    Simple INT on Blind test

I took a break from MND on Slow tests, to do a quick check on INT affecting the acc down from Blind.

The test was for Darkslitter~ What we did is went to bottom Coli camp and stole a Coli from the party meritting there(sorry =x). I used a BRD to cast Virelai on the coli, which charmed it, and then upon uncharm, reflected the Virelai back to the BRD. (BRD got charmed more than 50% of the time, so it was fairly easy.)

Darkslitter(RDM) casted Blind in 146 INT.
-Used /check and found /w +35 acc, Coli = Even Evasion.
-Used /check and found /w +30 acc, Coli = High Evasion.

Then we repeated the test, and Darkslitter casted 69 INT.
-Used /check and found /w +35 acc, Coli = Even Evasion.
-Used /check and found /w +30 acc, Coli = High Evasion.

It was a simple test, but it appears that Blind potency is unaffected by INT, and is a static acc down. It was a little hard since the BRD doesn't have a ton of accuracy items to get anything precise. If anyone wants to use this method or another, would be pretti cool to know the acc down values of Blind and Blind II.

If Blind's strength is based on the difference between caster and target's INT then perhaps you were already at the effect's maximum strength. Maybe you could repeat the test tryign to max the difference between both you're INT stats by having BRD equip INT gear for the second part so that it's at the very least CasterINT - TargetINT is a negative value.Though, I'd be happy if it is a constant effect.

Re: Simple INT on Blind test

Thanks so much for doing blind tests~ me and someone else were messing (link here) with colibri in a similar fashion 6~ months back and found that kurayami was obviously static (ni being -30 acc). Been busy with moving and work recently, so I've been meaning to get back to it, but i'd love to chat with you a mite about this stuff though.

Someone in that post I linked did reply saying that MND did play a role in determining the potency of the black magic blind spells-- though the blog he linked to said target MND was compared to caster's INT for some reason-- which is a mite strange. Some clarification would be sweet. 8)

Ahh I hadn't seen that thread. Good to know there's a number out there for acc down~ And Hi Mashu =o

As for Caster INT - Target INT, BRD had 67+3 INT. So on the 69 INT test, it would be a dINT of -1.

One small issue with this test: does the bird reflect the spell with the same potency? Or does it simply cast the spell, using its own INT stat?

    edit:
    Nvm...misread the test.

We casted Virelai on the bird and then blinded the brd

Re: Simple INT on Blind test

My only concern would be if player vs. charmed player uses the same mechanics as PvP, which could have been adjusted to have a static accuracy reduction even if regular blind has variable potency. Although, even if this were the case, you could use a similar test to the one aurik thought you did here, by getting reflected back by a Greater Colibri and then repeating with a lower-lvl Colibri, which should have lower INT.

Edit: If you're still out there have the RDM nuke the BRD w/ a Tier 3 spell and see if the damage matches up to the expected damage.

Yea, I was basing the test off the assumption that PC vs Charmed PC worked the same as PC vs NPC. We aren't out there anymore, but we should be able to run a quick test sometime later /w a tier III spell to double check and make sure it follows~

I've been nuked a few times charmed in Dyn-Beau / Besieged, and I have taken full damage (with respect to what they usually nuke for) from AMIIs. So I'm fairly certain the battle behavior of PCvCharmedPC works exactly like PCvNPC.

Also, it seems like the target would have to a drastically higher lvl of INT (or MND, pending that weird JP blog has any truth to it) in order to determine whether there's variation in the spell or not. Seemed like DS capped potency easily in both setups, but yeah, more tests ftw. Could be very wrong, and it all could be static too... something worth finding out, for sure.

I always assumed it would be a set Accuracy down because Gravity is a set Evasion down.

By "expected damage" I meant the mathematically predicted damage determined by the RDM's INT, MAB and any other offensive bonuses and the BRD's INT, MDB and other defensive bonuses.

Re: Simple INT on Blind test

    Hello,

AFAIK, Blind potency is affected by INT. While I haven't done any testing myself, several reference sites give the following calculations for Blind potency:

    Blind I:
    (Caster INT - Target MND + 60) / 4 (minimum cap 5)

    Blind II:
    (Caster INT - Target MND + 100) / 4 (minimum cap 15)

The source is the FFXI Dictionary, which credits VanaMon blog for the testings, but I'm not linking that as the site appears to be infected (>_<).

Maybe this will be of some use to you...

Re: Simple INT on Blind test

This doesn't outlaw blind being affected by INT, but isn't Kurayami > Blind, always?

If that is true, then either the cap for Blind < Kurayami, or that both Blind/Kurayami potency are affected by a stat, or that both are constant.

don't know if im making sense, hour 59 of my no-sleep campaign.

Blind II (merited) > Kura/BlindII(no merits) > Blind I think

but idr and never really cared, 'cause the actual necessity for Blind is rather low and limited to low-man, easier mobs

I was wondering about this, I guess I can take the INT rings out of my Blind macro for my 21 RDM.
