i didn't write anything down, but the software list on the toshiba site was my guide:

TOSHIBA ConfigFree®, TOSHIBA Power-saving Eco utility™, Corel® DVD MovieFactory® for TOSHIBA, TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor, TOSHIBA DVD Player, TOSHIBA Disc Creator, TOSHIBA Recovery Disk Creator, WildTangent® Orb™ Games Console, TOSHIBA Hard Drive Impact Sensor (3D sensor), Microsoft® Office Home and Student 2007 Edition (60-day trial), Hard disc (HDD) recovery, TOSHIBA Face Recognition, Microsoft® Silverlight™ , Norton Internet Security™ 2010 (30-day trial), Microsoft® Windows Live Essentials including Photo Gallery, Messenger, Mail and Writer., TOSHIBA Bulletin Board™, Microsoft® Works Version 9.0, TOSHIBA ReelTime™
this is all "value added" bloat and not necessary for laptop function, except the impact sensor, arguable things in the list are the Norton security (which i believe is just a software-firewall) and the Hard disc (HDD) recovery

my real beef was that all this garbage was on the tiny ssd drive instead of the regular one

Okay, and did you delete the Norton + HDD? I had a hell of a time getting rid of Norton on this PC. Shit like buries itself in.

Here's a good walk thru for using msconfig.

And here's a huge list of start up applications and whether they are needed or not.

Samsung is actually making some quality machines right now and your local best buy may have some still on clearance from the last quarter, I suggest looking for an R580. http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/sams...-33974719.html

For those trying to remove or identify bloatware, try this: http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/home - It's been referenced on a ton of tech sites over the years for this specific purpose. I've never used it myself, but from the sources I've seen it seems trustworthy and effective.

I'm somewhat computer literate, at least when it comes to desktops, but I recently picked up a laptop from BestBuy and I can't figure something out. Why can't I connect to my network via ethernet cable? When the wireless card is switched off there are no networks listed, or connected. I'm positive the cable is in, and in the right spot, there's even a white light that shines into it. When I first bought it I tried it in a hotel and could only connect wirelessly, same for at a friend's house, however, when diagnosing the problem it brought up an error stating something about the IP isn't configured correctly for the network or something to that effect, also only wirelessly at my house. It might be something really simple, but I'm stumped.

Better off building a desktop. Games are most likely going to run like shit on a laptop @ that price.

That's exactly what I've been telling the people that are requesting laptops from me. I'm not crazy computer savvy, the current desktop I have now I built after doing lots of research on what would be best purchases at the time and that was a good 2 years ago now.

When it comes to laptops I have no idea what's in them, I've seen similar processors and the ram but other things just make me go beh?

BUT! these laptops are for family friends kids who are in middle school-high school and they take the laptops with them everywhere. They would be lost if they didn't have the laptops with them at all times :/

tell them "mainly for upcoming SC2 and eventually FFXIV" and "budget: 600$" are mutually exclusive options, pick one.

your low-end for gaming laptop is probably 1500$

Need help finding a laptop that will be used for FF14 and for general school use. I'm commuting to college, so I don't want a desktop. Not sure what sort of specifications I should look for.

Price range is around $1.5k, with maybe a hard cap of $2k

Not much to setting up multiple monitors really. Just need a GPU with multiple outputs and two wires + two monitors connected. Really is as simple as that.

Seconding this as this is pretty much my exact situation.
