Kirin finally killed by Milkman

If he claims he's on a server where people bot Cerberus for that Algol, or even vigorously camp Cerberus before it pops, I'd love to know what server this is.

Server is Siren: 3-5 linkshells have active cerberus mules, that camp him from open of his window until he pops. Linkshells often claim on low number and assemble within minutes, so unless a "casual" linkshell is willing to camp it for it's full window. Siren would be pretty hard to get a cerberus.

2-3 of those linkshells if they feel threatened another LS will camp it, they'll go out and camp it themselves, if cerb is pushing the last 2-3 hours of his window, usually full hold parties or even a full ally from 2-3 linkshells will be out there.

I know it can get bad but to have an even valid claim that botting is an issue (like the guy does on his blog saying he cannot get Algol due to bots), people would have to constantly be out there claiming it before it even goes yellow (the ultra fun "popped purple"). Anything less than that is still lame, but not something you can blame on bots - maybe overcamping. My point wasn't that people don't still actively camp Cerb on some servers, it was just that I don't think Cerb is a very widely contested mob to the point where botting is a possible issue.

This happens on Hades for Tiamat, Khim, and Cerberus for most of the pops.

Also: Am I the only one who noticed he got a suppanomimi a week before their first Kirin, yet he had homam? I read the whole thread but honestly, I think that is right up there with 2008 Kirin.

Yes, you read that correctly but honestly how hard is it to get people together for lolOmega vs a Divine Might run? (if you have a horrible work schedule and can only play at certain times). The only reason I have mine done is I took a day off of work last year to be able to do it with people. Thats also one of his Alt's, if I recall correctly his main character already cleared DM sometime in the past. If we're going to turn this into a thread bitching about people who get gear they don't deserve I'm certain there are better stories out there than someone with Homam on a character that has THF leveled.

Um, I wasn't making a jab at his Homam, my only melee job is THF and I have homam pieces? I was trying to make the sentence flow into the next sentence where I agree with the rest of the thread with the whole Kirin 2008 thing. Not that it really matters.

anyway, when i first started FFXI in early 2004, milky's very low lvl articles were one of the things i read. i found him amusing, and FFXI at the time sounded incredible.

as at least one poster above pointed out, a vast majority of his readers have no idea how behind the curve he is (by BG standards, mind you), so who cares?

that being said.

he's gotta expect to get his arse flamed to hell and back on these forums for it... where the average player is miles above most new-to-endgame ppl. maybe he doesn't care, maybe he does (as evinced by his previous attitude on here) but yeah, the shit is coming anyway. hopefully he realizes this and continues not to come here and try to defend his statements, because the lulz will cripple us.

re: the negative comments about endgame. you have to keep in mind that he's not necessarily acting as an advocate for the game in the first place, which is what most people, i think, wish he was doing what with subscriptions dwindling slightly and the crashed economy.

The point, Kimiko, if you can open your mind to the opinions of others instead of using your epic tunnel vision is that he is a published journalist writing about a game we all play. As such, journalistic integrity demands (yes, demands!) that he have working knowledge of the subject matter he writes about. He clearly does not, and has let FFXI fall by the wayside. As such, since the game has passed him by, he should discontinue writing about it. At this point all he is doing is lending credence to the notion that this game is difficult and too time-intensive to accomplish anything. The reality is exactly the opposite with the exception of a few extremely rare pieces of equipment.

What brings the anger out is his repeated editorializing on subjects he knows likely nothing about with respect not only to the endgame in FFXI (Kings, Wyrms, etc.) but endgame players. His repeated attacks with no evidence and reason other than the fact that he got butthurt because someone called him out on being a no talent fuckstick make him out to be just a little child who isn't willing or isn't good enough to get what he wants on his own, so he chooses the easy way out. He writes his little blog about things that aren't important, demeaning the accomplishments of others by calling them names, all the while being the one whose lack of relative skill and general knowledge are posted publicly, on blogs or in mags, contributing to the idea that he does know what he's talking about, as he is a journalist.

In other words, whatadouche. Fuck you Milkman.

First off, thank you for least making the effort to make a valid argument. While I completely disagree with it and believe that even respected journalists have the right to their own personal view of things. Sure he may well be "behind the times" as you have suggested, is their anything wrong with that? No, some of us do play this game for the simple enjoyment of it rather than consider a race for the highest pinnacles one can achieve. Personally, as a blog writer myself, I draw that fine distinction between journalistic fact & personal opinion. Can people be swayed by personal opinion, sure they can. I'm just saying that opinion should be kept as that... opinion. If you want to come out and blast Milkman for saying what he thinks, fine, go right ahead. Me personally, I defend what he writes out of both my loyalty to the shell & the friendships that have come through the years, and I will continue to do so till the last.

You are completely missing the point over and over and over again. Nobody here is taking issue with Milkman's promulgation of his own opinion. I think you'll find that (most) everyone isn't so retarded as to believe that journalists do not let their individuals biases and tastes influence their writing. The issue is that Milkman is one of a minuscule number of people (perhaps the only one at this point?) who has any sort of journalistic interaction with non FFXI Players. He has the opportunity to recruit and nurture the FFXI playerbase by portraying it accurately, faithfully, and dutifully. Instead, he uses his sorry excuse of a legitimized livejournal to disseminate prejudices engendered by his own incompetency which in turn abhorrently and tragically misrepresent FFXI and the FFXI experience. He does the entire FFXI community a disservice by using a position (incomprehensibly, seriously, this guy is neither a good journalist nor a competent writer) bequeathed to him to malign everything that FFXI is about not because he is espousing his own opinion, but because he is an idiot and does not know a single thing that he is talking about.

Oh, now that i've taken the time to read the entire thread I'll say something to the only part that has anything really to do with me.

At least it's good to know there's no assholes in your LS... It's good you are "that" smaller LS which avoids all drama, such as people like Dakk who play as a girl for years and con e-bf after e-bf before being exposed..

First of all Raineer, there were 2 e-bf. The first I never took anything from, and in fact bought him a few things. The second who of which I'm still great friends with did help with a few AH bought crafted items, which I repayed by using my own gil on his cross counters and his shura togi, back when those things actually cost something.
Don't talk about something you don't know anything about other then rumors thrown around, some of which may be true others, not so much.
If you knew me what-so-ever you would know differently.
But hey, people spread rumors, fact or fiction it always makes for some fun drama.
