Lol anyone that says the Spurs are boring is stupid and has bought into the bullshit that sports writers feed everyone. Is it the defense that people don't like or that they don't run and gun? No defense and run and gun offense doesn't win you anything unless Magic is running your offense. Spurs big men and guards don't have to dunk every time and rely on fast break points cuz they can actually shoot the ball and force the other teams to make mistakes. Losing is boring, winning isn't.

They're boring as balls. The Bulls were bearable because they had Jordan and his retarded plays/buzzer beaters. Watching my dog take a shit is more entertaining than watching Duncan bank the same shot of the backboard or watching Manu and Parker prance around the court.

    Fuck the Spurs.

If you think that's all Duncan did then you aren't really watching cuz he only hit about 4 of those this whole series. You generalize Parker and Manu by saying they prance around the court LOL while they're doing what any player does with the flashiness of Kobe or Wade or any star player, who else slashes to the basket like Manu?. People that think they're boring, like you, have probably just been on the losing end of a match and can't get over it for some reason or another. Anyway if you think the Bulls were just "bearable" because of Jordan then I don't think anyone can help you. It seems like everyone is looking for Showtime again and if you don't play like that, talking heads and sheep like you, are convinced its boring lol. You should stop watching And 1 because its brainwashing you to think that it would work in the NBA.

Boring is my #2 reason for hating the Spurs. #1, they are fucking dirty. Manu graduated Summa cum Laude from Coach K's school of flopping. Bruce Bowen is notorious for being one of the dirtiest players in the league. Robert Horry has tried to injury 2 people in the playoffs in 2 years when his team was on the verge of losing the series. I can't really say anything bad about Parker, I really like that guy. I'm indifferent about Duncan. Say what you want, but the Spurs in the finals = a revenue disaster. Go look at their ratings last year.

As far as Boston sports. I <3 the Red Sox and I hate the Patriots. I don't mind te Celtics, but I liked the Cavs much more. I just wanted to see another Pistons/Cavs series. Last year was amazing.

Re: 2007-2008 NBA Playoffs - THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE

I don't know why people are blaming the spurs for the low ratings in the finals last year. The opposing team wasn't on the spurs level and had no business being there. So they got, pardon my french, raped up the ass. Not to mention the spurs vs suns match up in the playoffs is always extremely anticipated and full of excitement.

I also hear a lot of 'spurs are dirty' talk, like they're a team full of Dennis Rodmans kicking cameramen in the nuts for no reason. Flopping and hack-a-shaqing isn't against the rules so it can't be dirty until the rules say otherwise.

The spurs are a no more or less exciting playoff team than the celtics, jazz, cavaliers, or pistons from what I've seen, they just get a lot more hate. (My favorite teams to watch are sixers, golden state, and the hornets so its not like I have a mancrush on the spurs). If we want exciting finals we just need a more even match up.

Re: 2007-2008 NBA Playoffs - THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE

Since 2000, there's been 8 Championship series. 2000-2007. The Spurs have played in 3 out of the 8. Can you guess what 3 series are the three lowest rated? Can you guess? Yeah, you can guess. From 1990-2000, guess which series had the lowest rating. Yeah, 1999 the Spurs win the Championship. Ooh, just seen this. The year before that 1999 Championship, they had the highest finals ratings ever. The following year when the Spurs play....lowest in 10 years!

And no, flopping isn't against the rules, but if you want to watch fake basketball at it's finest, keep watching the spurs. You know Bowen is dirty, don't even try to dispute that. Horry, yeah, threw a guy through a table last year and had an -arguably- dirty play against West that injured his back.

There's only 1 player I've seen flop more than Manu....Reggie Miller.

Man I saw him in person back in the day playing the Nets. Most boring game of my life. I swear to god he went to the free-throw line 20+ times all from deep jumpers where he leaned into the defender. Then on the defensive end he would get crossed up and literally throw his body backwards to make it look like a charge. God I hate that motherfucker

The Spurs are good.... obviously. But they are still boring as hell.

Reggie Miller is amazing, you can't dispute that. His only fault was the fact that he had never won a championship.

Also, I'm a huge pistons fan ever since I could watch TV. The one thing I really hate if we beat boston is gonna be the match up. Pistons vs the Lakers/Spurs? Same fucking matchup every god damned year pretty much.

Spurs are a good team, you guys don't give them any credit at all and it's sad Timmy, TP and Manu are pretty amazing players and they never get any credit, only get called floppers and cheaters(lol@cheaters) I do agree Bowen is scum of the earth though, same with Horry.

Additionally, this is kinda directed towards Tyche but I don't think the players really care what the TV ratings are. They want those championships

Thats a horrible comparison. 1998 was the last year Michael Jordan won a championship with the Bulls. You don't think the ratings drop the following year had more to do with him retiring than the Spurs in the playoffs? Not going to argue about the later years, but the 90s were a bit different.

Re: 2007-2008 NBA Playoffs - THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE

I realize they don't care about the ratings, but when presented with the question of "are the Spurs boring are not" there isn't a whole lot of evidence you can use to support your opinion. Ratings can support it. I give the Spurs credit, I said the Western Conference Championship series would be amazing back a few posts. And I really think it will be. I also said that I really like Tony Parker. I'm indifferent about Tim Duncan, because, I swear to god, in his mind, he hasn't committed a foul in 10 years of playing NBA. ALWAYS complains and gives that "who, me?" look after being called for a foul. Drives me nuts. Manu/Bowen/Horry...they are the few that ruin the bunch for me. I fucking hate all three of them.

@Xavier. Yeah, it was the last year. After Bird/Magic left the scene, ratings plummeted til Jordan. After Jordan came, they went back up, after he left, ratings plummeted again, and have so ever since. Still, even when Jordan was "retired", and the Rockets were winning with Hakeem, the ratings were still better in the 90's than when the Spurs won, which were the lowest of that decade. Then in the current decade, everytime they've been in the finals, it's been worse than every other finals of the current decade.

Or the fact that their game-plan against the suns was "Hack a Shaq." Yeah man, that's awesome basketball to watch.

might also have something to do with San Antonio being a smaller market than Chicago and Houston. the average viewer that determines the ratings of the Finals are going to be influenced by that much more than by the tempo and play-style of the participating teams.

i'd bet a Jazz-Raptors Final would be able to break that record.

Manu is an excellent slasher, but saying he does it with the flashiness of Kobe or Wade is a joke. watching kobe or lebron sky over yao ming and throw down on him is a hell of a lot more entertaining than watching manu slash through for a layup. sorry but the spurs are boring as fuck.

I'm sure this is probably correct, but I'd go as far to say -speculate- that the only cities that would move the ratings up more than a point or two just from local fans is L.A., New York, Chicago, MAYBE boston, but I'd doubt that...I'd probably doubt chicago in this era. There's no doubt that L.A. moves the meter tremendously though. All the other cities I wouldn't imagine would move the ratings more than anything more than negligible. Hell, the Dallas/Miami series was rated higher than the last 3 Spurs championships, and NOONE in Miami gives 2 shits about basketball, they do well to care about football. I really doubt Dallas has enough local fans to carry it higher than a San Antonio vs Detroit/New Jersey.

Speculation, but I don't think it's a reach. South Florida has very little care about sports in general, so you aren't going to have a mass south florida market, and we know there isn't a lot of "Miami Heat" fans outside of Miami. So that leaves Dallas fans and general basketball fans that pull ratings. You trying to tell me that there are more fans of the Dallas Mavericks than Spurs/Nets or Spurs/Pistons combined?

Dallas is the 4th largest Metro area in the US (behind NY, LA, Chicago).

lots of casual people watched it for Shaq so it wasn't only Dallas pulling in the viewers.

Re: 2007-2008 NBA Playoffs - THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE

I wasn't talking about casual fans, but Xavier (or was it you) brought up "market" fans. Your general fans watching because Shaq is in the series is the antithesis of a market fan and the reason why I said the Spurs are "boring". They can't bring in that "casual" fan like a Miami (with Shaq) or even a dallas can (Mark Cuban). Miami is full of old retired people who migrated from New England, so their market maybe vast, but I doubt a lot of them are heat fans. You realize how bad their baseball team is. More Yankees fans show up to their games when they play the yanks than for the home team. When we talk "market" fans, I'm talking about the people who could give 2 shits less about the NBA finals, but are watching it because their favorite team is playing, or because of "home team pride".
