Could someone give me a rundown of the differences between the various models of that Asus G73JH, or a link to it?

I'm going to be in the US for a few years, going to get a laptop when i arrive. had a macbook pro picked out without really looking too much into it, but that Asus looks interesting.

I might stick a game or two on it, I'm very serious about my racing simulators but nothing too demanding game wise.

What i do that even bogs my behemoth(albeit a few years old now) of a desktop down is photograph processing, in industrial quantities, by the thousand. I need the most efficient thing i can possibly get for that purpose, money no object.

Suggestions/links/etc welcome.

What do you mean by 1333 and 1066

The differences in G73 models are:

1900x1080 screen vs 1650xwhatever

500gb HDD vs a larger or smaller one

BluRay vs non blu ray

some backpack that comes with it vs no backpack

6gb of ram in it vs 8gb of ram in it.

Those are the main differences, which is why I purchased the cheapest version, and tossed an extra 2gb of ram into it for 50$.

Is anyone else finding that all the websites are only offering 1066 speed RAM for the Asus g73?

Is there a big difference between 1066 and 1333

I'm thinking of picking up a G73 soon since I'll be going underway for a few months come November and want a little more beef then my M11x.

Can all versions of it fit 2 Hard Drives? I'm guessing so since it seems the only different between units is easily swappable components.

I don't have mine yet but as far as i know the Bestbuy one doesnt come with a second set of brackets(only 1 HDD fitted, but the 2nd bay is open), you can get them separate but they might be a tricky find. ASUS themselves don't have them as far as i know. Theres a third party website called Asusparts.eu i think that does stock them occasionally.

Some people say double sided foam tape around the HDD works too.

Remember the HDDs are 2.5inch also.

Yeah I decided against the Best Buy version anyways, it skims too much off the top for me to consider it. Rather pay an extra ~$250ish on Newegg for the full featured version of the laptop.

I have to pick up a new laptop. My budget is around $1,200 with a hard cap of $1,500. I will use my computer mainly for photo editing and I already have photoshop elements 8 to install on it. Though it would be nice if it also ran ffxiv since my desktop is old and won't run it well. Are there any current trends or preferences in brands? I was recommended to look at HP, Toshiba, and Asus by a co-worker.

This laptop is not primarily for gaming, I want it to be on the smaller size 13" screen minimum but 16" screen maximum, I do plan on taking it with me places on a regular basis. I was also looking at a macbook pro. What are the advantages/disadvantages of getting a mac vs. a pc in the laptop area?

Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to help me out with this.

A laptop that is going to decently play FFXIV is going to be 1500+ unless you gun for the the Best Buy version of the Asus G73. Simple fact of life that the words "gaming" and "laptop" together are gonna cost a decent chunk of cash. I sold my desktop replacement recently and am upgrading to a new "big" laptop in a month or so (Have an alienware m11x for portabilities sake), and I've priced it out to around $1700 after discounts w/ all the upgrades I want.

You can try checking out Sager laptops (which is what I'm buying) and seeing what kind of pricing you can figure out, since imo they offer the best bang for the buck in the mid range (1000-2000) laptop world.

Yeah I do not have high hopes at all for gaming on the laptop and that is 100% secondary. Mostly I want portability since I will take it with me on trips, and good amount of ram and a good video card specifically for sorting photographs. That really is the majority of what I will be using it for. Thanks for the tip I will check out Sager.

Honestly I'm a big advocate of not buying from Dell. They have shitty laptop builds, that fail more often than being actually good.
