it wouldnt go over worse, you would just look like an ignorant fool that has a very limited view of the breweries in america. you can't tell me that the brews that come out of brooklyn, smuttynose or rouge are "piss" without looking like a moron.Originally Posted by Richybear

at least, since it's getting slightly warmer around here, I'll be looking to drink some lighter beers, most of the time. in fact I'm going to my favorite store in the world on friday, to load up my growler, and a mix-and-match 6-pack or 2 to just drink myself silly.
Honestly all the best beers are reigonal/local the ones you can't get everywhere.
In Minneapolis it's all about:
FatTire(Colorado?)/Summit(St.Paul)/Premium(Mankato)/Linenkougels(Wis)
I imagine it's the same basic concept for where ever you are (i.e. people from new york bringing up shit I haven't heard of)
I don't want to be endarged.
Good thing I only drink Maker's Mark.
Keystone IMO is cheap and effective, was the beer me and my friends would go with throughout high school. Still use it for beer pong and what not. If we want to sit down and enjoy some quality beers we usually crack open some Stella Artois'.

Also, Leinenkugels pwns.
Coors Light for Drinking games.
I don't consider myself a beer expert but I like Red Stripe, Summer Ale, and some of the different variations of Magic Hat.
I haven't really gotten into the local guys since I really don't drink beer that often. I'd like to try a few though. I'm about 60 Miles north of manhattan, what should I look into?
Go down to your local packie and get a six-pack of Sam Admas Cherry Wheat (which was bottled MONTHS ago because it's a late autumn brew)). Best beer they produce.Originally Posted by Richybear
Having to pour out all of those bottles of Sam Adams isn't a loss, the beer plain sucks in every single variety.
Those are absolute piss.Originally Posted by aru
Then don't even get me started on these breweries such as Flying Dog, because they have no clue how to make a porter beer.
Got a nice 6 pack of Anchor Steam in my fridge. Love it.
my post applies to you too i guess, unless you feel like backing up your opinion.Originally Posted by Dolmen
well, it depends on what you like. there's allagash out of maine and the high point brewing company (rammstein) out of butler, nj that make good-great wheat beers for the upcomming spring/summer season. some more varied breweries are brooklyn from ny,ny and smuttynose from new hampshire; you can pretty much pick up anything these guys make and it'll be a good buy. the same goes for rouge, they are out on the west coast but you shouldnt have too much trouble finding them around your area. if you want really local stuff i cant really help you other than directing you to http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/list...d=NY&brewpub=Y for a brewpub near you.I'm about 60 Miles north of manhattan, what should I look into?
OK, so you think Sam Adams is teh suck (it's five steps above Pisswiser and Coors, though).Originally Posted by Dolmen
What DO you drink, beerwise? Expand our experiences a bit.
My current rotation is:
Mich Ultra
Anchor Steam
Magic Hat #9
Loose Cannon
Sierra Nevada (Pale Ale and Celebration Ale)
Allagash (White)
Blue Moon
Hop Devil
Corona (in the summer)
Then there's all of the stuff from Great Lakes brewery...
Elliot Ness
Holy Moses
Alot more beers that I try and have had. Go to a bar with exclusively sells microbrews every Tuesday.
I think everyone talking about regional breweries has the right idea - most major commercial beers, though totally palatable, really pale in comparison to the stuff that smaller breweries are putting out. Victory Brewing in mid-state PA has a few great varieties, and their 'Twelve' is easily one of my favorites.

And seriously, this whole I-only-drink-import-beer thing is just silly. You're just swapping mass-produced American beer for mass-produced foreign beer. It doesn't mean you know anything about beer, it just makes you a poseur.
I personally think Sam Adams is a pretty lousy beer thats far more bitter tasting than flavorful, but I know many people who love it so more power to them.
My favorite beer is Yuengling Lager. Its not too bitter and not too watered down, and just seems to me to be an almost perfect beer. Its extremely popular regionally and has gotten very high praise from just about every beer afficionado whos tried it.
Soarian, that just means that you aren't a Hop person. Sam Adams is a very hoppy beer.
Yuengling (which is a favorite of mine) is more, well, it isn't even Malty (sweet). It's well balanced, but it ISNT hoppy.
My absolute, favorite beer is the Synebrychoff Porter, but it's definitely not a beer to drink regularly. Others I like:Originally Posted by Kyreth
Hoegaarden
Franziskaner Weissbier
Schlenkerla Marzen (Smoke Beer is amazing)
Mönchshof Schwarzbier
Trappist ales such as Koningshoeven and Achel
Kronenbourg 1664
Various stouts (Guinness, Beamish)
I've also gotten into Lambic beers lately, and they're very different from traditional beer.
Luckily we have a Total Wine & More near where I live, so it's extremely easy to get these (minus the Synebrychoff which I order from a distributor on rare occasions). If I'm drinking "lawnmower beers" I'll go with:
Spaten
Spaten Dunkel
Warsteiner
Smithwicks
Stella Artois
Heineken (a good safe beer for restaurants and crappy bars)
I will completely agree with you and say that in most dining establishments, a Sam Adams is amazing compared to what's normally on tap. When I first started drinking beer, I was really into Sam Adams, but over time (and exposure to more beers), the flavor didn't seem right, a bit artificial.
In terms of Rogue (you wrote Rouge, but I'm assuming you meant Rogue), the flavor did not sit well with me at all. It's a bit amateurish for my tastes. They're still a young brewery, relatively, so they will more than likely improve.
Brooklyn, just no. Their line of beers have been crazily overhyped in the markets here. They have cases of it stacked up everywhere (along with that new Margaritaville lager beer). I expected it to be a lot more than it is.
Smuttynose comes off with a "micro breweryness" about it. Not my style at all.
However, we can't forget the best beer of all: Arrogant Bastard Ale. So strong in taste that I couldn't begin to finish it.
I have a growler of Victory Pils in my fridge at home right now.Originally Posted by Fluid
