Everone talks shit about how "Cung Le's unorthodox kicks don't work in MMA" but as far as I'm concerned they work until they stop knocking people the fuck out or breaking their forearms.
i've got one word for you...takedowns.

if frank hadn't been so set on standing with him the whole time and "keeping his word" he could have taken him down a half dozen times. those kicks leave him very open to getting taken down.
You definitely know more about this than I do, but isn't the word on Cung Le is that he has very good standup and very good takedown defense, and is a very good wrestler when he is on the ground? I thought that part of the reason that Frank wanted to stand up (besides proving that he could) was that Cung is a better wrestler than Frank is.

Frank's strategy seemed stupid until halfway through the 3rd round, when he started actually putting some nice shots on Cung and the fight looked like it might turn Frank's way...well, til the whole kick in the face/broken forearm thing.

Le is supposed to be a great wrestler, but he left himself WIDE open for takedowns about 100 times. every time he threw a kick...he was open. the biggest thing is that frank is awesome at finding weird subs and taking advantage of weak ground game...while cung is a great wrestler...those are the guys that leave themselves wide open to subs because they're thinking wrestling instead of jiu jitsu. it took me a long time to think jiu jitsu while i was on the ground and make myself not fall back into wrestling habits so i stopped getting caught in practice.
add to the fact that wrestling isn't the best ground game to when when you are on your back.

Idk why im being asked lol, I don't train formally sadly, was set up to, but I quit my job so there went the extra money to do so. No formal training aside from some boxing and some wrestling, a dash of bjj( and I mean just a dash ). I do work the broke ass farm boy training. I work a 125lb heavy bag 20 minutes a day, focus mitts with my dad, speed bag, wind sprints dragging a dead weight, 200 lb grappling bag for about 20 minutes, nothing of much value really. Hopefully around the end of the semester I will have a new job and can do it. would really like to get some training for kicking/knees and a lot of bjj.

it's cool, I do have my eye on a gym with an MMA program, they have classes at night just need to get the income rolling again. afaik noble is the only that fights professionally or even trains on this board.

My sister is friends with "Fast" Eddy Ellis, who fought on the Bob Sapp/Bob Nortje headlined Strikeforce at the Dome card a month ago. He's a .500 fighter, but he has over 30 pro fights under his belt and he's only 24. His last fight was really entertaining, I wish I could find it online somewhere (anyone know where to get the full Strikeforce at the Dome video? It was on HDNet).

Well, I've been recently thinking about taking a pro fight in August just before I leave for University, but I've never taken an amateur fight on before, so I'm trying to gauge at how much I should be training if I could even start to consider taking an actual fight on. So I figured if I knew how much you two trained (or anyone else on these boards, please post) I could see at how much more I should be doing.

Well for one, MMA is banned in Ontario (where I live :/) so that's why I don't have any amateur fights yet... But in Quebec where TKO is located, and in Calgary, Hardcore Championship Fighting, both have the same rules as the UFC does. I'm not too sure however if we'd be allowed to do knees on the ground or stomps though. I've never payed attention to that since no org allows them anyway.

Kimbo Slice is supposed to be fighting James Thompson on MAy 31st on CBS. Hopefully this'll be thompsons comeback. Phil Baroni, Ninja Rua, Robbie Lawler, and Gina Carano on 1 card on primetime network tv. pretty good imo.

I predict thompson getting ko'd quick, he can't really take a punch it seems.

    Re: UFN 13

well, party broke right after i wrote that...i totally blame you for jinxing it. therefore you owe me exp on pld.^^ i expect your server transfer and invite within the week.

my background is wrestling and jiu jitsu. i trained some muay thai, western boxing, and moo duk kwan as well. i fight at 170, normally weigh around 185-190ish. my cut isn't so hard really. i start training for a fight 6 weeks out...i don't "really" train for an opponent. i do watch tape (why do we still say tape btw? nobody even sells vcr's anymore, let alone watch tapes.) and look for flaws/habits. i always assume that they've gotten the same info and gotten better though. i will sometimes bring in a fighter that's similar build/style to them and spar...but that just depends on what's available.

i train 6 days a week. my workouts change each week so my body can't get used to anything. i wake up at 6 every morning and do incline/recline situps, 200 each. i do 30 minutes of 30/60's (sprint 30 seconds, jog 60 seconds) around my neighborhood. then i shower, go to work. i get off work at 5 and come home and train w/e the days training is. on boxing days i have a boxing coach and two sparring partners, on wrestling days i have a wrestling coach and 3 sparring partners, on jiu jitsu day i have a 2 sparring partners and 2 people i am
training as i train. (helps me keep on point with my jits since i am my own coach). i train muay thai with my boxing coach once a week and straight western boxing once a week. i only train greco wrestling as it's my background and i feel that it is much more useful than freestyle. i also mix in my own mix of judo and mongolian wrestling.

mon/thurs- i do boxing/muay thai. work arms/shoulders/chest as well. i do mostly plyometric exercises with some kettlebell and freeweight work as well. sledgehammer work i do once a week because i can't lift my arms afterwards. lol

    tues/fri- wrestling days. i do back/core/neck.

    wed/sat- jiu jitsu days. i do legs/hips.

sun- i sit on my lazy ass and eat a lot. >.>

i ease off the lifting and full contact sparring the last week. i don't have to diet much to lose my weight, i'm usually sitting at 180 the last week and i cut the last 5-10 in a sauna suit on a bike the night before weigh ins. i bring a vanilla milkshake and pedialite to the weigh ins and rehydrate/put weight back on. before the fight i'm usually back at 180...i've been as high as 190 though. i eat pretty much normal leading in because i cut so many calories per day that i don't have to worry about fluctuation. i don't ever drink soda...i drink a gallon of water a day...occasionally sweet tea with dinner. (i AM in alabama) if there's anything else you wanna know...or anything i left out, let me know.

Noble when you do the sauna work the night before is it at just a regular fitness place or a mma place that has a sauna. Just wondering if you look like a weirdo on a bike in a sauna with a bunch of regular people around.

he said sauna suit on a bike, it's a vinyl suit, but I've seen many people put a bike in a sauna.

you can get them at walmart or sporting good stores for cheap, useful for blasting off quick water weight, I'm iffy about using mine for long periods of time.

so why isn't Ninja with his brother in ufc? As for this Fight Night I'm rooting for Creepy Joe lauzon. This card is nice and stacked and it's kinda a pain to pick fighters, hopefully Gray Maynard does another double KO slam.
