The thing I find fascinating about the Mayan end date is that every lineage of man has gone through a "DNA Upgrade". Think about it. How did we go from homo erectus to homo habilis to homo sapien without any gradual change between lineages?
DNA upgrade.
If our next upgrade involves thoughts equaling manifestations, then those who think negatively or live in fear are screwed!!! Imagine thinking someone is always out to shoot you, so you pack a gun in self defense. If thoughts = manifestations, then everytime you turn around, guess what? Someone IS trying to shoot you!
There'll be a great awakening as it's already in progress. Those who put their ego before humanity may have a difficult time making the transition.
Just one man's opinion![]()
Not this bullshit again. The mayan calender DOES NOT END IN 2012. IT DOES NOT. Remember Y2K? Remember every idiot thought the world was gonna end because "ON NOES THE DATE WOULD BE 00". Well the world didn't end. Because the date wasn't 00. The date was 2000. And the world isn't going to end in 2012 either. Because the date will not be 13.0.0.0.0. The date will be ...13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13.13 .13.13.13.1.13.0.0.0.0. OH LOOK AT THAT, THEY ABBREVIATED THE DATE TOO. And on top of that there's a monument with a date in 4772CE, in which some guy with an ego problem thinks people will be celebrating him, from which it should follow that it was not believed the world would have ended by then.
Now stop bringing this nonsense up and get back to this fascinating physics discussion. :ashira:

They may hint at rapid change on an evolutionary timescale but we're still talking hundreds of thousands of years (a blink of an eye evolutionarily speaking is a VERY long time). This rapid change is something discussed at length by Evolutionary biologist Stephen J Gould (check out "The Panda's Thumb" and "Full House"). Further more you're assuming that a change from one to the other requires a massive genetic overhaul. Modern humans and chimps are overwhelmingly (above 90%) genetically similar. Small changes can yield large morphological differences. You're using your misinterpretation and misunderstanding of a scientific theory to bolster a non-scientific theological one, which doesn't hold water.
Also, Y2K is different- they thought the computers, which stored dates only as the last two digits, would think that it had gone to 00 from 99, not up one year but back 99. This could cause some of them to crash, computers that ran infrastructure systems to crash, people to get bills saying they were 99 years behind on payments etc. It would have been a huge mess ( not the end of the world but a huge mess) had people not gone and updated the software to make sure most of that didn't happen.
Please tell me that you're a joke accountOriginally Posted by maya12-21-2012
Edit: and please tell me you really don't believe that any main-sequence star in a binary system with the sun would orbit the sun like that.
