soriano doesn't have to be a prototypical lead-off hitter to be successful in that lineup slot, you got the playoffs last year with him batting leadoff, and carried the team through two long stretches of games as well

Gotta love the Rockies getting a mulligan with a 5-1 deficit being wiped out by rain, then winning 2-1 from a bases loaded walk on the replay. =)
Totally. Sort of funny, really.Originally Posted by Rigor

I've been liking the run production out of us the past two games, too bad we didn't take advantage of that first game and Tim Hudson's great outing.
To say that Ryan Theriot flourishes at anything besides taking up a spot in the lineup is an absurd falsehood and I will not stand for it. Having Soriano anywhere but first is ridiculous, he hits best there, when he got moved around last year he was put in a terrible slump. Also, the argument that his power is wasted with no one in front of him has several flaws. 1. You pitch differently when someone is already on base. 2. A lead off homerun is a great start, moral and scoring wise. 3. Ryan Theriot's OBP is fucking terrible for a lead off hitter, and thats just one less out for Soriano to use to get around the bases with if he does get on.Originally Posted by Rhinox
Stay away from a lineup card with the attitude that Ryan Theriot is worth a damn.
Braves fan in Philly? o.o;Originally Posted by Penthesilea
But yeah. Hudson had a lot of those problems last year where he'd have an amazing outing, but we'd be going up against an equally good pitcher that shuts our offense down. The 8th inning explosion yesterday with Teixeira/Escobar's homeruns was real nice. They're both on my fantasy team, so :3
Today we get to see Hampton go 2 IP and then pop his hammy too and lose him for the entire year. Hey, 2 innings at least, right!? Then of course Friday, Smoltzy gets to come back to the rotation and go against Santana and the Mets. Great welcome back party.
Speaking of Philly, it seems thus far they are upholding their annual tradition of sucking ass in April. Getting 1 hit by the legendary Tim Redding, I'm so ashamed right now.
I heard about this. Something must've been in the Phillies gatorade, but it's 2-3 games into the year, no need to worry, haha.Originally Posted by Soarian
It's hard to feel optimistic as a Blue Jays fan when you're in the same division as the Red Sox and Yankees but the Jays were able to get 2nd in the division two seasons ago. It's reasonable for them to get 2nd and win the wild card as long as the players remain healthy.
Only probably with that is you have to basically get 93+ wins as the Indians and Tigers (assuming they fix their pitching issues) will probably get 95+ wins for their division/wild card.Originally Posted by Jayhawk
I'm not too worried about the Tigers until they fix those pitching issues.
I don't see the wild card coming out of the AL East this year, despite calling the opposite a few weeks ago in another thread. The Orioles are the only terrbile team in the division this year. I wouldn't be surprised if a team takes the AL East crown with 90-92 wins this year.Originally Posted by Akiyama
Say what you want but you Typically you want someone that doesnt Stike out much in the 2 hole. You are arguing with yourself i never suggested Ryan be our Leadoff guy just stating he is an awesome 2 hole hitter. 1. Soriano is a Power hitter but he strikes out way too much to be a leadoff hitter. 2. Its great when he does have a leadoff homer but i much rather see someone who can consistently get on base to set up for Lee/aramis/Soriano/Fukudome. Make any excuse you want but soriano's OBP is just terrible. 3. Again you are arguing with yourself. a Number 2 hitter is meant to advance the leadoff runner via Bunt/hitandrun and set the table for the heart of the order.Originally Posted by Komm Suesser Tod
Learn some basic Baseball Strategy before filling out your lineup card this isnt MLB 2k8 where you fill your lineup with pure powerhitters the Rl game just doesnt work that way.
Sorry. Had to fix this. Problem* >< I hate making typos so much.Originally Posted by Viq
Anyway, I agree, but I've been saying it since before the season started. The Indians and Tigers (especially when they get Curtis Granderson back) will be up for the AL Central/Wild Card crown. Indians pitching is just too damn good with their 1/2 punch, and the Tigers offense is strong once they get all their pieces back.
Heck, the Red Sox are sort of worrying me with their pitching, but I don't think it's as big of a problem as the Tigers. The Yankees are sort of iffy with their pitching as well, but again.. not as much as the Tigers. The Tigers are going to have to have their offense carry them this year as I think Verlander is truly their only scary pitcher.
I still dont even think he fully recovered from that injury at the all star game in Fenway. Hell, that was in '97 wasnt it?Originally Posted by Akiyama

I'm going to tonight's PawSox game, which will be Bartolo Colon's first non-exhibition start of the year. He has looked good this spring, and might be a fantastic insurance policy for the back end of the Sox rotation.Originally Posted by Akiyama
