Have any of you guys tried the tournament? Some Japanese guy did it in 1:34xx but I have no idea how. Fastest I could get was just over 2 minutes because the CPU kept hitting me with shit.

delayed response to this, but i just started trying the tournament and the lowest i could get my time was 1:53. the best time in the world is 1:32. i used baby daisy with magikruiser and got hit a couple of times so i'm sure i could have gotten a couple more seconds out of that. best i can say is hope for a triple mushroom and time them perfectly, pop wheelies with a bike, and hope you don't get hit by anything.

I just restart the race any time I got hit by stupid bad luck, even if it was lap 3. Then again my lowest time is 1:50something, so bleh. I wish you could download their ghost data and see what they're doing different.

Try seeing the fastest time trialer, I saw what they did but they had to use a triple shroom to get past 1 of the spots that is normally grassy.

I understand that nintendo wants to open the game up to more people. I understand that you wanted to rid the game of "snaking", that's fine, but you have over simplified it by taking any kind of skill out of powersliding. It's just too oversimplified now. That's not all. You dumb down the game and leave me with almost nothing to master. I master the little nothing and go race on 150cc. Remember that thing I mastered? Well fuck it in the ass, cause that shit does not matter here. I have never seen so much rubberbanding in my life. If you are in first and you get hit by anything, be sure you are going to be in 10th out of 12.

Remember when blue spiked shells and lightening bolts were rare? I got hit by 7 blue shells in one race. Every single time I managed to get in first place, it would be just in time to get raped by a blue shell. Of course it's the same when I'm second, cause your blue shells because an explosion that will own me as well, even when I'm not first.
The item ratio is fucked up beyond all belief. Here is the kicker, I'm in 10th place and I get a nice shit item that does nothing to improve my odds. Those bastards are already half a lap ahead of me.
The AI gets all the items and it's not even fair. I play online and it's easier. Why? BECAUSE I'M NOT TAKING 7 BLUE SHELLS UP THE ASS! I also hate the fact that there is no item switch. I'd like to turn those fuckers to low.

Haven't worked on any of the 150cc yet do to a lot of online play. My two non star rankings in 100cc were just terrible cups all together. I think in both I won first place by like 1pt (/.\)

Online time trials are ruined. No info on how the exploit works, but some weird ghosts keep appearing on Wi-Fi with times <1 minute for courses.

I'd get all stars in all cups but I don't want stars saying I know how to race the computer appearing over the wheel icon. Gotta get all stars in 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc to unlock everything though so I did that. Looks like a lot of people here didn't spend as much time unlocking shit and just went right for the online. I felt the need to unlock stuff so that when my friends come over we're not stuck with the default characters, though I realized all I really needed to unlock was the Miis.

As for getting gayed by blue shells and the "lack of skill" needed to play the game, maybe try some higher acceleration wheels. All that "this game takes no skill" talk makes you sound like the kind of person who throws his controller at something when you lose.

Agreed. I made some posts earlier in this thread about how ridiculous the computer was, but once I got in the swing of things, it's really not any harder than the others.

No offense to you, so don't this as a personal attack, but I lap people online regularly. Some courses it's harder to do, some courses it's easy as hell. In Rainbow Road I've lapped up to 3rd my best, but usually lap between 5th and 6th. I know you said second, but if you're not racing very skilled people, then it's not hard to lap them.

When it comes down to it, bikes beat cars because of the wheelies, except in certain stages. Drifting takes some knowhow to get the most out of it but getting wheelies to work is just go straight and don't hit anything. Doesn't work very well if you're surrounded by people so someone who gets a good lead and doesn't get fucked up by blue shells and lightning will have no problem furthering their lead, especially in longer, straighter courses. I bet all the world's best time attacks are held by heavyweights on fast bikes.

I think it's a combination of your overall track time & tricks performed

Dunno if there's anything that specifically gets them but just get first and do lots of tricks, don't fall off course, etc. I appearently got 2 stars in Mirror Lightning using automatic drift and the Classic Dragster, so it should be easy enough if you're either 1) really good with the wheel or 2) decent at nunchuk/GC controller.

Shit like constant blue shells will probably hold you back and make it necessary to try again every now and then.

60 points (4, 1st place finishes)

Staying in 1st place position as long as possible during the race. (being in 2nd the whole time then getting 1st in the last possible moment hurts your chances big time)

Avoiding course obstacles (offroad, falling off the course, etc.)

Sorry man, I enjoy the game I really do, but sometimes it sickens me. I don't know how many times I've been half a second from the finish line and in first only to come in 10th. When I say skill, I mean look at mario kart 64 or even double dash. No matter what kind of cheap items you got hit with, it was still possible to win with ease if you were good. I really detest not being able to powerslide, the new technique works with bikes but makes no sense (as much sense as a mario game can make) for karts.
You cannot argue with me that this game requires more skill than 64 or DD. That said, online is where it's at. Converse with me after you've beaten f-zero gx completely. Not all of us throw controllers, we just clench our teeth and restart the race.

I've beaten F-Zero GX, and if you have too then you should have no problem beating Mario Kart.
