Re: Death Cab For Cutie's new single

i'm fairly new to listening to DCFC, but so far my favorites are:

we looked like giants, what sarah said, a movie script ending (the two previous songs are by far my favorites so far), transantlanticism, passenger seat, a lack of color, someday you will be loved, i will follow you into the dark, your heart is an empty room, soul meets body

they write pretty good lyrics, i'm a lyric freak so if a band writes plain mundane lyrics with absolutely no thought involved, i.e. 99% of the shit you hear on mainstream radio, i'll pass

third eye blind (yeah, go ahead and laugh) probably has written the best song lyrics that I've heard since 1997 and beyond, god of wine, the background, wounded, how's it gonna be, to name a few, have ridiculously great lyrics

also, josiah leming (one of the american idol contestents to be kicked off a while back) has his own myspace and the lyrics in the songs he's written are un-fucking-believable for being written by an 18 year old.

nothing wrong with 3EB at all.. Just because the mainstream wrote them off as a one-hit-wonder, doesn't mean shit. Any respectable musician who's listened to their albums can tell these guys could care less and continue to do their own thing 8) Those are some of my favorites too that you listed, I can't wait for them to push out the next album.

Idk about this band.. maybe the fact I can't stand this guy's weak/untrained voice is actually preventing me from giving them a chance. Also, it could be the put-together image making me throw them into the "similar sounding bands on UMG" category lol This song in particular was like listening to a Sigur Ros song that didn't include a dramatic bridge and follow-through after the long, boring intro...

    To each their own

His voice his hardly untrained Maybe you would get a better idea of his singing ability from some of their better songs, as this is not a great example to go off of. Now if you want a real example of a weak/untrained voice, go listen to Neutral Milk Hotel (a band that I do like but it takes some getting used to) for 30 seconds and you'll get the idea. Its like a guy who can't sing at all makes a band just to prove that he can.

As far as this individual song goes... Well, I might be in the minority but I absolutely loved the intro. The part where it falls apart for me is the later segments. The chorus was weak and the "na na na"s are cheesy. The song builds up so much potential in the first 6 minutes and then it just sort of flattens out at the end. I still listen to it because I enjoy certain parts, but I just end up disappointed at the end every time.

I really like the song. A favorite of mine from Death Cab would probably be Brothers on a Hotel Bed. :]

If you don't like every song off Transatlanticism, you probably have no soul.

Personally I liked Soul Meets Body by them more. But that one wasn't bad.

Re: Death Cab For Cutie's new single

I really like the way they make it sound when they sing this part:

"You reject my advances and desperate pleas, I won't let you let me down so easily"

    But that's it.

I really like this song of theirs though.

You'll have to forgive the fact that it's an amv, I can't find an official music video by them.

I Will Follow You Into The Dark is pretty awesome too.

Soul Meets Body is pretty good.

No, if you have Killer Queen as your ringback. Don't call me.
