I enjoyed this although the entire video seemed to been ripped straight out of Lost in Translation. I guess it appeals to the target audience though. I'll admit doing something like she's doing is a moving experience. I recommend it.

You had me at M83 :nikkei:

Once the lyrics kicked in I really liked it. But like most people have said so far, the intro was too long. I liked it at first, but not enough changed over time to keep it interesting.

When is their new album supposed to come out, anyway?

jesusshitbitchchrist, you can have music without vocals. It's not a 5-minute into for a 8-minute song. It's just 5/8ths instrumental. If you don't like instrumental, that's one thing.

I liked it. And I agree, you can have 5 minutes of instrumentals without calling it an "intro". But you really can't say a good part of that song wasn't just intro music. There was very little/no progression at all until the 3:30 mark. It had the same loop played over a semi-interesting music video for a long ass time before anything happened.

Yep, it was an intro and it wasn't a good part of the song. I do enjoy instrumental songs but they have much more going on in them, the first few mins of this song were rather simple and not entertaining.

i didn't think it was simple at all. they're juxtaposing this really basic bass line with a lot of intricate and syncopated rhythms from the drums. it's a lot of little things, but there's a LOT going on just in the drums. and the piano kind of meets them in the middle and connects the two in the middle. it's kinda like I Heart Huckabees, with the 2 extreme, opposing philosophies and then jason schwartzman and mark wahlberg kind of meeting them in the middle. yeah dumb comparison i know but i just watched the movie again so whatev >_>

If the intro was 1-1.5 minutes then I would have liked it cause it still sounds pretty nice, but it gets to the point where you are just waiting for the real part of the song to start and the instrumental part is what is holding that back.

Re: Death Cab For Cutie's new single

Aside from the boring intro loop in the beginning, which wasn't all that bad really, I just think this guy is a horrible songwriter. The vocals killed it for me. I know rockstars generally don't need to have a large vocal range, but this guy sings like my dad, honestly. Everytime I hear these guys, its like a bad reincarnation of Coldplay, REM, and Stone Temple Pilots. There are plenty other bands, sitting on indy labels right now, I could choose from that do a much better job at taking elements from those bands IMO

Note to bands: If you're going to have a 4 minute (close to 5) long intro/instrumental part in an 8 minute song please make sure it doesn't suck complete ass.

Ah, DCFC, I've been meaning to listen to some more of their music since I first heard 'Soul Meets Body' awhile ago. Any recommendations as to which of their cd's I should start with?

Re: Death Cab For Cutie's new single

We Have the Facts and Are Voting Yes is their definitive album, IMHO, and probably always will be. The Photo Album is still great and Transatlantacism and Plans have some really great tracks too. So far DCFC hasn't sold out hard enough to change their style of music and the progression of their albums is good. I still won't pay to see them through binoculars in some nosebleed seats, but I enjoy the music. Something About Airplanes is my least favorite album, but it's still pretty damn good.
