@ Elph: I'm currently leveling NIN as well, I highly suggest this Katana for offhand use, coupled with a BRD or COR it will also help with parry skill ups greatly.

I'd say get smart grenade til 63 for bomb core but I am not sure if worth it for 1 or 2 more levels.
just a random waiting-for-dynamis gearshot, i know it needs lots of improvement

ur bazaar message says ASNO
oh yeah?!
well if he only has a 3x3 square per letter, M is kinda tough to draw... if he put the top middle one down, then it would look like an H
Take the top left and top right squares out of the A and make the M how the A is currently!
I would suggest a Bailathorn until Bomb Core. Not like they're expensive.ideas/thoughts? this is my highest melee job and i've mostly been gearing due to things i've read + help from people. Thanks in advance.
Body, IMO, it depends on how you're leveling. SH+1 is very good to TP in for pickup parties where you may or may not have a BRD. A Haub is better DD'ing, but it's not as though SH adds nothing for that.
If you're static'ing and/or have a BRD, Haub/+1 full time is very viable with Elegy n' a march. If you have that, go full-on DD build.
Katanas, personally, I took more the route you're going, and did quite well. I did get a Hototogisu, but at this point it's really not worth going for as it's marginally better than your NQ now, and will be outdated at 66. Add a pair of Fudos to your in-waiting list and you're set until you get Senji/Perdu/whatever.
Also, consider what you're going to use NIN for. If you're like me, and mostly merit or do small group stuff with it, you'll likely not need the Arhat's +1, Eris' +1, etc.
Unless you have plans to tank NIN/DRK or something, or they were gifts/sentimental, I would consider selling the Arhat's +1 to buy your O Kote or other pieces like that.
NIN was my first melee job that I partied with (did BST, and geared it well, but my pets didn't really care).
SH literally, will do nothing for you on IT mobs since without +10 eva or with -20 eva (depending on body piece) it's still going to have capped accuracy on you.
There's also the 10 Eva (well, and another 1.5 from AGI) on the Emp pin, and I assume +5 from earring (Elusive n' Stoic I guess? Stoic might be better replaced with something else). I agree that a SH does not an evasion build make, and that a full-on evasion build in XP won't keep the mob on you. My contention is more that a SH isn't -just- Evasion.
What I observed in merit with an evasion-neutral build on Colibri (using Koga Chainmail instead of Haub) versus Haub meant maybe a couple percent higher evasion. Meant very little. On the other hand, using a little more evasion gear, casting Kurayami, etc in XP would see more of an impact. It's a different situation. You're looking at what, -30 acc from Kurayami Ni, and with that gear, +28 evasion in addition? That should make some impact.
Obviously, adjust to the situation/party setup. I found it to be somewhat helpful to use a setup like that in pickup parties though.
I would Fulltime SH+1 myself. Hauby will let you do more DMG, but you will also lose shadows faster, which lose hate, but the worst part is, the sooner you will have to recast utsi spells. The amount of DMG gained from Hauby is less than that of the extra hits you get in not casting. I had 4/4 evasion merits when I did this as well, if it matters.
As for AF Body and swift, my Acc was never good enough it seemed (When I leveld NIN, didnt have a parser so could have been wrong), so never used AF body and only macros in swift for Utsi timers.
As for earrings, I did Evasion Earring (The skill+3 one) and Eris+1. I felt the enmity on all hits helped a bit with holding hate. I rarely ever lost hate (Til merits at least), and I leveld it post ToAU Melee burn.
Yeah, for sure. Don't worry about him nagging you for TPing in SH+1. Alot of ToAU exp mobs DA like crazy (sup crawlers). If you don't have march or elegy, it will help more than some attack and str/dex will. I wouldn't go spike earring if you were to replace intruder, I'd say elusive if anything considering the rest of your build. I used a Bailathorn for acc+3 until bomb core if you wanna try that out.
Hm, well, if you are trying for evasion you could go with Velocity at least (not too expensive) for +4, and Elusive if you feel like it. That'd be +9 evasion with no penalty to attack stats.
Nothing exceptional at that point though.
This is NOT true. An IT/IT++ mob is going to have capped accuracy against you (due to game formulas being so broken) regardless of tanking in a Haub or SH, therefore, Haub is the clear-cut winner. Evasion really only going to matter on shit thats Tough or lower. Or on VT if you stack a ton of it.
You can cap evasion on an IT mob using just gear at 75, but that's hardly the point. As militant said, your evasion rate is going to be absolute shit unless you pile it on on most slots.. changing one piece isn't doing crap for you besides gimping your damage output, and as a result, your hate.
Always pt with a brd, elegy = tank in anything you want ;3
I play mnk and sam against IT mobs and evade often enough to wonder exactly what you mean to say here. If you mean that the mob has capped accuracy against me and that it has a 95% accuracy rate even with my high job trait evasion and / or evasion gear, then I beg to differ. Not only do I evade more than the implied 5% rate, but its significantly obvious once I use focus. Thf and Nin are of course even better than this.
Please post the links to back up your post especially with the explanation of the broken formulas you refer to.
If you meant to say that choosing a piece "just" for evasion while most of the gear is oriented towards DD, then I understand that point. I would never argue that SH+1 > Haub +1, but I think the way your post read, it implied evasion skill and gear was not a useful part of how to evaluate gear choices due to it having no value due to the implied "broken" formulas.
IMO extra evasion on a thf, mnk, sam or nin is not useless, but except under rare situations, would never be a key factor in evaluating gear. Its a nice to have (may be a very nice to have).
I'm sorry, but I'd like to see a parse of this. Note that shadows, counters, anticipates and parries are NOT evasion. You may see more than you think you should, but I doubt you sit there counting to 20 after each time you evade. When I merit with friends, I bitch on vent every time I miss a WS (on Samurai), and it happens, a lot. Constantly people question if I am capped accuracy on my WSes, and every time when we look at the parse, my WSes are landing right around 95% of the time. The thing is, I WS a lot, and I -notice- the misses and the DAs the most. The others just blend into the monotony of meriting.
Furthermore, you are likely spending a lot of time on VTs (merit camps) and perhaps even Ts (Dynamis/Limbus), so your experiences at 75 likely don't even apply here.
Also, a ninjas evasion is actually lower than a Monk with Dodge on (I assume you meant dodge and not focus) sans gear.
In any case, you can't jump on someone else for not posting proof, then make a claim based on random eyeballing without proof yourself. (Note, I am posting no proof because I am making no claims, other than that your claim is as lacking as his. I honestly don't know if it will affect evasion rate or not at that lvl vs ITs. I think even if it does, a nin geared for evasion is a waste of a slot in an exp party. Even a bad healer should be able to manage mp fine as long as the nin isn't awful with shadows up. When I lvled my ninja, I actually lowered my evasion as much as possible so I wouldn't have to worry with clicking off Ni. Damage taken was only a problem on imps when someone let agas get off.)
You are sorta funny. Sorry, I dont have a parse to show that.
Nonetheless. when I play sam / war I can distiguish between shadows (none), counters (my filter is off), parries (my filter is off) and anticipates (my filter is off). Its somewhat obnoxious for you to assume that only you know how to read and interpet a screen, but oh well.
I don't get your logic. I didn't post that the formulas to calculate accuracy are broken which is exactly what I was responding too. I said I experienced something which is substantially different.
Implicitly, the poster was saying that nins and thfs and mnks and sams evade as often as wars and drks. That dodge has no effect on mnks evasion.
Making an assertion about how the game (and the code) works for everyone is not the same as making an assertion about what one person feels happens to them in the game. To you that might seem like the same thing.
Thankfully, people in the courts don't confuse statements that assert facts with those that are opinions. They don't have the same burden of proof.
cheers!
I'm quoting your first post to let you re-read what you said. Perhaps the way my post came across was not what I meant exactly. I know people can read a log, but your asking him for proof and then giving none yourself is pretty stupid.
He claimed mobs have capped accuracy at that level. You claim there is no way in hell, and then tell him he needs proof, but post no proof to back up your "fact" that he is wrong. You are hypocritical at best, and hypocritical and wrong (due to the fact you are eyeballing it and almost definitely not counting the # of hits to misses) at worst. And again, many mobs you fight at 75 are not IT.
