It doesn't take a huge amount of -enmity and a decent tank to have a blm's dmg limited purely by hMP, so I'd never personally build for it. Sitting on our arses half the time is usually decent hate control.

This statement isn't bad, but forgets one thing. When was the last time your home city owned Mt. Zhayolm? Do you Care who wins epeen manaburn contests in Gustav? In KRT in the hidden room?? Have you even played long enough to have leveled there??? I can't think of a single mob in original/zilart/CoP areas upon which I would care to spend the time to run a manaburn on, other than aerns in sea (to pop ix'drg or in palace for ix'mnk pops), and you can't own sea!

Of course it's great when it works. Which is primarily during those middle levels where you may be leveling in areas where the effect could be active. But we're talking about headgear you wear at 75, and nobody at 75 does virtually anything of note in the original areas where your home city can hold influence, aside from KS99s as Kuno noted. At 75, where this discussion is relevant, the only zones that most people spend much of any time in where conquest items can be active are dynamis, limbus, and sea, which again cannot be owned by your home city. Thus (my understanding is) only items that are active when your home city does NOT own the region are useful on a regular basis, such as Master Caster Bracelets.

Edit: Ok, I see that the otherwiki says that the circlet is always active in non-controllable areas. I for one would be very surprised by that, but I personally have not tested it, so I accept that it could be true. Still, I probably wouldn't bring along a spare headpiece just for aern manaburns, I've got too much gear as it is. However, if true, this might be useful for dynamis, if you can really pimp yourself out and maybe push yourself to reliably 1-shot statues. Though it'd probably take full morrigans for that which would mean you couldn't use the headpiece anyways. In any case, can someone who has the circlet please verify the effect in dynamis/limbus/sea? I'm curious.

I just keep it in storage until an opportunity to use it pops up. Not like I'm going to be walking along and suddenly be in a situation where its useful, except maybe for corses/elementals at a random tiamat pop.

You'd be losing 4 INT and 5 macc by using the circlet instead of Coronal.
Gaining 5 MAB from Circlet, but losing 5 MAB from set bonus so yeah. Get rid of yours boy!

edit: Well you could use it when you are using AF2 pants for day bonus and in an area where it works, but otherwise no.

I neglected to mention Circlet because it wasn't part of the question. He either doesn't have one or doesn't give a shit. He wasn't asking about it. If he has BLM75 he's probably aware of it and what it does.

It's also highly dependant on your nation and what you do with your BLM. Some people never really leave ToAU areas with it and some people are :bastok: so the circlet very rarely comes into play.

From reading hundreds of your posts, I consider you a BLM worth his salt, and had therefore assumed you owned one and used it appropriately. I certainly don't carry it full time, I was just commenting on the recent bunch of new BLMs who've been forced to solo in exotic camps who seem to have had a very different and narrower learning experience than those of us who've been around (in terms of the job at least) a lot longer. I don't blame them for it, circumstance has vastly changed the way BLM is viewed outside of end-game events, so they need a prod in the right direction now and then. Most of them "get it" pretty quickly, it's just that minority.
