    FFXIV

Hi I'm a newb. I wandered in here because I'm experiencing buyers remorse on the new laptop I got and wondering if it would be worth it to trade it in for a gaming machine.

I really want to play FFXIV when it comes out - My goal was to get a PS3 for this, so when my laptop died last week I replaced it with a $500 Toshiba for internet and daily necessities - it's crap for any new games. However, I think I might really miss the mobility I had when I played FFXI on a laptop, especially because I have a two year old daughter and if she decides to switch rooms mid-game I can take it with me.

I'm willing to spend up to $900 or $1k for this. After that, I'd rather just go with the PS3 and keep the laptop I got.

Any suggestions? I looked at that long list that Krandor posted but not gonna lie - I'm really not technically inclined and I just need to see suitable computers and choose one.
I'm looking at the Best buy Toshibas, maybe something like this:
Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033 (can be found at Best Buy, I am a n00b so I can't post links)

Any thoughts? I'm really attached to Toshibas, they tend to last forever. I really want to avoid HP or Compaq, ugh. THANKS.

Hi there everyone. Just was wondering if anyone could help me out maybe. Before the summer ends, I wanted to get a new laptop for school. I do download music, watch streaming movies, and I might put a game or two on there. It will mostly be leisure use. With the job I have, my budget will be around $600.

Can anyone think of any models or brands that have a pretty good quality for around that price? If there are any laptops that are a LITTLE more expensive and are really really good I am open to suggestions. Thank you so much in advance!

Hey all, came down to two laptops and was wondering what you all thought. I want to be able to play most games on max settings with both of these, the G series one is obviously better but I wasn't sure if it was "200 dollars better".

Is there 1199.99 bad boy miles ahead? Seems so, but just wanted some confirmation.

Jesus just shy of 2 and half hours of battery life lol.

Anyhow, as far as laptops and pricey computer hardware go, I'm never of the opinion you should have to pay full price given how often deals come up. If the twelve-hundo sticker is a little daunting, stalk http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-...puters-laptop/ for a little while and see if something else catches your eye. Off the bat there's a $1150 Toshiba with an i7 that's 40% off.

There's plenty of other sites to check, that's just an easy one with a nice deals-filter.

Any recommendations for an all-around solid laptop buy for a max budget of $500? Friend is shopping and I've found at least one option that looks pretty good (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc..._-34115728-L0A) but there's so many now that it's hard to sort them out ;/

Hey everyone looking to buy a new laptop and I really have no idea where to start looking and kinda just looking for any advise I can get about buying one.

I am looking for a laptop to play a few games mostly a little FFXI and maybe FFXIV and maybe a few new ones (nothing comes to mind atm not a big pc gamer) I would like a laptop with HD 1080p or atleast 900 depending on price and a blu-ray disk reader. I will also be using it for media editing such as video and some photo stuff. Any ideas or starting packages to look at would be great,
    Thanks.

    Similar post O.o?

My Brother's 6 year old lap top has seen better days, I've tried to keep it up to date -_-; the best I can with the little knowledge I have with laptops.

Long story short, he's looking for a new laptop... No gaming, doesn't DL music, stream or do anything crazy. He uses it for word docs, listening to the music I DL <_<; surfing webs. Just something basic I suppose.

any good ideas would be appreciated.

No real need for a suggestion... just check shops and get whatever is the cheapest/good brand with at least a Core 2 duo and you're fine.

The Toshiba is newer tech and you're not really getting appreciably more bang for your buck from the other one...but I personally abhor toshiba after experiencing several total systemwide failures after about two years of ownership (both in my own household and through friends).

If I could only pick one of those two, I'd take the other just to avoid toshiba. But I wouldn't buy either one myself since I don't really like refurbs either >_>

ASUS one is probably better though it's a bit overkill already with the Nvidia chipset if there is really no gaming involved, but the price is decent compared to brand new product.

I can vouch for Acer's laptop... their repair services are top

Protip: Get your Windows refunded if you already have one (and if it's even possible in USA), I got 70€ back on my laptop when I did D:

It takes around 2 weeks to receive your laptop/pc once you order it. Considering spec constantly go up with time, I wouldn't worry about it until you're close to the release.

If you want a better deal, that's it. If you could use a laptop now, then whatever.
