I think after my 4th loss, I was so jittery before entering that BCNM that I had my friend who had way more experience with melee jobs beat it for me. And it took him 2 tries. My friends were helping me with items, testimonies, and gear so every loss felt like I was letting them down and taking up more of their time and money. XD

That fight is such a huge combination of shit you normally never do, luck, capped skills, good gear you'll NEVER use again, and not being taru that I still remember it as one of the worst times in the game for me. Every time he would do SOMETHING that dropped my HP into the red and then just finish me. And it was never really that I came unprepared or my strategy had some fatal flaw... It was just pure unlucky bullshit.

I came back with a vengeance, a bunch of borrowed gear, and a Joyeuse when I finally won. It was a little overkill for a Maat fight but he still almost dropped me. I hate that fight to this day. It has nothing to do with how good you are at your job... It's almost more of a test of how NOT BARD you can be.

I distinctly remember beating this with a wing sword (not capped skill, just high enough for SW) and simple SV Paeons on me, requiem/elegy/finale on him. The Requiem does 16 dmg/tic when SV'd using Siren Flute (18/tic possible now with Shofar+1) and the Paeon's heals 26 hp/tic. I also remember having Selbina milks handy for Maat to Finale. I brought 10 or so hi-pots and used like 3. I did sleep 200tp, and then wing'd up to 300tp for the opening Spirit's Within. The fight was very uneventful even though I ate an Asurans to the face. It was more or less just waiting for Maat to slowly die. I guess I can see how things *can* go wrong, but by no means do I think this is the hardest Maat fight...possible winner for most awkward?

    There's a big difference, really.

You don't get screwed out of Maat fights like that, which is kinda what the topic was about.

Big difference between luck and poor design causing some instant wipes.

Like, everyone thought the Cerberus assault was bad luck, because 'wah wah gates of hades wah elementals wah wah' until we figured it out, and then the sucky people that can't adapt to it chalk up losses to 'bad luck'.

    Whatever.
Dunno if you've done the new G5s, the statement that:

there is no such thing in ffxi as bad luck--it's only you thinking you're actually good at the game, when you suck ass.
would be put to the test if Raubahns having a bad day and decides to open up w/Bad Breath or physical spams you down into the ground. Theres no counter for that, except a nice waste of a BLU testimony.

Qultada is another battle where you hope your Wild Card hits the mark, pure luck if you win or not - no 'skill' about it.

Re: Statement of fact re: RDM Maat

One time, in a double Bard merit PT on Birds (they wouldn't let me go Corsair, because they were retarded as shit), I went BRD/NIN and so did the other Bard.

So what did I do then? I demanded to melee. Dagger, Joy, full fucking melee gear, and put up slightly decent numbers.

Also, you should note that Bard, while however taking an extremely long time to kill a mob, is able to solo a great many deal of mobs that other jobs cannot. Elegy is no fucking joke--and you've got a lot of other buffs at your disposal too, and can Sleep the mob in an emergency.

Is it worth it capping your Dagger and Sword anyway, even though you'd have to do it for the Maat fight? Short answer: Yes. Long answer: already gave you that.

BRD Maat was pretty easy for me, but then again, I was 75 and had basically every piece of gear a Bard would want to melee in (outside of Heca for WS, I didn't have THF or WAR75 until near the end of my stint). Even though it was easy, it did provide me insight as to what a Lv70 BRD has to be able to do to win that fight:

    A. Sleep Pot to 300% and open with Spirits.
    B. Use Marches.
    C. Have tons and tons of Hi-Pots (so that you don't have to use Paeon).
    D. Spam Dispel as fast as you can at the beginning.
    E. Open with Soul Voice.
    F. Don't forget Elegy.
    G. Cap your freaking combat skills!!!! Seriously. This, along with RDMs not capping their Magic Skills, are probably two of the biggest reasons they both lose their damn BCs. Morons. A little preparation goes a long way. I mean, I understand that first job RDMs aren't really nuking much because they don't have the merits (in addition to the way parties operate now as well), but you've gotta at least toss in Stone 1 or something retarded occasionally and say you're doing it to raise your Elemental Skill for Maat fights. Seriously, the good players will understand why you're doing it and they'll probably think more highly of you for it too.

Oh, and Raubahn opens up with Bad Breath? Why, hello there Remedy. Seriously now.

COR fight? I haven't done it, but based on what I know about Corsair overall (and keep in mind I'm a Ranger by trade, but well versed in everything), it's a pushover.

Anything can be won with the excessive use of Meds, outside of DRK Maat (you can get Maat's Bashed and get instakilled if you're LV66, but not at 70). Hell, I won THF Maat (yes, I had to kill him, no, the steal scroll win only works on your first maat win period) only because I spammed the fuck out of hipots (I was Lv68).

Spam spam spam the hipots; win win win the BCs. Only exclusions are RDM and BLM Maats, of course.

Oh, and Raubahn opens up with Bad Breath? Why, hello there your dead. Seriously now.
There is no time to use potions in a G5 vs Raubahn. You need to spam spells to win or die, even a second of pause from the onslaught you need to output on him means your going down in a ball of fire. Unless he uses Magic Fruit spam or wastes his own precious time casting self-buffs like Mettalic Body you are going to win or get eaten.

COR fight? I haven't done it, but based on what I know about Corsair overall (and keep in mind I'm a Ranger by trade, but well versed in everything), it's a pushover.
In the COR G5, you need to output damage again rapidly or your going to get overwhelmed with Quick Draws and his Vulcan Shots. Your almost 100% dependant on a Wild Card that gives you TP and restores 2hours to win the fight because after a while it just turns into a battle where hes beating the paste outta you and your on the ropes chugging potions to barely stay alive.

BRD Maat was surprisingly easy, but the newer G5s are head and shoulders above the rest. They favor on luck more than actual strategy.

Anyone do DNC or SCH G5?

and this right here, this one sentence, proves to me again that you don't know what the fuck you're talking about at all and nothing you say can be taken seriously. g'bye!

Facts? Proof to backup your statement? Do you even know what im talking about?

Oh, i just noticed i said '2hour reset' for COR, its TP restore - not like the main point wasnt clear.

The simple summary to my statement is that vs ToAU G5s (the two ive done) you are basically spinning the roulette wheel to determine if you win. Raubahn can end your run with overbuffing himself (the Diamondhide, Memento Mori, Refueling, Warm-Up combo) or with him casting too many physical spells in succession. Qultada can outlast you if you run outta TP to unload on him or you dont get the Wild Card TP to finish him off. Most Maat fights give you a chance to use HP potions (at least SAM and BRD did), Qultada and Raubahn send you home in a bodybag.

    Point still stands:

Is innacurate, especially if you've played the many aspects of FFXI, beyond mere G5s.
