Instead of cups and water, why not fill someone's bedroom with jello on a cold winter day? So that once the jello sets, the victim can open the door to his room to be greeted by a wall-to-wall gelatinous cube. Or, if that's too much jello, just make a form for it and put a thin wall of it just inside his door so, from his side, it would look like his room was filled with jello until he punches through the jello-wall. Or if that's still too much jello, make a plaster cast of something, and then use the mold to make jello the same shape as the thing you cast. Like, a cooperative person or an object.
