Marduk Set best for which job?

My melody +1s are out on loan but I'd never even think about stacking evasion on BRD.

I wouldn't use Melody +1s in my def gear set generally, even though I do carry one as my off earring with Musical. A lot of the times I use that gear set are in situations where I'm being lazy and just going to train a zone. If Mazurka's my only song up, and something takes a swing at me, the eva skill doesn't kick in, so I just use Ethereal which I carry on me for things like Einherjar where it's nice.

Darksteel harness is also a good (if horribly ugly) alternative for def gear. The only advantage of Osode is that you do have 10 CHR on it which makes it far better for casting in than darksteel (e.g. for sleeping).

Yea... I use Darksteel Harness in Einherjar because I gave away my Osode years ago. I make it a point not to switch to it until LONG after the mobs are pulled and engaged, minimizing the chances anyone's paying attention to what my character looks like... >< Honestly though, something like Gomlek or Manteel would probably save you damage taken in there over either Osode or Harness. I don't even really notice the Harness much, because in Einherjar, where the mobs don't resist lullaby worth crap, I just leave my Terra staff on full time.

Hey Prep, as a 75 WHM/SMN/BRD with 5/5 Marduk, I should chime in on my experience. I think the best answer to your question about the effectiveness of the Marduk set comes from you, and how you play the game. Nearly all the situations for each Marduk piece has already been laid out, and I agree that each has very good benefits for each job, under certain situations. I found that the process of obtaining the set was very fun and rewarding, and have since used it for all 3 jobs. Your question was about the set.

The set is a good "standing" gearset. As far as WHM goes, I never use the set except to stand around in. For SMN, it's also used as a standing set (without an Avatar). I also equip the set to decrease the casting times of my avatars, then switch to a '-perpetual cost' standing set. My greatest use of the set comes from BRD, which I use to cast nearly all my songs, minus enfeebling songs and march songs. It is not the fastest gearset, but it fits my playstyle and events list nicely. In fact, the set ranks behind the Yigit body+Rostrum Pumps in terms of speed. For merit BRD, speed is key for some; but I have never had a problem pulling or managing songs in 20+k/hr groups. So again, it's up to you. In my opinion, it's just a rare set that, although not necessarily the best in all situations, is very different and cool to have, especially for BRD.

On another note, about Marduk gear, in a recent round of tests Kaeko and I found that Marduk Legs have a hidden/unlisted/typoed -4 Enmity stat. For some people, that can make a difference on their opinion of the piece.
