Generally, infants don't have the cognitive capacity to understand why they're dying slowly, nor realize Mommy and Daddy could have taken them to a doctor and saved them and decided chanting prayers over their failing body was the better option instead. In that they couldn't realize how badly their parents were failing them, alone are such children fortunate in being spared suffering.
