That rant would make a lot more sense if anyone but you had mentioned graphics at all.

Meh, I'm like 3 1/2 chapters into this game and I still don't see what people like so much about it. It's a decent game, but there's sooo many problems with it, I really don't see why it's such a phenomenon in handheld SRPGs. I guess it might be the fact that it's relatively easy to understand and get into (mostly because it's so simple and straightforward as far as SRPGs go), but eh.
Thank you for proving my point.Originally Posted by Genosync

Oh, wow, someone else just mentioned some newer portable games that actually have gameplay...
Huh, Crisis Core wasn't on the list either. I wonder why?
Look, I'll just throw down some facts for you, ok?
I know that generally professional reviews miss a few things. Sure, they screwed up, big time, with WA:XF.
But Crisis Core?
All of these 75-80% scores cite amazing psp graphics, great soundtrack and voice acting, and a very good story. Lots of 'content' too. And then they chop the game down from 90-100ish because of the gameplay.
And, it's not just one professional review. It's just about all of them. So before you go and say I'm going on some personal crusade against one game, and proving your point, why don't you check what the thoughts of the old-school RPG community is, aka those of us that started out as wee lads with FF1 and Dragon Quest and went on our way up from there.
And in terms of portable systems and experience with portable gaming, I've had every single portable system that's been released in North America (aka I never had a wonderswan), and I play a lot of damn portable games. I haven't even played my own console in three months.
Can't wait for The World Ends With You this week! It's going to be epic win multiplied a thousand times.
the thing is synchro, ff1 has fucking terrible gameplay.
Isn't that what MMORPG means?Originally Posted by Beckwin

the point I was trying to make is that it's kinda hard to see what's happened to gaming if you don't really see where it started, and where it's gone, and now where it's ended up. jerk.
afk playing more XF
FF1 is not an MMORPG, lol...
Also, FF1 did not have amazing gameplay. However, for its time, it was quite good. Not amazingly unique, but they pulled together mechanics from a lot of games to make something epic, interesting, and challenging.
The problem with Crisis Core is that its gameplay is incredibly boring in an age where that type of combat mechanic has been immensely outdone, is outdated, and probably shouldn't be used anymore.
Oh, I misread that, thought he said FF11. Disregard.
