And seriously, this whole I-only-drink-import-beer thing is just silly. You're just swapping mass-produced American beer for mass-produced foreign beer. It doesn't mean you know anything about beer, it just makes you a poseur.

Lol... Beer is like wine in that every area that brews beer has an incredibly different, natural taste. I mean, take a French beer compared to a German beer, and the tastes are light years apart. That's what makes beer such an amazing experience, because often times it's like a culture put in a bottle. One piece of credit that I will give Sam Adams is that while they do have a bit of a German taste, it still is distinctly American. It's that New England culture put into a bottle.

Beer and food pairing, having a palate for beer, etc. -- all of these things are the ever growing change in trends for beer drinkers.

Craft/Micro brews are trending up for the first time in 5 years. Unfortunately (especially for me, I get paid a commission based on Samuel Adams sales), I think the catagory leader might take a hit for some time.

However, we can't forget the best beer of all: Arrogant Bastard Ale. So strong in taste that I couldn't begin to finish it.

And strong is alcohol percentage...it's ilke 7.8%.

I haven't come up with an excuse yet to buy the Oaked Arrogant Bastard...it's like 15 bucks for a 6 pack here.

Get a Schloss Eggenberg Urbock 23°, it's 14% alcohol by volume. It's ~$13 for a 4-pack, with some of the Schloss Eggenberg line running ~$26 for a 4-pack.

Then there's Old Rasputin Imperial Stout with 9% ABV, but it's so ungodly awful. It quite literally tastes like rubbing alcohol, and smells a bit like it. Then again, North Coast Brewing Company makes awful beer. Their Red Seal Ale was perhaps the worst beer I've had in my life (Old Rasputin was #2), I'd rather drink Coors Light. Red Seal Ale has earned the nickname of "Club a Seal Ale" in my circle of friends as we're pretty sure it's made from clubbed seals.

The Ommegang brewery in Cooperstown, NY has some nice 10% beers...Three Philosophers, Hennepin...there's another one I forgot. Cask beer, nice taste.

Duvel is up there too.

For nice darks I'd recommend Mackeson XXX.

It's like the only good stout you can get in Alabama. I hate Alabama, if it's over 6% or comes in a bottle bigger than 16 ounces we can't get it period, and everything else has to get approval beforehand.

Either way Mackeson XXX is good.

If you think Sam Adams is a bit too hoppy(like me) try Session, I've described it to people as a weaker version of Sam Adams, tastes a little less like your drinking pasta, which is a turn for the better imo.

also in my earlier post I forgot Oberon out of Michigan, probly the BEST summer beer (well mabye Liney's Sunset wheat but some people would lol at me saying that) you can get in Minnesota.

Yuengling (which is a favorite of mine) is more, well, it isn't even Malty (sweet). It's well balanced, but it ISNT hoppy.

Yuengling! They don't/can't sell that here in GA so whenever one of my friends leaves the state they pick up a keg of it. Its a cheaper beer but great flavor for its price. At first i hated Sam Adams but I've tried it again and like it a lot. Its got the flavor of good imported beers but better supply and price. I really enjoyed the new spring ale, the White Ale, and would probably drink it out of one of the tainted bottles. No wasting beer here.

Blue Moon, Sam Adams, and Fat Tire are all good beers, not for pounding though in my opinion.

Bud Light, Miller serve that purpose well enough.

I'm only 22.... but I enjoy Sam Adams well enough, especially Sam Adams Light (Sam Adams Light really surprised me on how decent it was) when my girlfriend isn't in the mood for anything heavy.

But when I order beer I never get Sam Adams, only get it at stores for me.

-IPA (I like the one from Four Peaks.....I've had a hard time finding a decent IPA besides that one, though)

I happened to stumble across that Magic Hat #9 at a deli by my house last night.

I grabbed a six pack to try it out. It was pretty average. Not bad but not fantastic. I think I saw they had Hoegaarden as well. I'll pick some of that up Friday and see how it goes.

#9 is just a reliable fallback for me. Nothing fantastic, but it's not crap either. You pretty much said it.

Honestly all the best beers are reigonal/local the ones you can't get everywhere.

In Minneapolis it's all about:

FatTire(Colorado?)/Summit(St.Paul)/Premium(Mankato)/Linenkougels(Wis)

I imagine it's the same basic concept for where ever you are (i.e. people from new york bringing up shit I haven't heard of)

Fat Tire Amber Ale is awesome. I didn't think I'd like it, I normally stick to dark beer like Stella or Newcastle. Mmm, Stella...

In terms of Rogue (you wrote Rouge, but I'm assuming you meant Rogue), the flavor did not sit well with me at all. It's a bit amateurish for my tastes. They're still a young brewery, relatively, so they will more than likely improve.

Brooklyn, just no. Their line of beers have been crazily overhyped in the markets here. They have cases of it stacked up everywhere (along with that new Margaritaville lager beer). I expected it to be a lot more than it is.

Smuttynose comes off with a "micro breweryness" about it. Not my style at all.

i dont understand how you can say this and post that a rauchbier and trappist ales are in your favorites. hell, even lambics are incredibly flavorful but that doesnt make any of them bad.

i just dont understand how you could say that the breweries i posted are piss and then turn around and list spaten, stella, heineken and hogaarden as being some of your favorites. at best, imo, these are within a tier of each other with what i posted. it just seems to me that you are giving bonus points to europe for some reason.

Arrogant Bastard Ale is meant to be the strongest tasting beer in the world. It's bitterness is off the charts, and the taste is extremely 1-dimensional. It is seen as more of a dare beer because most people can't finish it.
