Re: 2008 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!

I love how every time the Pens shoot two of them throw there sticks up in the air like "Oh shit we scored"

other then that. This being the first game ive seen so far. One thing i noticed is this.

Red wings offence is very smooth, while the pens are Run and Gun.

Nice to see the Penguins show up today. Or to put it better, nice to see Sidney show up today.

Detroit came out very slow, all credit to the Penguins for actually showing up for the start of the game though.

If I was a Pens fan I'd be worried about that how that 3rd period went.

Detroit was getting tired in the third. Alot of falls and stuff.

A good game by the Pens. Came out knowing what needed to be done adn got it done... maybe just not in the cleanest way.

Re: 2008 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!

I'll never understand why Therrien lets Malkin quarterback the Powerplay and uses him on the Penalty Kill instead of Crosby. Malkin has been terrible since the middle of the Philly series and has really hurt their PP with dumb decisions and giveaways. Meanwhile they got Crosby crashing the net when he should be on the half wall. For god sakes he's there Captain and best player and one of the only players on their team that's actually getting it done and he's fourth in forwards ice-time both even strength and on the Powerplay. If I'm Therrien I want him on the ice as much as possible because he makes things happen. Especially at home where you can get him away from match-ups. Ugh so frustrating to watch this series, and not because I'm really a Pens fan, I just hate Detroit so much as a Canucks fan.

The only good thing about Malkin disappearing in the finals is that it's a great bargaining chip when it comes time for contract talks. Zetterberg is a good candidate for the Conn Smythe but I don't think there's any way that Osgood is not going to get it. Sadly my boys are getting outcoached and outplayed. Learn to lose before you learn to win I guess.

Watch them give it to Lidstrom just because they can. They did the same thing with Niedermyer last year. Getzlaf, Giguere, Pronger, hell even Alfredsson deserved it more than he did and yet they give it to him. The last time they actually gave the Conn Smythe to the right person was when Brad Richards got it.

Re: 2008 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!

Let's recap the scoring depth, for those of us who have been crying about Detroit not having any.

NOTE: All the NON first-liners are in bold.

Game 1: DET: Samuelsson for 2, Cleary, and Zetterberg

Game 2: DET: Filppula, Holmstrom, and Stuart

Game 3: DET: Franzen and Samuelsson
PIT: Crosby for 2, and Hall

Game 4: DET: Lidstrom and Hudler
    PIT: Hossa

Now correct me if I'm wrong... but it looks like only 1 of the 4 goals this series for the pens have been scored by non-first-liners, whereas Detroit is 6 out of 11 of their goals in that category (9 if you wanna count Samuelsson cuz he aint no superstar haha).

Now I give the Pens much credit because they are a very quick and skilled team to watch. However.... back to my original point, Detroit has too much dpeth and experience for this Pens team to handle. You can cry all you want about the refs too, but there have been cheap shots both ways (hey, it's the playoffs).

DETROIT WINS THE CUP AT HOME TOMORROW!

Uhh did someone actually contest that Detroit doesn't have scoring depth? I know I mentioned that Detroit hadn't faced a team with Scoring Depth, but I don't think anyone said they didn't have it themselves. Could be wrong though I haven't read the whole thread.

Add on top of that, the fact that Zetterberg and Datsyuk play on the same line. Where exactly is this depth everyone is talking about?

Now look at the Penguins. They have five different players with five or more goals. And that's not even including Crosby, who only as four goals.

Plain and simple, Detroit does not have the depth. They have the experience yes, but not the depth.

I am saddened that there will be no more hockey after tonight until next season. Baseball is like watching paint dry.

Sigh, they had a good run and a good season.

But hey, maybe luck can strike again?

Also why the hell does Malkin have more playing time than Crosby? Or am I just dumb??

Re: 2008 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!

One series and the rest of the team began scoring. I'm sorry but I still stand by my previous statement. Through out the playoffs until the Stanley Cup finals Detroit had little scoring balance. Apparently they must have read this forum and decided to start scoring. Fuckers.
