Resolution questions

Couple questions...

If i'm running windower on a laptop at 1280 x 800 res, is it best to keep the same ratio on the window (ie. If I want to run a pretty large window, would it be best to do something like 1152 x 720)?

Also on the background resolution, i've heard a few different opinions if its better to set the registry at the window res or the regular 1024 x 1024.. Like, if i'm running 1152 x 720 would it be better to put background res at 1024 x 1024 or 1152 x 720?

If you want the window to be as large as possible without being your desktop's resolution, you could keep it the same aspect ratio or you could make it wide screen. I use 1152x768 with a setting of 15:10 in FFXI.

As for background resolution, the bigger the better, but remember to keep it square. So either 1024x1024 or 1152x1152. If you want anti-aliasing, do double your FFXI's resolution's biggest value. So 2304x2304 if you choose 1152x768, or 800x800 if you set it to 100x400 (for example).

Oh hmm, I didn't know that. Why would you want to keep the background res square? Wouldn't that skew everything? In any case, I changed my registry to 3200x3200 (I play on a 1600x900 window/foreground res, 3200x1800 background res -- I previously thought your background res was supposed to be twice that of your foreground... I probably misunderstood though), so I'm excited to see what it'll look like when I log in tonight. =D
