a 1k laptop will not run every current game on max max settings, and if it does (which I doubt) it won't for long. You're gonna have to spend 2k on avg, possibly 3 depending on where you get it from. I personally bought a Sager from xoticpc.com 2 years ago and its still running strong. alienware is possible too, just make similar builds and go with the best priced one.
Friends told me this is good to ;x?

If you just have to have a laptop and want to spend that much money, look here..

Shit's expensive... I always ask people if there going to spend that kind of money if it's an asbolute that it has to be a laptop. You can pack so much punch in a desktop for 2-3k >.>

I recommend doing business with XoticPC, they have great support and good prices.
Should look at the Sager/Clevo models

You are probably going to want to look at the NP8690 NP8760 or NP8120 models.
Asus also has the G73(can google it) out, but it's on back order for several weeks, depending on the model you are looking for.
As I stated above I recently got an M11x, and overall I find it to be outstanding, can't really think of a single thing I'd complain about except maybe the volume level of the speakers (but hey it's a tiny laptop so can't expect huge volume). All of the laptops are co-designed by Alienware and Dell now, and afaik they are all fairly solid. My other laptop is an XPS 1730, which is more or less the precursor to the M17x, and in the year I've owned it it's been a great and stable machine, as long as I kept a laptop cooler handy, which usually a good idea for any gaming laptop anyways.
Btw for the Sager models I would strongly suggest not buying any of their laptops based around the desktop i7s. It sounds awesome in theory but laptops quite simply cannot dissipate heat well enough to expect any kind of substantial life out that laptop.
I am looking at a M11x, will it be able to handle 14? The only thing I don't like about the M11x's is the external optical drive. Kinda want a BD drive, but that isn't an option.![]()
Idk, have to see what kind of system reqs 14 will have. As it stands I can play games like Mass Effect 2, Just Cause 2, Dragon Age, Borderlands, etc (i.e. new games) on mixes of high/medium settings and be at a steady 30 fps+ (or 60 flat in SF4 and DMC 4). The big factor for 14 would be how heavily it relies on the CPU, since some CPU heavy games (notably strategy games) can drag a little bit.
And having no drive doesn't matter anyways, that's what Steam (or stuff like Direct2Drive) is for.
I fucking love mine, I've almost totally stopped using my 17" gaming laptop cause this things gets the job done just as well and is a hell of a lot easier to carry.
So I got a new job and would like a new laptop for it (plus gaming). Willing to spend $900 max. Would prefer something with an I5 processor.
I've been looking at laptops and these so far seem to be my top 3. Any suggestions?

Would really like some help on making a decision or if someone knows of a laptop around the same price range lemme know.
Soooo my lappy looks like it might have died on me (haven't given up hope yet but it wont turn on LOL). So I wanna get some advice on a good/cheapy lappy. All I use my laptop for is at work for emails and word n' shit.
Also use rosetta stone for a student learning english. I don't need it for gaming (that's what my desktop is for). So really looking for something that's cheap, but not "cheap quality" (don't want to buy a 300$ laptop that's going to break in 3 months).
Any suggestions?
I love my ASUS G73JH-A1. They're hard to find, but kick ass... 1500+ Though. TO the guy with a 6000$ budget for a laptop, lol wow.

Laptop i5s aren't really anything special, it's kind of a mislabel on Intel's part since people sort of automatically think that a CPU with an i in the front is a quad core. Of the 3 you linked, they all have rather crappy graphic cards. Sorting out Laptop graphic cards is infinitely more confusing then with desktops because the the number schemes really don't make any sense.
Processors are pretty easy to sort out overall, then I've used this site to sort out the strength of the various graphic cards - http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-...ist.844.0.html
All that being said, the Samsung is your best bet. It has by far the best graphic card of the bunch, and the highest resolution screen.
So I'm thinking about a laptop for grad school around the 1200~ price point. Lower is better but I will go up to 1200 for a great combination of performance with good battery life when I'm not gaming and need to haul it around classes for a day.
Mainly shooting for capability to play XI and SC2 (XIV absolutely not a factor for me).
I can wait until September if there are any expected releases coming (and consequent price drops). But right now I'm considering...
1) M11x
2) http://www.amazon.com/Republic-Gamer...9477478&sr=8-7
3) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+...&skuId=9728443
I'm concerned about the M11x's processor imbalance, especially because I think XI tends to be processor heavy vs. GPU heavy. I'm spoiled with my desktop and don't know if I could go back to Super NES graphics (what I had to deal with on my former desktop replacement laptop that got pushed too hard and died early). But on the pro side, I really like the mobility factor. Plus the general Alienware build quality is nice.
I like the specs for price on the Asus which are the best I've seen. I'm leaning towards this one but I worry about battery life. I think it'll only get about 3.5-4hrs on minimum settings, and I'm not sure I can order a 9-cell separately and use it.
I like the Samsung's price but I worry about the Samsung's gfx card and its battery life. I'd want to switch the battery on this one too if I could.
So.........
Considering my laptop is missing 2 keys, and 2 other keys do not work........ forcing me to use a external keyboard with my laptop..... plus the fact that my battery does not hold a charge anymore....... maybe its time for a new one.
So i'm looking at this
Spoiler: show
Comes out to about $1300...... Cons?
I could upgrade to 6gb Ram for a extra $100 right now.... as dell is offering a discount on the laptop, and discount on memory upgrades until april 1st.
Used search function, failed, etc.
Are cooling pads like this worth it? I don't need usb ports, and a wall outlet is usually available (only use laptop at home/school), but the current laptop, it just gets so hot to the touch when playing FFXI that I worry about it and in the future, the laptop I intend to buy when SE puts out official recommended specs for XIV.
You'll need to find out which way the laptop sucks in air to match with the cooling pad. If they act against each other then it is not so efficient.
I think cooling pads are worth it, they help laptop stay cool in most cases and can extend the life of your own laptop, for example on my Dell XPS m1210 I had a pad which prevented the internal fan from spinning most of the time, compared to my first ever laptop with no pad where the internal fan eventually broke and died because it was on constantly.
Looks like the only fan I can see on the bottom of the laptop is in one corner (looking down at the keyboard, the upper left, but on the other (bottom) side obviously). So it looks like one with the fans in the center would be preferable then?
I have the same question really, my laptop keeps overheating when I use it. I try putting things under it to elevate it because I thought the desk was blocking the fans but it still shuts down... So I am looking to buy a cooling pad but I read online that they suck up a lot of energy and clog the laptops fan with dust, so any idea?
I bought a new laptop and was curious if you all thought I got a good deal out of it. It cost around $800 or so, I really wanted the Asus cause of the 1GB of dedicated memory, but this $800 was all I could really afford and the Samsung seemed pretty close to what I was looking for. If you think I can do better for $800 please don't hesitate to comment.
