I watched the animu, never played the game (well, I did play the 3D beat-em up game, but I'm sure that's not the one you're talking about)Originally Posted by Zilong

It's a TRPG with fairly simple system, but on higher difficulty, it become really ridiculous since the enemy units are overpowered compared to your less active unit, and the AI is just set to kill your one and only healer or your main character (probably the weakest main character on RPGs I've played)
Indalecio is indeed the hardest boss you have to fight in SO2 without his limiter. Actually, he's not that bad if you're max level with the best equipment and even a vague knowledge of the game. Even easier if you remember to take off Practice so you don't gimp your stats 30%...Originally Posted by Zilong
Iselia Queen is hard, but doesn't require much effort once you lock her into place.
I remember the Chess fight from Shining Force 2 being impossible when I first played it, now it's not so bad at all. Or the Odd Eye fight with the disappearing floor.
Hmmm, I should emu that game up here at work.
Any boss in Star Ocean 2 is an absolute cake walk if you use the trick to make Chisato invincible (Bloody Armor + Wierd Slayer, with Opera's Healing Star Skill as backup). This can be simplified even further if you give her an Algol, since the one shot kill from it will even work on Indalecio or Iselia Queen. Of course, that's so undeniably cheap it's just mean. Aside from that, the difficult of a boss basically comes down to if they're immune to the Eternal Sphere's star spray or not.
That chess battle kicked my ass too. Lashiec in the air fortress in Phantasy Star IV was tough.
Heh, it's a Hentai Game. Anywho...Originally Posted by Charismatic

I kept screwing up my formation and characters would start dying. I actually found the game easier when I played it on the Hard settings. The final boss battle was just roflz, I had characters dying but... I never felt like I was in any condition to lose.
Touka is hilariously broken if you level her stats properly. Soooo cheap to raise her attack. By the end of the game she can easily one shot any enemy in the game who isn't of the Boss type.
But yeah, everyone should play it. It's a fun and pretty easy Tactical RPG that is quite different as a result of being a fusion with an Ero game. The story is above average and overall it's fun if you don't mind reading a lot and can tolerate Hentai scenes. (Which are very very short... like polar opposite to the twenty minute description of Rin being broken in by Shiro in Fate/Stay Night).
Can download the patch at http://mirrormoon.org/
I'd reccomend playing through Fate/Stay Night to anyone also. They have 2/3 Story Branches translated (Fate & Unlimited Bladeworks. Heaven's Feel still needs to be translated).
/derail over.
Too bad you still have to import the actual discs and hope they install on English Windows, because Mirrormoon doesn't believe in piracy.
edit: My mistake. This was based on my experience with their Melty Blood translation that didn't work without having the physical CD.
Ontopic: Baal Avatar at the very end of SMT3 killed me even though I had Masakados, just because I was too lazy to go buy a new party that was immune to the fly-transformation move.
Their installer is made of glory and win. It actually installs off the CD. If my memory serves me right I installed the game right after formatting and reinstalling. I had yet to install Japanese language support. It worked... fine-Originally Posted by Charla
There was stuff immune to the fly transformation move? Baal Avatar was the only boss in the game that used it if I remember correctly. Unless an enemy in one of the extra areas used it.
Oh god, typing Utawarerumono on isohunt is so fucking hard.Originally Posted by Charla
I don't know, maybe I was just doing it wrong, but the whole terrain setup basically create at least 2 blockade, and you'd have to break through them within one round if you want to get to derihourai before the enemy units murder him on the higher difficulty...which usually involves going through 2-3 failure just to get enough stamina for touka/hakuoro to open up the way...since karura's tech for her special takes too much points. He's Karura's brother right? Final boss was kinda lulz, it's basically he murders your party that isn't Touka/Karura/Oboro/whoever you take on most of the missions, and the survivors lives off by getting a level up full recovery every time you hit the boss.
I personally liked karura a lot more since her retarded attack just make short works of every unit, but yeah touka has the whole tech series capped, which allow you to just focus on attack and defense, which is less point consuming. Also on higher difficulty, the extra points caps karura's attack much earlier, leaving her retardedly overpriced defense stats as your only option, so assuming that cap is reached, touka just survives a lot better than she does, but on normal and first 2 hards, it's just fucking awesome having karura murdering the enemy unit.Touka is hilariously broken if you level her stats properly. Soooo cheap to raise her attack. By the end of the game she can easily one shot any enemy in the game who isn't of the Boss type.
Kinda wish oboro had a vagina though, since his stat growth is easily the best in the game, but is overshadowed by karura and touka just because he doesn't get the huge female PC stat boost when hakuoro is near :/ (even though he'd mount hakuoro like any of them given the chance)
Don't get me started on type moon games' h-scene. I don't believe Kinoko Nasu has ever been involved in the act of sexual intercourse...(Which are very very short... like polar opposite to the twenty minute description of Rin being broken in by Shiro in Fate/Stay Night).
No, it was just her. It's considered a curse attack though (renamed to magic in the English version), so anything with curse immunity will ignore it.Originally Posted by Vinen
@Zilong: Sorry, I was just going off my previous experience with a Mirrormoon translation. They apparently did Utawarerumono and most other projects differently.
Mirror Moon has NEVER prevented you from using a ISO, etc copy of the game.
Previously, at least with Tsukihime and the Fate arc of Fate/Stay Night the translation was done post install.
Now, they went out of there way to make it so you can install the game without mucking with your language settings... etc and also included the translation in that.
Argus in FFT for sure, as well as Velius. I think I got those names right, they're the final battles for Chapters 1 and 2 respectively.
Algus.
Motherfucker was easy as pie though.
Velius wasn't bad either imo, but the 1 on 1 with Wiegraf was where I had problems.
Then if you have slow characters with high defense the battle on the roof is bad too because they'll kill Rafa before you get a turn!
The first time I played through FFT Velius left me in a puddle but every time since I've come into the fight more prepared and ready to break him in half. Particularly in Lion Wars with my dark knight.

Other than with Melty Blood apparently. Sorry, I guess that experience just gave me the wrong impression of what they were trying to accomplish. I'll edit the other posts.
Clearly you have never used Daemontool or any other CD/DVD emulation programs before.
Clearly
I'll agree with Miguel in Chrono Chross - he came outta left field with Holy Dragon Sword which was beyond overpowered for the point in the game you encounter him. Hes totally a boss among wimps for that point in the game.
Dario was a tossup, hes hard if you dont know what to do - his constant assault on Riddel (someone i never used) made the fight annoying and mostly defensive until you figure out how to deal with him. Another 'surprise!' kinda boss battle in terms of hard.
Riovanes Castle Velius/Belias is just one of those 'wtfisthis' boss battles. First if you didnt level Ramza in a certain way your fucked, Wiegraf can be/was a bitch if you have no idea what you are getting into, Holy Sword spellset 4tL. Then after that fact, the guy blows up and turns into a Cyclops/Titan spamming whore of destruction with his Ultima Demon pals makes the fights easily one of the hardest battles in an RPG if you dont know whats around the corner. Look at Cuchulainn and then look at Belias/Velius - worlds apart.
The rooftop fight is really cheesy, its more the fact Rafas AI is completely and utter stupid, another place where you can stuck simply for not levelling the 'correct' way/overleveling.
I found Algus to be pretty cake, once you neutralize the BLMs around him and keep Delita alive (he loves targeting him anyways) he will just bash on Delita and you can surround/rush him.
Zodiark was kinda meh, Darkja is really cheap but hes pretty weak - getting around his infinite physical paling/reflect takes a little innovation, i could see it being hard if you dont have a plan thought out. Luckily i had me some pierce reflect rings and made Scathe do the work for me.
Uncapped Indalecio was kinda crazy, that takes me back to SO2.... good times, good times.
Baten Kaitos: Origins, Holoholo Bird, Past Guillo, and the final boss for some reason. I just seemed to have difficulties in that game...
