    Decisions, decisions (PS3)

I am terrible at making them. I am currently contemplating whether or not to get the 40GB PS3 since everyone has gotten me pumped up for the upcoming Metal Gear Online BETA. I know it's only two weeks but I know those will be some of the most fun and kick ass two weeks in gaming history. My original plan was to wait for the 80GB package and just start there. Now I want to get one to also play GTAIV too in between the release of MGS4.

The downside though of the 40GB is BC, but there are only about a handful of games I would like to play that are left on PS2. So I guess I will also throw in the refurbished 20GB PS3 at GameStop.

So I ask you BG, what should I do? I know a lot of you will be in BETA as well I am sure, so help me decide because I fucking fail at making decisions by myself.

I thought they said the mgs bundle is also 40gig?

I would say try and find a BC system, regardless of the HDD size since you can always swap a bigger hard drive in there if the size isn't enough for you (and i'm using the original 60gig and still have well over 40gig open with a bunch of demos and games/videos downloaded so space isn't really an issue with ps3's.)

That's the Gun Metal limited edition PS3 that has the 40GB. The other that is releasing on launch that will be in stores is 80GB with BC, MGS4, and a Dual Shock 3 controller.

Yeah I mean most of my friends that do have BC, never use it. So I don't know, all I really have left to play is Persona 3 FES and God of War 2.

Well, I still think that BC > no BC, you never know when you get some random craving for a ps2 game.

I'd say go with the 80gig bundle then, might as well wait 2 months. It's not like you're missing out right now.

I would be missing out on BETA.

I could go to my friends and play there but his apartment is a cesspool, I can't stand being there for more than an hour. Place is crawling with fleas, it's just ugh.

It might be worth it though, for METAL GEAR.

Depending on how good MGO will actually be.. I still have my doubts.

Reason says wait for the 80gig bundle, but go with whatever scores you the beta I guess if you want it that badly. The 20gig is garbage though, so forget about it. If anything, try finding a 60gig.

If it's anything like MGS3 Online then it will be made of win. I loved playing MGS3 Online, I lived off of it.

If it's anything further than launch date for MGS4 then fuck that bundle.

    IMO wait.
Dun like the 40, as far as i know they have 2 USB ports and i keep 2 things minimum plugged into my 60gig at all times <.<

20gig though? Mmmm, i wouldnt get that either. I think I only have 25gigs left out of my 60, but i guess if you like to delete things after you've lost your urge to keep them then it's cool ::shrugs::

standard $10 4 port usb hub works fine for solving any usb problems, and a usb memory card reader fixes the problem of that lost feature as well. really the only loss is smaller hdd and no BC.

No it's going to release on MGS4's launch.

    Quoted from the Playstation blog:

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PS3 Bundle
To coincide with the much-anticipated North American launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in late Q2 2008, SCEA will introduce a PS3 bundle, which will include an 80GB PS3, the upcoming blockbuster Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for $499.99 (MSRP).

That's a kickass price for the contents of the bundle, btw.

    Re: Decisions, decisions (PS3)

they cant make a patch as the 40gb are physically incapable of playing ps2 games, they dont have any ps2 hardware in them at all, the 80gb still had the ps2 graphics engine, just not the processor/EE.

One of the PS3s is missing the Emotion Engine.. don't get that one as you'll have more difficulty playing PS/PS2 games.

Well PC's aren't suppose to be capable of playing consoles but there are actually GameCube and PS2 emulators out there. Sure the games you can actually play are far and few but still some hope.

I read the interview the guy who mentioned that possibility in my EGM. He said it's something they are considering in the future.

TBH I think that would be fair since the only model out and being produced currently is the 40GB, kinda weak that you have no choice if you wanted BC you can't just pick one up at a store.

There have been four models released in the US: 20GB, 40GB, 60GB, and 80GB. Of those, two had EEs and two did not. The ones without are the 80GB, which can play something like 90% of all PS2 games perfectly well using software emulation, and the 40GB, which isn't backwards compatible with the PS2 at all. All PS3 models are backward compatible with the PS1, regardless.
