Model Viewer Question

Kind of a noob ass question...but I'd like to get some character shots from AltanaView or w/e to make myself a new sig, but I do not have a PC capable of installing/running FFXI. Is it possible to install a viewer, then just find the .dats somewhere else other than the original game files? And if so, anyone know a good spot to find them?

Can't answer your question but I can offer you a workaround. If you have an external (or internal) 20gb or bigger hard drive, you can install FFXI and all expansions onto it and then run the model viewer and point it to your the external (it should pick it up anyway) and you should be able to load up the models without ever needing to be able to play FFXI.

So even if your PC cannot run FFXI, I'm sure you can still load the models up and play around with that. It sounds like you have a PC afterall.

Otherwise if you want to go via your own suggested method, I think there'll be quite a lot to download and as well as a need to create a virtual FFXI installation on your PC (via registry entries) before A.Viewer will work.

Replicate the installation tree. C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ is the default. Just know that you're probably going to need more files than you would expect for animations and such.

Basically I have a PoS laptop that I'm not sure can even fit installing the game, but I may be able to do the external HD deal, thanks for the suggestions.
