Re: 2008 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!

The scariest thing about Detroit, is not that they have such talent (as they've had relatively the same team for a few years, and maybe even had a better team a couple of years ago, and didn't win). It's not even the fact that the talent have a great system to work within, either, as they've had great systems in teh past as well. The scariest thing is how well they are coached, along with the talent and system. Babcock has really won my support with his coaching. He changed a few key matchups in game 2 when Dallas was coming on strong, and made some more changes in game 3 between both periods. He's quickly becoming a favourite coach of mine, as he really has a great mentality towards coaching, and he's definitely got many years left.

Oh, and Osgood has been looking very good as well. He actually has been making the difficult saves, and he's still able to come up with the routine saves (iirc, the media were always hard on him based on his knack for making great saves and then giving up really soft goals during the course of a game). He has been playing very consistently, and even though he may not even be the best goaltender left in the playoffs, he doesn't need to be with that defence he has in front of him every night.

Does anyone else enjoy watching the Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Holmstrom line as much as the Crosby, Malkin, Hossa line? Those have to be my two favourite lines in all of hockey, as they both have great opportunities on almost every shift, if not more often than that. The Wings' top line is so fantastic to watch, with the stickhandling, though, it's really a treat.

Crosby, Hossa, and Malkin only play together on the powerplay usually. Otherwise their lines are as follows: Dupuis, Crosby, and Hossa - Sykora, Malkin, Malone. But they are fun as hell to watch regardless.

Re: 2008 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!

Detroit is not the beast everyone makes them out to be. They showed vulnerablity in the first series against Nashville and have since got a play an absolutely injury devastated Colorado, and a Dallas team that had to go through two grueling physical series versus Anaheim and San Jose. Dallas has looked tired in every game so far and Detroit has just taken advantage. They still have the same weakeness they've always had. Goaltending and Size. And the size issue is just emphasized with Franzen out of the lineup.

They also have the disadvantage of having a Euro Captain. Call it stupid superstition or whatever, but the fact remains no team has ever won the cup without a North American born Captain. And Frankly I don't see Detroit beating Pittsburgh or Philly, because both teams bring something Detroit hasn't run into yet, size and scoring depth.

I missed the first two games against, but if it was anything like this one, it just confirm that Flyers does indeed suck. Glad to see them being destroyed by the Penguins, that's what they deserved.

Finals are gonna be interesting this years probably. Not sure which side I'm gonna pick tho.

    No, it doesn't lol.
    Kaylia, learn better English please.
The Flyers are struggling because Timonen is out and he was not only our best Defenseman, but also our best all-around player and a key part of our Power Play line. He also really helped the Flyers get pucks deep and keep them deep.
He shut down Kovalev and Ovechkin for the most part in the first 2 playoff series as well.
We also lost Coburn, so what we're left with isn't too strong.

We made a huge turnaround this year and next year should just build on what we did this season.

They made it to the EC finals by defeating the #1 and #3 seeded teams. Set aside your hatred for the Flyers and make yourself realise in order to have made it this far, you have to be a good team. I cant stand the Pens, and not just because we are losing to them. At the same time, I can say that they are doing what they need to to win these games. Getting a lead, and completely shutting it down in third period. Its really tough to beat that system and the Pens are executing it pretty damn well.

People think the Flyers are still the Broad street bullies (i.e. Kaylia), but they dont play any differently than any other team. Being physical and skating hard.

Flyers does indeed suck? Either you're trying to be cute and failing miserably, or you're just retarded. Either way you've proven you really dont know much about hockey.

Incoming: The Flyers beat the Caps because they got a few calls and they beat Montreal because the boy wonder was letting soft goals in.

I can't stand the Pens because they dive like crazy.
Ruutu was fucking hilarious after Biron whacked him in Game 2.
Malkin has been exaggerating to draw these hooking calls as well.

This is a dumb point for two reasons.

    1. The the Flyers must not be a very good 'team' if a single player getting injured is the cause of all their problems. How convenient it is that Biron isn't stopping pucks like he was the previous two series, or that Briere has all but disappeared.

Briere had 14 points in the first 12 playoff games this year versus his 1 point in 3 games versus the Penguins.

Carter pretty much cooled down. He was absolutely on fire in the final stretch of the regular season and to an extent in the beginning of the playoffs.

    2. You're not giving the Penguins any credit for playing superior hockey.

    Yea and?

I know the Pens are a better team but to say the Flyers suck is retarded and shows you know nothing about hockey. Flyers overachieved this year I'm happy with worst to conference finals, was way better than i expected.

I replied to your original post because I took exception to you telling a person they know nothing about a sport. I don't know why but blanket statements like these annoy me.

How does this show this person knows nothing about hockey? It's an opinion.

Besides, what do you care about some random online person's opinion about the Flyers? I'm impressed with their remarkable improvement this year. That's something special to go from not being in the playoffs to the ECF.

This is the reason why the Flyers are losing. The Pens right now, are playing phenomenal hockey. The fact that Philly's main scoring threats have been invisible is killing them. They are turning the puck over in the neutral zone more times than any team ever should. And when they do test Fleury they are in poor position. There have been several nice fat rebounds Fleury gave up that should have been hammered home. The Flyers just look completely out of sorts right now.

Now as to the comment about the Flyers sucking. I can tell you don't really like them much, and living in Pittsburgh I like them even less. That being said, your comments are complete garbage.

The Flyers finished in the basement of the Eastern Conference last year. They fired their coach and tossed their old GM out on his ass. The fact that they not only made the playoffs, but knocked off the #1 seed along the way speaks volumes about their management.

Any true hockey fan knows how difficult it is for a team to turn it around. Take the Penguins for example before we drafted Malkin and Crosby all we had was Ryan Malone and players like Ramzi Abid and Rico Fata. It took us how many years, and two all world players, to make it back to the playoffs.

Yet the Flyers did it a year after the worst season they've had in recent memory. The Flyers had a fantastic season, period, point blank. You can't let your dislike of the team cloud your vision to the point where you're saying they are an inferior team. They aren't. True they are going to lose this series, but it still does nothing to tarnish everything they have accomplished this year.

Well, fix my posts so I can learn how to speak better English instead of just being a fag... But hey, can't expect a fag to stop being one after 2000 posts.

I know you're a fanboy, but hell, your contradictions in this thread are ridiculous. I'm not allowed to blame the defeat on a single player, Price, for letting 1-3 soft goals in per games, but you can blame a defenseman's injuries to explain the results of 3 one sided games? To add to the irony, you complained about Penguin diving a lot, implying that referees are giving bad penalties.

You can tell yourself many times they outplayed their opponents in the first two series, but every matchs they won were pretty damn close (compare scoring chances, look at the goal that got in, compare time in both zones and they always fall last). They were lucky to get that far, and that's why they are getting raped by the penguins. Capitals and Canadians had much better chance against the Penguin imo, but I doubt they would have won.

Re: 2008 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!

You aren't allowed to blame the defeat of the Canadiens on Price because he was not the reason they lost the series lol.

The Flyers were keeping the puck in Montreal's zone often enough to score goals.
Versus the Penguins we can't really do shit. We can't get pucks in deep, we can't keep them deep. Players like Steve Downie aren't doing their job of clearing pucks and are also giving away bad turnovers in the neutral zone leading to goals.

Our offense just seems to have no rhythm this series. I'm not a fanboy at all because I actually have rationale to back up my statements.

The Flyers weren't lucky to get to the Eastern Conference Final lol.
You don't win a series 4-1 by luck......

If you actually followed the regular season you'd know the Flyers were up and down all year due to losing players. It is pretty clear that we have trouble adjusting to loss of players and this needs to be fixed next season.

As for your comment about correcting you.
    Here is one.
but I doubt they would have win.
    Should be won, past tense.

Re: 2008 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!

Arguing with Kalyia is like talking to a brick wall.

She says the Flyers style of hockey (aggressive and physical) slows the game down too much. I dont see how that is even possible. If you want to whine about teams who "slow the game down" take a look at the Devils late 90s - early 2000. The neutral zone trap made games become 1-0.. 2-1.. etc. That's fucking boring. And that was all season long. The Pens are doing it now, yes, but all that matters now is winning the games before you lose 4. More power to the Pens for doing it and doing it well. Sucks to watch the Flyers play against it, but how can I get mad when the Pens are doing what they need to do to win games?

If you want to hate the Flyers, then hate them. But at least have some plausible grounds if you intend to give a basis for your disliking.

Re: 2008 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!

I'm sorry but Kaylia the fact that now you're bashing people calling them fags etc is pretty fucking sad. Who the hell cares if they are "fanboys?" I'm a Pittsburgh "fanboy." The difference is that the people here are EDUCATED hockey fans. They are backing up their comments with FACT.

Here's the thing. The people here know their hockey. If you come in and make a bullshit comment, you are going to hear about it. Take for example the comment that they play aggressive and physical.

    A. It's fucking hockey. Every team in the league wishes they could play 60 minutes of aggressive physical hockey.

    B. The Flyers had SEVEN different players score 20 or more goals this season. Which came from???? PLAYING AGGRESSIVE PHYSICAL HOCKEY.

Learn something about the game and then comment because all you're doing now is making yourself look like an ignorant moron.
