Well this is where I'm coming from. I have never seen it, and enough people who post here have also never seen it, and usually the people who do claim to have seen it are clearly mistaken (see: the recent randomer question post where the guy claims his LS was fighting Hydra when Aspid popped right after maintenance, while Hydra wouldn't have been up either). So I guess where I wanted to go next was to ask how many instances of it not occurring would dissuade you from thinking it possible.

Remember that every time there's a server maintenance, there are 96 aery/dominion/valley pops. So if there was an open call for screenshot evidence, it would only take a handful of maintenances to get pretty overwhelming evidence of it not being possible (or a counter-example in the offchance I'm actually wrong here).

I see what you're saying, and it makes sense. It does seem like there would be a lot more evidence of it occuring if it were in fact possible. I do remember seeing it happen three times, though, so I'm convinced of it being possible, just very rare.

HQ Kings cannot pop immediately after maintenance, nor can they pop within a few days after the last time they died.

Most OG players on Cerberus will remember the day back in 2005 when all 3 kings popped after maintenance.

Gonna poke Xrave when I see him and see if he can come provide some info on this.

Though I doubt my word will have any impact, I have seen KB pop right after Maint. I do have screen shots. It's hard to say from my pic that it was indeed right after maintenance. Since there are so few in the dominion and that he is unclaimed would help.

If you're wondering if they patched it, the two I saw on Fairy were both definitely 2005/2006, but it happened here on Cerberus only about 5-6 months ago.

Day 1-3 is NQ, day 4 starts HQ. However kings can pop on maintenance.

As Vandyr posted up there, anyone on Cerb that was around in KoN back around 2005 can come attest to this. There was a maintenance one day when all 3 kings popped after servers came up. Fun times.

Kings on maintenance just doesn't happen often...and on that one all the planets happened to allign.

I have seen Nidhogg spawn many times the day after a maintenance, as well as after only two Fafnirs since the last Nidhogg spawn.

Server Maintenance/ Day 2: NQ > Day 3: Possible HQ

Otherwise: HQ > Day 1: NQ > Day 2: NQ > Day 3: Possible HQ

The reason I asked is because looking through old threads, Tuesday July 25, 2006 7pm was exactly one day after a version update (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11144). Proceeding under the assumption that the "created" date matches the time you actually took the screenshot, that would mean it wasn't taken immediately after maintenance but rather the next day. It's been two years, so is it possible it was a case where every other LS was at Fafnir day after maintenance and KB popped? It's hard to tell someone "this never happened to you" so I'm trying to avoid that, but as a (not entirely unbiased) third party that's how it would appear to me.

We always used to argue in Solstice about the possibility of this happening, and most people would say it can't until one day it did. Nid popped on server reboot once on ragnarok, only one occurance of this happening on our server that I can recall, so it might just be rare.

There are no rules, rhyme, or reason to how kings pop.

No matter what you think is possible or impossible, there will always be some oldfag who pops up and yells "I SEEN IT." It's just a little hard to prove with pics.

You might very well be right; My memory is very blurry (It's now 2008, I couldn't even tell you the LS I was in at the time). I just remember KB popping after maintenance, but I could very well be wrong. I do however remember as clear as day the dominion being empty (my SS's can verify this to some extent. I mean how many KB's have you seen with no one cluster-fucking around him or even remotely near?)

If someone has records of these kinda things on Asura, I'm almost positive Shiekas(sp?) claimed shortly after my crack-team of HNM Pro's got destroyed. If this matters a lot, compare dates and such.

Nid is Day 4 + .... wow just wow.... And last time I checked as soon as the servers come up after maintenance its day 3. So the day after servers come up its day 4. I could be wrong but I highly doubt that.

I should mention that I've never seen a maintenance day king but apparently it has happened on other servers. Looks to be something that is incredibly rare. As for Day 3 kings again I've never seen that happen and usually go by the general rule of 4+ HQ 3- NQ.

A King is possible to pop on maintenance, I have seen this with Aspidochelone.

Others in my linkshell disagree with me, but that is their problem. It is POSSIBLE, but yes rare.

Srsly, how many day 3 HQ's do you EVER see. What percentage of day 3 pops are ever kings, and apply that to actual server-down maintenances. You may find it's like a once a year happenstance.
