In FF3 I had a dark knight spam souleater through everything. It was like having a black mage but not having to waste the MP.

Story-wise, FF4 has more to work with because it actually had a story in the first place. The original FF3 had barely any more story than FF1, and most of the story elements in the DS version, except key plot advancement events, were added in there to flesh it out a bit.

So, while I have yet to play FF4DS, I can only imagine it will feel "faster" in terms of plot/story. Can't speak for battles and general grinding much yet, though.

By the way, by "not read the manual" I just mean the character bios in the beginning, not the entire manual.

I couldn't help but notice while I was levelling up outside Baron some monsters casted 'Beak' causing Petrify. I can't remember if it was the same in the 2D version because it's been a long long time, but could it be that they missed out an R!?

Cockatrices (birds) use their beak to attack you.

It made sense to be like that but I would have expected them to attack you with their beak for that, the animation just looked like a Break spell lol

FF4 was my first FF when it came out for the SNES, so I have some fond memories of this. Don't have a DS though.

I heard they upped the difficulty considerably on this version. I can't wait to get paid so I can get this (and the Spaced box set).

Bosses now have counters out the ass for the old tricks. For example, if you relied on blasting the shit out of Scarmiglione phase 2 with Fire spells, you're in for a nasty surprise.

Blew through Cagnazzo last night. He's only weak to Thunder spells during the charge-up for Tsunami now, it seems. Still, Yang and Cecil felt a little worthless during that fight.

Also, maybe it's just the fact that he was reset to level 1, but PLD Cecil feels a little gimp?
