A real punishment would have been to force them to commit some sort of blasphemy like denying the holy spirit or something, so then they will live the rest of their life thinking they have hell waiting for them and there is nothing they can do to get back in heaven. All while being in jail of course.

I love it when stupid Christians roam the Earth... it reminds me of that one joke I was told:

One day a man was stranded on his roof during a major flood, when a few neighbors came by on a raft. "We're gettin' out of here, climb in and we'll take you to safety!" to which he yelled "No thank you, The Lord will save me!" A police boat happens near and says "Do you need assistance sir? We're here to help!" The man yells back, "No, thank you! The Lord will save me!" The boat leaves. Then a helicopter flies low and says "Sir! Please get in the helicopter the flood waters are rising!" to which he replies "No thank you! God will save me!" The waters cover the man's house soon enough and he drowns in the flood. At the gates of heaven, he approaches God and asks, "Lord, I had faith! Why didn't you save me?" God looked down and replied, "I sent you a raft, I sent you the police, and I sent you a helicopter... what else did you want?"

It's just your typical example of fanatics who think God exists to save humanity from itself... so instead of taking responsibility for themselves and paying attention to obvious signs (Uh, hello there... here's a doctor who can save your daughter... clearly he must be sent from God) they think that a miracle will literally happen where their daughter will magically turn around and be fine. They're no different from people who think if they jump off of a building that God's hand will catch them. Yeesh.

They must have never read the part of the bible that said "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God".

I love how people choose to believe things they assume are in the bible.

The family believes in the Bible, which says healing comes from God, but they have nothing against doctors, she said.

I know of no such reference that says that God is the only source of healing.

Honestly, if the parents are this ignorant to begin with, it makes me question the quality of education that they were giving the children as well. The fact that the father is a former police officer too disturbs me. That means he had training to be able to identify problems, child abuse and neglect.

You have family friends and a grandparent telling you that you should get a doctor for your child and you claim it is a test of faith. I wish one of them had had the balls to call the ambulance and social services BEFORE she stopped breathing. To hell with the parent's wishes and perception that it is a test of faith. The kid was dying and no one stepped up and did anything.
