I absolutely hated working at the grocery store. People's stupidity really shines there. How fucking hard is it to read the scanner thing for your credit card? It says "credit" or "debit". No, I don't know if that is buy get one free, I don't know every goddamn sale in this stupid place, bite me. Yes, I am bored. Thanks for letting me know that I am bored, nothing you do is going to make me any less bored. Yes, you have to pay me, this is what this store is for, this is why you have money, this is the purpose of money, you are not funny.Originally Posted by Kobb
When I was in college I worked part time at a high end custom stereo store. It was the best part time job ever. I got to go to peoples houses to deliver and install systems and I got to set up really nice stuff in the store and watch tv and movies.
Another part time job I had that I really enjoyed was working at a construction yard, I did plumbing, electrical and mechanics work, it got me outside and I was in good shape.
When they moved me to the rotisserie dept, I got to have some nice laughs. Watching old people fight over the last packages of rotisserie chicken and turkey breasts made it worthwhile. 60+ year olds pushing and cursing at one another for the god like chickens, according to them. Gotta love FloridaOriginally Posted by Tricen

Had a job working the deli for a supermarket. Probably the worst job ever. Management constantly concerned about time. Co-workers were pretty lax but the manager for our department definitely rolled around in the sand before coming to work. The customers for this kinda work just seem to be assholes in general or at least polar opposites (Sometimes very nice and others just dicks).
Other job was at a pool supply store as an assistant manager. Probably the best job ever. Had to order chemicals and parts for people (store sold toys for the pools too though). Manager was cool although a lazy asshole (called in sick a lot). Only redeeming factor was he would smoke us out at the end of the day. Usually on days we pushed a certain % over last years total sales.
Honestly if you can land an assistant managers position, go for it.
Used to work as a cashier in a grocery shop, and after awhile when my drawer was always perfect(give or take 10 cents lol) the manager had the bookkeeper train me to do the books too. It was a nice learning experience, especially if you like to handle thousands of dollars each day, got to see how business' kept track of their dough. Eventually I did alot of other stuff there, like stock the shelves, package the meat, run the outside shop(fun). They started pushing my hours up more and more from 10/week to almost 40/week and it got to be too much for me.
Just make sure you don't get strung out doing what you choose and keep it part-time if that is what you are looking for.
Lmao, I loved seeing that when I worked at Fresh Market. Old people are funny as shit, the women absolutely suck at pushing their carts too. The Wine stand always seemed to get knocked down daily.Originally Posted by Kobb
All my jobs have been PT due to school (last years of HS and now college). Worked in a grocery store, it sucked. Did maintenance at a truck stop, was ok except for cleaning the showers. Worked at Ruby Tuesdays for 3 years wasn't bad. I start a new job at a sporting goods store as a janitor. I doubt it will be difficult.![]()

When I was little I had a paper route, I hated delivery flyers to every other house. So I just stashed them anyplace I could find i.e under decks, in garbage bins, back alleys etcc. got boring after awhile though since people stopped paying and I had to hastle them alot.
One time this bitch didnt pay for like 3 weeks straight so I just threw the paper @ their house and it'd explode everywhereNeedless to say they had the money waiting next time I came around
I'd suggest cd store
work at a place that's pretty straight forward, pretty chill, meet people, talk about music and get paid to do it
used cd stores are nice too, plus getting a discount on music never hurts, and ordering rare imports at wholesale is hot
a friend of a friend is a dentist of all things, and he still works every saturday at HMV cuz he loves it
I worked at a Toys R Us for a year -- If you can get yourself on the truck consistently, it's a fantastic job. Toys R Us hired me for *$3/hr* over minimum wage because I spoke spanish also (I was the only non-mexican in the store who spoke fluent spanish), so if you live in a highly hispanic area, and speak spanish, make sure you note that on *every* resume. It can often get you quite a bit more money, if the manager needs it. Working truck 5 days a week was actually a lot of fun too -- It was just me and 3 other high school guys, listening to whatever music we wanted, being as slow as we wanted. As long as we got our trucks done before closing, they didn't give a shit about how slowly, or what else we did. Pulling in 9.25/hr for that was really fuckin nice.
If you dont mind lifting heavy loads a good job is Furniture delivery. The place I filled in at in college was a pretty high end store. You got paid commision so the more they sold the more you made. I worked on the weekends from 12-6ish. I could easily pull in $500 on a good weakend and on the off weekend I would get more around $200. And then most customers would tip on top of that. Another perk was most costomers were buying new to replace 3 year old furniture. After 6 months I had outfited every one of my friends houses with funiture.
Tend bar. Highly social, good pay, weekend hours. And it gets you laid. What more could you ask for in a job?
Don't work in retail.
I'm going to assume then that you're 21, and based on the other things you've said, I would strongly recommend taking bartending classes and finding a place you can work some weeknights and stuff where you don't have to deal with a ton of really fucked up people. That or like in the bar part of a nice restaurant.Originally Posted by Khamsin

i worked for a grocery store for 5 years. did nearly everything, Cashier, Bagger, Cust. Service, Grocery stock, Produce Stock, Freezer stock, Dairy stock, Bakery, & Deli. first couple years were alright, lots of cute girls working so it was easy on the eyes, but after that it was just hell. finally left after some BS, was accused for stealing food. i fucking paid for everything there. didn't have any proof, but i still got bounced.
currently working retail and somewhat liking it. I'm a cashier, shift advisor (its like a manager), & i manage the books for the location i work at. i'm also their person to do all their heavy lifting & such and on-site tech support. things are going well, so far. no drama & my co-workers are enjoyable people.
I work at Tim Horton's, but I don't deal with customers often (I work in the back, making the stock room nice and all, as well as outside where I have full rights to ignore people). The few times I do deal with customers, it's usually boring, always "double double" this and "bag in the tea" that, it really doesn't pass the time well =/
I think the most fulfilling part-time/seasonal job I've had is doing hardscaping, building walkways, patios, retaining walls. 1) labor outside = makes you feel good about yourself not being crammed up and all that 2) gives you a sense of what you want to do whenever you become a homeowner and how to do it 3) makes you appreciate those PC/desk jobs
