Aegis isn't that good anyways.
Aegis isn't that good anyways.
I think that was him. Out of all the PLDs in Cog that have an Aegis I think Ryuliten *sp* actually knows how to use his well. The others are either posing with it or just hadn't had that much time to really learn how to use their relic.Originally Posted by Therin

lol
Sigged as soon as I saw it this morning... troll or not, that's pretty lol.
Umm, i'm pretty sure that was a hit on therin... Therin used to be in our LS. And if i'm not mistaken that's Yus from our LS on fairy. It's most likely a quote that Therin said or just knocking on therin, shouldn't be taken seriously.
Funny as hell out of context though.
We had one of those in our LS.
d.ring drops and he comes on vent saying "Defending ring is that good anymore."
So now saying things "ain't that good anymore." is a long running joke for us.
If that's a jab at me, it's definitely a butchered quote, but I'll take it anyway.Originally Posted by Dantrag
Everyone who knows me knows that I'm not very pro-Aegis. Of course it's good, and of course it's the best shield in the game, but there are many other things to spend the time/money/effort on upgrading that will have a much greater effect on you or your linkshell, whichever method you took to upgrade. Weapons or Horns help DDs or BRDs a lot more than Aegis helps a PLD.
Aegis doesn't let you do anything you couldn't do with a Koenig Shield, it just lets your mages be slightly more lazy. Honestly, with the typical Aegis users that I see dying so damn much (hi Dracu from Fairy, Sylvana from Cerberus, etc.) I'm surprised people even still bother to upgrade it. It's the reason why I'm doing Excalibur over Aegis. The sword opens up a variety of new possibilities while the Aegis just slightly fine-tunes a few old ones.
I will say, however, that if Burtgang is good enough and easy enough to get, I might get that and go for Aegis instead, since I obviously couldn't use Burtgang/Excalibur at the same time while tanking. <_>
*EDIT* To elaborate more, the increase in shield procs from Aegis are very minuscule on /NIN when you're macroing on shield gear and almost capping the proc rate with a Koenig Shield. Really the only significant advantage of having Aegis (which I would hope everyone knows) is to get the -25% magic damage taken.
Most of the time, that small amount of damage mitigation isn't really enough to make more than a mere difference in convenience - if your tanks are going down to MAGIC based attacks on anything that isn't Proto - Ultima's Citadel Buster or like.. Gates of Hades and Meteor, which shouldn't be hitting you anyway, well, to put it bluntly, you're doing it wrong.
Attacks like Tebbad Wing, Hurricane Wing, Lava Spit, and so on aren't even a challenge to a skilled PLD, and really the only time I've seen Aegis shine is on a missed Stun with Gates/Fulm or a Dreadstorm. Funny thing is, the most damaging part of Dreadstorm isn't the 600 damage AOE but the following Terrorize which leads to anywhere from 1 to 3 hits of completely unblockable physical damage, and an Aegis isn't going to help you a bit there. So overall, Aegis makes things more smooth or simple but it in no way really changes any aspect of the job or opens any opportunities for you to do anything that you couldn't do without it.
One instance where I completely agree that an Aegis is absolutely EXCELLENT is on Absolute Virtue - but guess what? No one can kill him anyway, so who cares.
If the choice was presented to me, I'd definitely take a D.Ring over an Aegis and use the Aegis money on things that are going to have a greater tangible effect on my character like HQ gear for my DD jobs.
You forget being able to hold HNMs with just a couple people a lot more easily while the rest of the LS arrive.Originally Posted by Therin
Yeah but what good is that?Originally Posted by Xrave
What NMs? Assuming you're not mentally handicapped or something, you should be able to easily hold Cerberus, Khimaira, or Tiamat for more than enough time for anyone to arrive with just PLD + BLM or PLD + RDM/BLM.Originally Posted by Xrave
Emolite (BLM/WHM) and I held Khimaira a number of times for nearly 15 minutes back on Cerberus. Cerberus or Tiamat are even easier because well, Cerberus is a pussy and Tiamat can be slept.

I only wish this was town gear. u.u
Not trying to be a dick here, I'm honestly curious: what are you accomplishing by posting pictures of the members IN YOUR LINKSHELL in a thread that is designed to make fun of people?
All I'm seeing is:
"Hey look guys, my linkshell's recruiting standards suck ass because we recruited this guy!"
Not exactly a very good message to send the others, don't you agree?
Note: Nothing against LP, just curious why you're doing this.
Maybe they didn't take the LS's criticisms and they are trying to have other people laugh at them so they change?Originally Posted by Therin

Hey, AF+1 gloves are useful for TA. I use 'em.
This guy brought his party down to camp on top of my party today:

Who is telling these people that bottom birds can hold two parties?
That screen was taken after my party had disbanded and left. I guess they couldn't handle all those birds!
