If you don't want to get insulted, try to understand simple concepts like the difference between right and privilege before you enter a discussion centered around the difference between the two.

I merely have a problem with the government thinking it knows whats best for people.

Unhealthy food should be outlawed because if people eat to much then when they get fat and start suffering the consequences someone else will be footing the bill. It sounds entirely implausible but I bet 50 years ago no one thought government would be trying to pass legislation that outlawed smoking in your own home, or forcing restaurants to limit their proportions to overweight people.
No, nobody else foots the bill when you sprain your ankle or get fat. You do. But if you die on the road, they're not going to make you pay for your own cleanup. If you die in the hospital, they're not going to bill you.

Not wearing a seatbelt while driving gets you killed so you can't pay your bills. Playing sports just gives you sprains, bruises, or at worst a broken bone leaving you plenty able to take financial responsibility.

Can we make a thread Aurik and Swamp can go each and every time they get into a piss fest in a thread.

Aurik makes Swamp look like a fool each and every time, it would be nice to have a place to archive all of it.

The object of universal health care is to cover people that can't otherwise afford it right? And the government is providing it, thus other tax payers.

I'm pretty sure I do understand. However I don't think this an argument about driving being a privilege versus a right.

Or the government could quit trying to be my mother. Unfortunately, I doubt either is possible.

Whether or not I wear my seat belt has no affect on anyone else.
Tell that to your family and friends when some asshole hits you and you melt your face on the pavement because you were too lazy to use your seatbelt. I'm sure your death will have no effect on them.

Which is why I'm not the only one to use the money argument. Everyone's paying for you, and so you should wear your seatbelt to be curteous to not only me, but everyone else.

Hence, if that's a justification for the law, then under universal health care the government could justify making illegal dangerous activities for people who are using it. They should be curteous to their fellow tax payers.

Good thing we're not under universal healthcare, then, or taxes would be higher to pay for all those reckless people.

    Re: Police Officers & Speedguns

SwampdonkeyPLD if you want to not wear a seatbelt do it the LEGAL way. Buy a car that was made befor 1964. So long as the car came from the factory stock without a seat belt you are not required to put one in.

HOWEVER if you have a child in the car your are REQUIRED to have them in a seatbelt/child seat nomatter what the age of the car.

However the law does say you have to wear seatbelts so you really cant argue againts your ticket unless you want to go so far as to start a lobby group. Dont fight the law change the law.

And I totally agree with your National Healthcare statement. If they want national health care I want to make being overweight, smoker, drinker, fast food eater to be made Illeagal.

Yep good thing, but when we are, then I hope that's not the logic our government was using for the law.

I'd settle for banning the obese from beaches and other public places.

I'd settle for banning the pale and pasty from beaches and other public places. While we're banning people... how about banning people that are too stupid to control their children from breeding more crotchgoblins?

FFS, if the fatties are out on the beach they aren't eating. If anything, be thankful the fatties are there to be sharkbait.

EDIT: Buckle up ffs. Don't make an EMT/ Sheriff lose their dinner. Have had too many friends of the family tell me stories about calls where people didn't wear their seatbelt and ended up with brains on the road. Hell, one of my classmates was in a crash and died... he died because he was launched from the truck he was driving and headbutted a tree. His mom REALLY enjoyed planning his funeral and explaining why daddy wasn't waking up in the pretty box to his two year old little girl.
