Wowww GTA IV edited for Australia

Rockstar has produced an edited version of Grand Theft Auto IV for Australia in order to obtain an MA15+ rating.

The Office of Film and Literature Classification awarded the game an MA15+ rating on December 11 last year, advising consumers that the game contains "strong violence, strong coarse language, drug and sexual references".

A Rockstar spokesperson confirmed to Screen Play yesterday that the company had produced a special version of GTA IV to comply with the Australian classification system, which does not currently contain an R18+ rating, but declined to reveal what material had been cut.

In 2001, thousands of copies of GTA III were sold before the game was rated and refused classification because players could pick-up prostitutes. An edited version was later released.

2002's Gran Theft Auto: Vice City was also edited for Australian audiences.

In 2005, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has its original MA15+ rating overturned and the game pulled from retail shelves after it was revealed game discs contained a hidden "Hot Coffee" sex mini-game. An edited version rated MA15+ was soon back on sale.

Why even release the game if you're going to take it and chop it up?

We got F'd over so many times with games getting chopped up before being sent here. What's annoying is there is an R rating for movies (R = 18+) but they haven't / don't give games R ratings for some retarded reason.

This is why I love piracy.

If you have a PS3 and you want the REAL version you can import it since all games on PS3 are region free.

Even within the US, it's amazing that Leisure Suit Larry ever made it onto store shelves back in it's day.

One thing I've wondered, though, is that since most of these censorship issues within the US are caused by our parent's and grandparent's generation throwing a fuss about not wanting their child to see certain things... maybe once our generation hits that range, we can overturn it and make a society that demands obscene material on store shelves and cable television. In another few decades, we'll be the ones throwing fits that politicians will be trying to please.

By then, there will be a whole new level of obscene and we will most likely hate it.

    Truth.

The new levels of obscene already exist, it's just a matter of who's the first to make the "Dog Fucking" music album or the "Corpse Eating" reality game show for our grandkids to enjoy.

The better statement would have been: Hard to believe there's another white-run country who censors harder then the US.

Because posting a picture of the Middle East is very deserving of the classic "duh" when it comes to censorship.

It would also depend on which boundaries of obscenity you are crossing. Much of Europe is far more tolerant of, say, nudity, but draws a pretty harsh line on violence. In Germany you're forbidden from being a neo-nazi in public.

Well, we have the Christian right dictating moral and ethical manifestos like it's ordained from a higher power over here in the US. Over there, in Germany, you have the existential angst of a country still paranoid to the point of near-tyrannical crackdowns on anything that has a shoestring's connection to their("What? That never happened! All the Jews were on vacation!") background of 60 years departed.

    What's your country's hang-up?

It's kind of funny if you examine the political interrelations of world nations over time, how some try to take over the world one year and are everyone's ally the next.
