Hmmm i dunno, getting genji isnt too hard if you use math skill to slow elmdor and just keep breaking his speed until he's practically stopped.

start with his shield, then everything else is fairly easy to steal, especially if you keep yelling at your THF.
Well I guess it won't be so hard next time I play through the game.

    Re: Hardest Storyline Battles.

The hardest I remember was the stupid goat in FFT, Velius or whatever, if you didn't know about him to prepare ahead of time. I had to set up Auto Potion and throw away all my normal Potions and switch back to Squire before I wanted to and set up all this other crap. And it was still fucking hard if you didn't spam Yell or Scream. It was so incredibly random.

Recently, it was that group of soldiers in Lost Odyssey right before Cooke and then Mack join you. I didn't think I was underleveled or anything because I had absolutely no problems before that...but the fuckers started spamming Rush. One shotted Jansen at full HP and usually 2 shotted everyone else or got them into critical. I had to retry several times and finally won when they DIDN'T spam Rush for once, was pretty effin annoying since they looked like common soliders (and were in the story...)

Xenogears - The first time you fight Ramzus as Bart. I can't remember how many tries it took me to beat him... lol

Chrono Cross - Most of you have already said this and I agree... Miguel was such an asshole.

Final Fantasy VI - During my first play through the dude at the top of the Magic Tower gave me a lot of problems.

Final Fantasy VII - Those stupid dragons in the Temple of the Ancients. Idk why but yeah...

Final Fantasy VIII - The scorpion robot on the bridge, only cause I was stubborn and wanted the 50AP for defeating it.

Xenosaga - Boss inside the KOS-MOS Encephellon. After the cutscene in the church.

Thats all I can come up with at the moment..

    Edit: Oops necro. ><

Just remembered an annoying one. Three sisters in FFIV. Solution was simple , but when it's your first rpg, they can be a pain in the ass. Had to dispel reflect or nuke yourself to kill them if your party was low level.

Yeah... same goes for the three orbs at the top of the Giant of Bab-il.

A lot of the later Breath of Fire 1 bosses were hard if you didn't resort to transformations.

Yeah..and we had the gimped version of the game too. Oh well..good memories.

Question about BoF1's boss. Did they had more hp than their hp bar would show you? Or they were just dying randomly?

    Re: Hardest Storyline Battles.

When you got a boss's HP bar down to zero the first time, it'd give you some message like "RugaX got up." and then you wouldn't be able to see how much more HP they had left, but it wasn't random, so if you did more damage they would die faster.

You know, I still haven't played that.
I'll probably end up waiting until there's good PS2 emulators out, I've already decided (due to how pissed off I was about XS2) that I'm never paying for XS3.

Not that I won't play it, I just won't pay a dime for it, at least not until Namco refunds my money for XS2, which won't happen.

Now that I think about it, he gave me some trouble, too. Though, my XS3 "go to group" would probably be considered light on damage since I often used Shion, KOS-MOS, and Momo for boss fights. Jin usually replaced Shion for random encounters.

What comes to mind first is Lady Yunalesca from FFX. God I hated that battle so much.

Some of the later Seymour battles and Lady Yunalesca were hard if you didn't know to use Zombieproof/Deathproof first time around.

    Re: Hardest Storyline Battles.

The fight with Seymour up on Mt. Gagazet was hard as hell the first time I did it... no guide, no strategy, no nothing. He absolutely raped my party until I realized I might as well protect them from that damn zombie effect.

Same thing with Yunalesca... it was pretty hard the first couple of times, but after you take a few rounds learning the fight it gets considerably easier.

That dragon that protects Bevelle was pretty annoying too the first couple of times (I don't even know how I remember all of this, I haven't played FFX for like 6 years.)

    Re: Hardest Storyline Battles.

One of the hardest battles for me was back in BoF I. It was the final boss fight in the Giant Golem thing that took you across the river to the next areas. Once you got the boss's health bar down to that little sliver he kept doing this breath attack to all my party members every turn. It was really rough keeping my people alive and doing damage at the same time.

All the boss fights after that were pretty easy due to the Adult and subsequent dragon forms, as well as the fusions the other characters could do.

The boss in the cave where you rescue Kaim and Sara in Lost Odyssey has potential to be really hard too if you don't use Mack very often. A boss with permanent reflect with a party composed of 3/4 casters is kinda cheap. It doesn't help with how hard the random encounters are in that cave either, so leveling up Mack is very tedious and difficult.

Fighting to actually beat Remiel/Kratos before Yggdrassil destroys you in Tales of Symphonia -- My first playthrough, I was playing on mania... Protip: Don't fucking play mania your first game through, I kept restarting when Kratos kicked my ass, thinking I HAD TO BEAT HIM....then, 10 tries later, I finally won
