So does not buying "Made in China" goods from your local Walmart and dollar store.
Not buying goods made in China has about the same impact as voting in elections.

    Take that however you want.
So, a large impact? Since, out of those who vote in elections, the votes influence who the representatives choose.
I think he means it can have a huge impact or a little impact based on how apathetic you are. Some feel voting in elections has no impact and some would rather die than give up their right to vote.

The same for made in china goods...
Except I think it's pretty obvious that voting has a huge impact in elections. There have been very few instances in US history where the vote did not reflect the winner.

Unless he didn't quite mean it that way, and instead means that it only works if you have enough people backing it.

    ^bingo

Not only that, but even getting 5% of the people to vote for a certain person can create the impact of a statement, even though the candidate won't get elected.

That doesn't ever mean you shouldn't try to support your beliefs though because you really don't know how many people are behind the same ideals, so going through with it is worth the effort.

I don't know of any country that is thinking of boycotting the Olympics, so dispel that notion from your head (whoever is thinking it).

Some have discussed boycotting the opening ceremony.

Anyway, this is exceptionally tame controversy compared to prior Olympics controversy, and it is to be expected in a place like China, where the central planning tries to control its shitty image and other countries basically say "um....but um...what?"

You sir are winner of the thread. Hockey and curling are the only reasons to watch the winter olympics.

Know your Olympic history- it's happened before to Olympics held in the USA. Politics can and does sway which nations come to an Olympics- if it's repugnant enough...countries boycott.

(And after what happened in France with the torch, even the IOC is wondering.)

Know your Olympic history - the only outcome of the boycotts was that athletes were denied a chance to compete at the peak of their abilities. If countries boycott...nothing happens and their athletes get no reward for training and qualifying.

And the country gets to be known as the country that boycotted. That is a real effect and can have future implications.

Wait, you mean 13 other countries also boycotted? Who were they again?
