Homam Legs ;P gotta love 18% Haste as opposed to my current 15%.

Geno: shut up. remember why my drk stomped all over everything in merit parties? it's because I didn't waste time spamming pointless dark magic.

There was a topic awhile back during some of the initial 2hander tweaking where Ryko and I were doing some testing/parsing, and some idiot drk tried to call me out for not casting drains enough XD I was saying back then that they're generally not worth casting, and that abs-tp isn't worth casting in the slightest unless you're pretty damn sure you can get more than 35 or so TP (realistically you should be shooting for significantly more than 35).

The comparison is always colored by song choice. min/min is way more beneficial for 2-handers, as 1h users get less out of the second min and usually get more out of madrigal.

My preferred song choice:
2 brd = min/mar/mar/mad
brd + cor = mar/mar/drk/cor
1 brd: mazurka around town while looking for 2nd brd or a cor

My mnk/nin AF averages ~1000 on purely colibri under optimal conditions. This parse includes about 16% Wivres, and demoralizing roar fucks up WS averages very fast. About the only thing I'm missing is Ethereal Earring, which would add a very nice chunk of evasion during combat allowing me to cast utsusemi ichi a bit less. One nice side effect of using full Usukane is that I do evade quite often.

I estimate mnk/war should average maybe 10% more until it does a faceplant from too many flurry pecks.

Vistani in the parse is a war/nin; he has close to optimal gear as well. During the party, he would either be slightly over or slightly under my share, depending on zergressor timing.
