    Banish Damage Calculations (Need help!)

    I plan on doing tests /w Slow and MND. The biggest problem I face is that I need to know the exact MND of the target, or I won't be able to get accurate data. I had planned on using Banish 1 to determine the target's MND. Unfortantly I was unable to get any data on the Base Damage(V) value. I tried running some tests on my own, but I was unable to come up a concrete answer. Maybe someone can help me out /w this:

    I was casting on the bees outside Gustaberg. The damage was static, the bees do not vary in level or MND. I didn't use BLM or RDM main or sj, and used no staff. No MAB was used.

    31 Damage - 23 MND
    32 Damage - 24 MND
    33 Damage - 25 MND


    55 Damage - 64 MND
    58 Damage - 70 MND
    63 Damage - 80 MND

    The first three indicate that dINT > 0, and before the inflection point. While the latter are dINT > 0 and after the inflection point. I was able to reach 64 Damage on Banish(might be the capped D value), which shows me that 63 is not the capped D value.

    Can anyone help me figure out what the V value is =x. Or at least some way to figure out the MND?

    Those bees are my favorite magic test subjects, too. I used to know their MND from testing BLU stuff like Convergence with Mind Blast but now I don't recall and I can't find it written down anywhere. Give me a few minutes.

    Edit: Okay it would seem they have 6 MND. I had 58 MND, meaning V(<x>) for Mind Blast was:
    floor(floor(floor(58*.3)*.83)*531/256) = 188
    Damage was 266 meaning that floor(1.5(58-x) + 188) = 266 solves for X = 6

    To verify that I didn't make any mistakes calculating V for Mind Blast, I had a RDM friend come out and cast Shock on one before I cast it, which would bring it to 1 MND. floor(1.5(58-1) + 188) = 273, which is what we got.

    That means that for Banish, V = 14.

    Edit2: North Gustaberg Huge Hornets and BLU/NIN no MAB no staff, windsday etc. in case you want to make sure I didn't overlook any outside factors.

    Ahh thanks~ I figured out a way to run my own tests. I used Absorb-MND and realized that the MND didn't go below 0 or 1. Your numbers are more precise though =). Thank you~

    Since I have your attention I'd like to ask you a quick question on when dMND goes above the inflection point. It follows the equation: V + (const + (dMND-const)*1/2)

    Are both constants the same for each spell? And I assume the constant changes per spell (so the constant for Banish is the not the same as Banish II, etc...)

    I think what I wrote just now was wrong if you saw it. I'm just going to work this out here so bear with me. If the base damage of a spell, f(x), with dINT/dMND/dCHR = x on and on the interval between 0 and the inflection point is described by f(x) = Mx + V, then after the inflection point, i, and until the cap, the function f(x) is M/2(x-i) + f(i), so written as above it should be M/2(x-i) + Mi + V, so the constants will only be the same in the event that M = 1 (as is the case with banish I, but not with every spell).

    And Banish I and II should have different inflection points.
