    What do you consider cheap?

Wondering what the BG group considers to be cheap in brawl.

For me its doing nothing but projectiles, Pit's arrows/Halo Ring etc etc.
Yes, I know they have those kinds of moves but after about 15 barrages of nothing but it tends to get old D:

Unfortunately for me, I like to play the somewhat spamy characters (main Lucas) so I try to not depend too much on the projectiles, but sometimes its needed to get people off of you.

Oh, another thought too, since I did it by accident last night, is edge hogging "cheap" or just part of the way you're supposed to win?

edgehogging has to be done quickly, so doing it well is a skill. not cheap.

    items
    huge stages favor projectile camping
other stages that favor projectile camping
    other stages that kill you

    cheap. cheap. cheap. cheap.

I agree... turtling on a map is extremely gay. It's almost as gay as ZSS's who start the match fucking spamming their A button like a motherfucker or the Pit's who start a match spamming that fucking arrow. IMHO, it's just gay when people purposely exploit the fact that projectiles are so OP when the slight lag online creates makes it hard to be precise about air dodges and such and use projectiles defensively and then punish you when you get fed up and finally approach.

What's worse is, the shield in Brawl fucking sucks and as a result it's made turtling a somewhat viable strategy...also grabs aren't nearly as good so that same turtler can turn around and shield if he gets in a tough spot and know he can't be punished as severely as he should have been punished. I don't know, maybe things will change with time but atm online play is really annoying especially when considering air dodges and things that need to be timed really well.

That's kind of my problem with Lucas. His thunder can continuously push a guy sideways easily off the screen, and if it's airdodged you risk time freefalling and dying if too far from the ledge. So would that be cheap or just "part of the character."

I don't think you can really safely dodge a PK Thunder online consistently, it is really hard with how short the air dodge is and how the tail will still do damage to you since it doesn't dissipate upon hit anymore. Not really cheap, just effective use of a move. I really don't think it's as cheap as some other things.

Edgeguarding with PK Thunder takes quite a bit of skill (some easier than other).

I consider some stages cheap (the ones that fucking own you for no reason) and projectile spam is cheap (anything more than 3 in a row is gay). Nothing else really bugs me.

Re: What do you consider cheap?

Brawl's flaw and probably what may prevent it from being very competitive is how easy camping is. Projectiles online are also very hard to dodge. Both of these can be prevented in friendlies by not being a gigantic asshole. Perfectly acceptable in tournaments, but keep that shit there.

As for specifics, I personally dislike Wolf spamming fsmash(sometimes Dash attack when they mess up) and lazer. It's not extremely terrible I guess, but I've seen so many people use it. Maybe it's just my c-stick envy.

The only thing I find cheap is Olimar's up+b.

Its so cheap because the enemy will almost always win if I get pushed under the stage and my Pikmin chain is like LOL 1 SHORT

    And I'm like BUT I HAVE 6

Projectile spammers are certainly cheap if they aren't doing anything but that. Also, I'm fine with edge guarding except for when people grab onto a ledge and just hang there to stop someone from getting back up. To me that's just a dirty/cheap tactic and spoils a match and my mood a bit. :/

Re: What do you consider cheap?

Edgehogging isn't really cheap at all. The only characters it fuck over are Yoshi and Lucario. And Lucario only on thin stages. That's assuming you don't mean using invincibility to hold the ledge, which I can't see how that could be cheap.

Re: What do you consider cheap?

using invincibility frames to edgehog takes some skill and timing. It's more effective against some than others, but if you use it at the wrong time against someone with a damaging recovery move then you're as good as dead when they hit you and bounce you off the stage into an unrecoverable death.

Re: What do you consider cheap?

Uhm... actually you'd both be right if this were Melee but it's brawl, since people auto sweetspot and ledge grab from a mile away you can still edgehog the end of lots of recovery moves back onto the stage. See: The end of Phantasm or the end of the firefox shit that all the starfox characters use. Even though it can damage you, it can still get you close enough to the edge for you to grab it without dealing damage to anyone holding the ledge, in which case the edgehogger wins out. Dunno if I explained that well but let's just say Edgehogging is more than effective against 2 characters. It's effective against them all; that isn't to say it's unpunishable but it certainly isn't useless.

Just spammers, ill play anyone regardless of their style (Kobb is a very roll/retaliate heavy person, brp is a lot more straightforward, thul baits really well and comes up with combos that I cant think of, zetah has great tech skill and can also chain together moves and advanced techs well) but a spammer isn't worth the time.

Oh and I fucking hate people who make me chase them, that's just another huge pet peeve. There are a lot of times where people will see me like... stop moving on a stage and it's just because I got sick of playing tag with the other guy.

Re: What do you consider cheap?

I'm honestly better in a 1v1, and yes I admit I roll/side step a lot (I blame Tabuu for that). FFAs I just attack anyone I see, don't really have much of a strategy for those.

This is the first game outside FFXI that I've had other real people to play against. In melee it was mostly CPUs D:

Edit: More Pit Bashing. Pit seems to have two projectile reflection specials, his mirror shield and his halo ring. I've seen some items/specials bounce off of it instead of damaging or at least stopping his attack. Seems a little uneven?
