    Anniversary gift ideas?

One year anniversary is coming up for my boyfriend and I, and I'm just clueless as to what to get him. It seems from others that I've talked to, men don't really give much of a shit about sentimental things. They want gifts that are practical and that they can use. Um, some quick info about him is that he loves Mcdonalds (not joking), basketball and world of warcraft (I call wow his second gf sometimes because of how much he plays it...).

For V-Day I got him a bunch of mcdonald's gift cards and a nice card and some other jokey things. But I feel like I'm supposed to put more effort into this gift, and spend alot more money/effort on it. He's going on a cruise over the summer, so I was thinking of getting him maybe a portable DVD player and some DVDs to go with it, but I mean, other than this cruise he NEVER travels so I don't know how much use that gift would be.

He doesn't like console games, but he likes PC stuff. He mainly plays wow though, so I don't know if I'd want to spend fifty bucks on a game he'd never play. I got him Orange Box for Xmas and he beat Portal super fast and then didn't really even bother with the other games.

I'm just SO confused. I feel like I should make him a nice dinner, or we can go out someplace nice/fun, but I mean...I gotta get him SOMETHING. What would you guys suggest, or, what have your S/O's given to you for your one year anniversary?

And before you say sex, that kind of goes without mentioning.

    Steak dinner! >O<

Drinker? Nice bottle of whatever his preferred booze is. Grey goose, redbreast, jameson, etc etc.

Gamer? Uh.. I dunno, honestly. You'd just have to take him to the store and say, "Pick a game! Have fun!"

Clothes? lolz, I dunno about that one. Leather jacket or something. We luvz our leather jackets.

Honestly what I'd want is a freakin' epic dinner at a nice restaurant or something. Like.. really nice. $40-$50 steaks, whatever.

^-^ But that's just what I'd want to do.

    Edit: LINGERIE :O

Edit2: Since he's a PC person, maybe a new videocard or something? Or a new gaming mouse/keyboard. I DUNNO RAWR!

    Re: Anniversary gift ideas?

Yeah I was thinking dinner too, but if we went to dinner then he'd want to pay so that would be more like him buying me a gift so it loses the whole point.

Lingerie is a good idea though...

edit2foryouredit2: He has a really pro computer right now, so I wouldn't want to get him a new video card and kind of risk fucking it up. Someone else mentioned this though, so that's funny. Also, he has a keyboard he religiously uses, and probably his mouse too. His keyboard is fucking...ridiculous. It's probably four+ years old and all the keys are like stuck down and just retarded, but in the past I've offered to get him a new keyboard and he said he likes his fine. It's weird, since he has a top notch PC but a really shitty dell keyboard lol.

    Re: Anniversary gift ideas?

Well.. surprise him about the dinner thing. Get reservations, pay for it ahead of time, make it a whole big "secretive" surprise thing. Trick him into thinking he's gonna go to a lingerie place and magically go, "o hay lolz restaurant!" Then take him to the lingerie place afterwards anyway. ^-^

Edit: I totally understand the keyboard thing, it sucks getting used to a new one. You could get him a mousepad called an icemat, big smoothed out glass/steel mousepad. Things are epic.

Another thing I forgot to mention, and it's kinda gay, is that he REALLY loves loves loves Coldplay.

edit: he has a huge mousepad already, but I've never heard of a steel/glass one before...

    Re: Anniversary gift ideas?

This mousepad looks pretty pro lol. And yeah I was thinking about coldplay dvd, but honestly does anyone actually watch those things more than once? And you can probably see all the live stuff you'd ever want on youtube.

I'm really against buying any type of music, because he'd probably just download that. Same with movies, kind of, but I think maybe getting one DVD would be alright.

    Re: Anniversary gift ideas?

If you can get away with prodding him for info on a gift he'd want without getting caught, you could try that. But I'd just go with what you think he'd want. Dinner & all that is pretty much a given, the gift part is hard for sure. You know him better than anyone on teh interwebz so you're gonna have to narrow it down yourself in the end.

    Re: Anniversary gift ideas?

I've been dating my girlfriend for 5 years, lol. We don't even do anything anymore. But in the beginning all I'd do is take her out to a nice place, and basically have one of those cliche movie date things. She said she liked 'em.

I might be able to get one of these for the company I kind of work for. This would be the best gift ever for him I think.

    A comfy new computer chair.

New clothes; preferably something he's never seen. Maybe perhaps go to threadless.com and make your own tshirt involving something between you two that is funny.

Take him to a strip club; seriously I totally dig girls that enjoy a strip club once in a while. Buying him a lapdance wouldn't be a bad idea either! ;o

Gift cards to McDonalds is kinda lame and a not so well thought out gift.

A new Watch; jewelry is always used as a token of relationships. Plus it'll be something he would use daily.

    A new wallet.

I've got tons if you need more suggestions leah.

    Re: Anniversary gift ideas?

Naver alot of your suggestions seem to insinuate that he's into how he looks, and that isn't the case at all. He, 9 times out of 10, wears t-shirt and basketball shorts. He would never wear a watch, let alone a nice watch. Doesn't need a new wallet etc., wouldn't really dig a strip club that much I don't think. I mean, I'm sure he would but this doesn't seem like the type of thing he'd want to do. He's a big nerd and pretty shy.

I don't mean to say all your ideas aren't good, I'm just pointing out that these are things my particular boyfriend WOULDN'T like, so others don't try to say the same things. I'd love to hear more suggestions though. And also, with the McDonalds things...he really liked them because he told me not to get him anything in the first place (about 100 times) and so I got him something really small that he could use in a matter of days and not think I did anything that special.

Right now I'm leaning towards this silver icemat though, that is definitely the best suggestion so far.

Find something to do together rather than buying him something. You remember things you experience, not things you've owned.

    Re: Anniversary gift ideas?

Well, obviously I plan on doing something with him lol. The gift is just an extra "thanks for putting up with me and a long distance relationship for a year honey" type of thing.

I think I'm good though. I had one of my bosses tell my other boss I'd write a piece for the magazine I sometimes work for, for free, if I can get one of those figure print thingies for free out of it. Not sure if it will work though, since on their website it says it can take 30-60 days to make the figures. I wonder if I'm writing an article about the figure if they could speed up the process though. I'd need it before the end of May. Then, I think I'd also get the Icemat thing. I just think that thing looks so sleek.

You guys really helped me alot! And at 5 A.M. too. Very impressive, BG.

    Re: Anniversary gift ideas?

I was aiming more for things that he would use that would remind him of you, not really items that would insinuate he's into looks. First thing you said was that this is an Anniversary gift. Typically these type of gifts usually mean something more important than just a superficial item that gets tossed away to the back of the closet like those t-shirts family members give you for your birthday or those typical sweaters you receive during the holidays.

In any case, I'll tone down my ideas.

    • Picture frame with a picture of you two. [/*:m:gc88cb7c]
    • If he plays wow with headphones, perhaps something along those lines.[/*:m:gc88cb7c]
    • Is he a skater type of guy? Perhaps new skating equipment. a new deck, perhaps some new wheels bearings etc.[/*:m:gc88cb7c]
    • A trip to a theme park[/*:m:gc88cb7c]
    • Homemade cookies![/*:m:gc88cb7c]

Don't be dissing the awesomeness that is the standard dell keyboard.

Seriously, other keyboards that try to get all complex and stuff are total shit.

on topic, your bf sounds a lot like me, minus the wow and plus a shitload of console rpg gaming =x

Not really sure what a good gift would be, but from the description I get it really does sound like he'll be happy just spending time with you and the gift isn't really that important.

    edit: @above, home-made cookies: YES
