Feel retarded for not knowing this but when Gallent Cornet is equipped durring cover does it only absorb single target magic attacks directed at the person your covering or does it absorb aoe magic damage too.

Thinking maybe taking full damage from inferno blast and such a bad idea. x.x

I swear I've covered magic without it equipped. Regardles, what do you mean by aoe magic? If you cover the target of a spell, you become the spell's center, whether it's single target or AoE, and remain the center even if you move. I remember a particular instance at Kirin about 2 years ago, where I covered one of the other tanks, Kirin started casting Stonega, I ran off, and I ended up being the only person hit with the spell (I also got the Cover message). Was wearing either Aegishjalmr or Koenig Schaller at the time as well, which is why I still say that it's bullshit.

I'm not sure about taking 'double' damage from an AoE is what will happen, since I've never had the experience come up. It's worth a shot to test out in Diorama when I'm screwing around in there with friends.

Gallant Coronet lets you cover single target spells.

No AoE, magical or physical, can be covered.

You can theoretically cover AoE damage as well. It doesn't change the distribution of damage but you still get MP back for it, all you need to do is be covering the TARGET of the AoE when the AoE goes off. You'll get your MP back even though everyone is still hit with AoE.

To further elaborate, tank A has hate on Tiamat. Tank B covers (with Surcoat) tank A and then Inferno Blast goes off. Both tank A and B take damage, but tank B "covers" the damage (i.e., you see the message) and regens 20% of the damage of AoE as MP.

This can be done without Gallant Coronet. Leave that piece of trash in storage.

I disagree with this sentiment because Gallant Coronet (or +1) + Valor Surcoat + Full Cover Merits = win, both for regaining MP and for allowing a DD or BLM to absolutely RAPE something while you take all the hits. Personal preference I guess, but I LOVE my extended cover time and the fact that I can regain a crazy amount of MP all the time by covering DDs / Cotanks.

I don't have an Aegis, so lolshieldbashmerits, and imo Rampart Recast isn't as good as +20 seconds of Cover, but again, personal opinion.
