Having arcs would basically mean the story is broken up into pieces and spread out over a long time. It leaves room for a lot of twists and surprises, and once an arc is completed you can move directly onto a new arc. The only other real option is to have one continuous story that, when finished, is the end of the story entirely.
That would be most sweet.Originally Posted by senoska
Using arcs you can basically have an eternally long story, with lots of things that happen, that seem to make the things that happened before completely meaningless. Just like all my favourite animes!
decided to dick around for an hour and do a GUI mockup

Superimpose the equip boxes over the silhouette. rest should be pretty self-explanatory. was also kinda too lazy to make buttons.
is there any way to have less stuff on the screen? like the Equipped thing could be in a window, same with attributes and maybe spells?
Should just be an equipment menu that comes up when you press a button instead of permanently being in sight. You already have an Equipped, Inventory, Spells, and Stats button so I don't see the point in making them all visible by default and wasting screen space.
I start school again today so the project may be delayed a little bit, I wanted to get it out to mappers by now but im having a major problem with the scripting section, give me another week and I can almost promise ill have the client out to those that want to map.
Well maybe before the library idea, you should wait to see how the game ends up and then once players get the feel for the game decide if you want to put that in or not?
Will definitely playbeta do want
I come with pictures
Almost finished maps, this is 1 city.

Got a bit more to do on these maps, but you should get the basic idea.
Captain*? I don't mean to nitpick on your spelling, and for all I know, your mispelling is intentional. Just saying x.x
While we're at it: Beggar* Joe. Anywho, looking forward to seeing the finished product.Originally Posted by Woozie

I know it sounds like an excuse but I didn't make the NPCs nor these maps, my brother did. Hes the map guy, im the code guy as it stands right now. I just logged on to take some screenys and was aware of the npc mispelling, but didnt have the time nor the care to fix it right now, everything will be right when its released.
Project is back on the fast track, fixed NPC scripting from the looks of it.
Really looking forward to this. It's a great project and I'm glad someone can actually do it. I seriously would hurt myself trying to set this all up.
Said fuck it and made a shitty GUI, GUI will be done tomorrow I hope. I got to go to class or it would be done tonight, see you guys at 8.
Only a little tiny bit to go on this, like the bottom left box needs to be filled in with stuff and what not, and the top lines need to be defined a little bit more, but beyond that, this is what you get.

I worked my ass off today, I finished the quest system, got spells working correctly, and did a GUI. I've also chose that I'm not going to encrypt any graphics and will send out the photoshop files with the client(the GUI and the sprites/graphics/etc) so if anyone wants to make or edit the sprites they can. Anywho, ill talk to you guys later
Outstanding work so far. This looks very promising.
Wish I could help out on the project, but I wouldn't have the time and I'm an unknown(hardly ever post on BG). I would like to beta test, but you likely have 100+ PM's asking for the same thing.
So...good luck in everything. I can't wait for a public release.
How much customization is going into the systems implemented into the game that go beyond the default for the engine? And by system, I mean battle system or shopping system or weather system or day/night cycle or whatever there is that might differ from the default. i.e. what makes it different from someone else's game using the same engine as far as game mechanics go? (i.e. not graphics, quests, or settings that can be changed from a GUI, but things like a skillchain/limit break/other type system in battle or an interactive shopping system where you pick up items and try them on in-store and check out at the counter rather than choosing from a menu, etc.)
Theres alot of custumizing already in the game that I already know alot of people will take forfor example, the quest system, npc scripting, item scripting, and a ton of other shit is flat out not included in the engine, it was all done by myself. Alot of the behind the screen shit if you will. If you have some ideas for stuff to add let me know and ill see if I can add it. Keep in mind I am a noob programmer so I can't do everything and if I can manage it, it very well may be half assed, but I will do my very best.
School is slowing me down big time, i'm in school and a summer math class, so my time is kind of limited and hence why this may take a bit longer.
I hope that this is as enjoyable as many think, its hard for me and my brother alone to add content, obviously him nor I are good writers so quest stories are hard, and keeping the game full of new content is a rather large challenge. I don't want this to end up like a shitty version of habbo hotel and what to keep an active player base for how much time him and I have spent on this.
Once you get the game out to those people who are set on adding content I think it will be growing until people just get bored of the game itself. Like, the mappers for example, I know when I get the alpha/beta for mapping I will be making a fuckton of maps, and really putting time and thought into what they'll be used for. Zalius will be putting time into the story and stuff. Others I'm sure, will also end up developing content for the game and so it will be unique (from a bunch of different minds) and expansive (multiple people creating content). Like, at least 5 or so mappers or whatever, you reviewing the content or whatever and adding it to the game, it won't be just you and your brother forever so the game will only continue to grow once it's more ready to be handled by the public.
