No, they don't, but is that really surprising?
No, but goddamn. Nothing is safe anymore.
NOTHING.
Seems a bit early to be raping my fond late-80s nostagia just yet. They weren't done with the late 70's and early 80's yet, or so I thought.
Old news is old. However the dude they have directing made some interesting mini movies online, they had a cool visual style so we'll see.
confirmed rumour: they are going to do the entire manga series and not remake the original anime. They are planning to do two movies. Hopefully they'll do before the major explosion and the time after.
The manga had an enormous cast. I doubt he has that kind of budget. At best he can reintroduce the factional warfare elements and end it the way the manga did.
LOfuckingL that is horrible specially if they actually cast DiCaprio...
It will have to be ignored, when people are wasting their money watching it I will sit at home and read the graphic novels.

Dikembe Mutumbo (sp?) says no. Why God, why?! This needs to not ever touch the live action EVER. Bastards.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but DiCaprio is a pretty good actor
no, just no.
please no.
no.
again: no.
Considering they are "americanizing" this, I could see Leo doing a decent job in the role. But really its going to be nothing like the original material. There's just no way.Originally Posted by SathFenrir

Fuck yeah Leo D!
LOL! For some ungodly reason, I burst out laughing just now. God, Dikembe Mutumbo is so fucking awesome with his finger wag.Originally Posted by Selamis

Are people upset because it's an American cast or are they worried Hollywood will butcher the story? Although details seem to be scarce, seems ok so far until I see otherwise. I happen to think DiCraprio is a really good actor.
On top of it being another japanese > american derivative work, it's just another stone in the 'let's rape everybody's childhood' deathmarch that hollywood has been on since original writing stopped being the driving force behind major film productions so long ago.
Y'know, the whole city-destroying thing was pretty important to the original's setting- Japan, a country that's actually been attacked with massively destructive weapons.
Is it that hard to put together a cast of Asian actors? lol.

That aspect of the original will be lost, much like birthed from an atomic bomb Godzilla. Another example is the movie 'Shall we Dance?' which became a horrible american movie with j.lo. Much of the themes are built around societal expectations and forces of conformity, which are much more pronounced in Japan. It pretty much lost everything interesting about the original in the conversion, but for Akira I'll hold judgment until I actually see it.
I bet it turns all badass and shit but you guys wont see it that way since u niggas will automatically think it sux cuz you think it will never compare to the OG
