    Re: Conspiracy Theory: Planet X/Niburu

Off and on I heard about the search for the 10th planet growing up, it seems like it would be kind of cool. For those who don't know why they're searching, the outer planets orbits aren't what they should be or something (though since then, they might have found a mistake they made or what not), so they figured something outside would be causing the deviation. I did a few times they thought it might be a dark brown dwarf star which would make our system a binary star system, but I still don't see how that would be possible. I mean, we can detect dead dwarfs half a galaxy away and we can't find one on our doorstep? lol

Nope, they're an unstoppable force. Neither rain, nor hail, nor sleet, nor meteors/nuclear war/planetX/Canada can stop them. I'm betting once 2013 hits a new "doomsday" will be predicted.
IRONICALLY THE ONLY THING THAT COULD ACTUALLY STOP THEM WOULD IN FACT BE DOOMSDAY ITSELF LOL.

my roomate and I were talking about this the other night (he was pretty high). We were talking about the universe and all the funny shit out there: black holes, galaxies, dark matter, etc. Then we were talking about how it seemed like EVERYTHING in the universe had an exact opposite - every event. So we got into talking more about black holes and what their opposite would be - an ever expanding body with infinite mass...sounds like the universe.
Then we started talking about life after death and shit and idk we were pretty fucked up but it made sense at the moment...

i just watched the youtube videos documenting all of the evidence of planet x. after 2 minutes on the first 1 of 5 videos, i couldn't stop laughing. they do everything from quoting the bible to speculations of articles that speculate heat sources. all of their data contradicts itself. on top of it all, the guy making the videos is SELLING SURVIVAL GUIDES.

i'm not posting the video links because i have so much hate for this producer that i will vomit at the thought of increasing his view count for his videos.

this conspiracy theory, much like all others, is complete horse shit.

OH MY GOD A HEAT SOURCE. shut the fuck up and go back to playing with your moon landing, dick. (not you, norelco <3)

I'm fighting the good fight on another forum about this, refuting all of their claims. They're getting angry.

They're essentially a star that has collapsed into itself, forming an insanely small, dense object. Einstein theorized that something with such dense amount of mass in such a small area would have such a huge gravitational force that nothing, not even light, could escape it once it got close enough. The amount of power/speed/force needed to escape the pull of a black hole becomes infinite, and everything gets pulled inside it. You don't actually see the black hole, you see the light, radiation, space particles and everything else that's getting pulled into it.

That's it in a nutshell, there are tons more info on black holes and how they interact with the universe, but to my knowledge that's pretty much it in layman's terms
I always wondered why they decided to call them "black holes" considering they would be capable of being solid white as every single thing that passes the event horizon will be visually frozen there as the light that barely escaped the horizon comes at an increasingly slow speed, indefinitely... no?

Because no light is able to escape back to us, and since none of that light reaches our eyes, it is perceived as black.

Now, can an object be obscured by a black hole, or do things behind it get bent around it so we still see things even directly behind it (just wrapped around it like a ring if it's exactly behind, or above/below/to the side if it's off a bit)?

Clearly what needs to be done is to show this theory to those Digiclipse people. This is what they've been waiting for all this time! It's not doomsday, its a portal to the Digital World!

That's wrong for multiple reasons. First, a black hole can never appear solid white (they can never "appear" at all, in fact. We see things because of light reflecting or being emitted by an object. Black holes are thus invisible). Also, every single thing that "passes" the event horizon falls directly to the singularity and thus never reaches our eyes. If light were to be created just outside the event horizon and travel directly to our eyes, it would be gravitationally redshifted. That doesn't necessarily mean it will appear red when it reaches us. Depending on initial conditions, it could appear as any part of the spectrum by the time it reaches us.

As for the "increasingly slow speed", the speed of light never changes under any circumstances ever. It always moves at the same speed. Always. No matter what. (You may have heard of experiments where lasers were slowed. I wont go into the details of the experiments here, but the actual photons aren't literally slowing down in those experiments. The same is true of light "slowing down" in different mediums such as air or water. It doesn't literally slow down. For more details, see this topic from spam forums viewtopic.php?f=34&t=30700&p=960730& )

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I would think that if a very luminous body (light a bright star) was behind a black hole, at least some of the light would be going at the right angle to get bent around the black hole and reach us.

Keep in mind that most black holes aren't big enough to obscure anything in the first place (by size, I'm referring to the distance between the singularity to the event horizon; the effective radius of the black hole). A black hole as heavy as the sun would be 0.2% the size of the moon. A black hole 230,000 times the mass of the sun would only be the size of the sun. The super massive black hole in the center of the galaxy weighs 2.6 million suns, and is "only" about a 20th of the distance from the Sun to the Earth (<- hmm, that last one doesn't seem right. I may have done my math wrong D: )

Edit: Checked my math and I still get the same result. That's pretty big, but I thought it would be much bigger @_@

Just meant more like, in the following picture, would an object "smaller" than the black hole be viewed like the top row or bottom row?

Hey Woozie, how exactly does one calculate the mass of a black hole anyway?

Technically it's December 21st 2012, and the Mayans say it's the end of the 4th age and the beginning of the 5th. Which I find to be much more interesting, because even though a lot theories say it's the "end of everything" and such and that there will be massive death (or might not be), humanity will change.

Not saying I want something huge and bad to happen, or that it will. But personally I'm really curious why so many cultures point to that date.

Usually by measuring it's gravitational effects on the object around it. If an object is in orbit or is at least heavily influenced by the gravitational pull of a black hole, simple laws of gravity can be used to estimate its mass.

It's a depiction of an object moving behind a black hole. i.e.

    (object) ------- (hole) ------- (observer)

Would the observer see it like the top row (bent around the hole), or bottom row (just like going behind any other object)?
