    Hope you're really selfconfident

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24199929/?GT1=43001

NEW YORK - Airports in New York and Los Angeles have become the latest equipped with body scanners that allow security screeners to peer beneath a passenger's clothing to detect concealed weapons.

The machines, which are about the size of a revolving door, use low-energy electromagnetic waves to produce a computerized image of a traveler's entire body.

Passengers step in and lift their arms. The scans only take a minute, and Transportation Security Administration officials say the procedure is less invasive than a physical frisk for knives, bombs or guns.
TSA officials say the system comes with privacy protections. Officers reviewing the images don't interact with passengers, or even see them. They sit in a separate area, look at the pictures on a monitor and push a button to either clear travelers or alert security about a suspicious item.

Images will not be recorded or stored. Passenger faces are blurred to further protect their identities.

For now, the scans will also be voluntary. Flyers selected for a secondary screening after passing through the metal detectors will have the option of stepping into the wave scanner, rather than undergoing a physical pat-down.

"We're giving people a choice," said TSA spokeswoman Lara Uselding.

Barry Steinhardt, director of the American Civil Liberties Union's program on technology and liberty, said he nevertheless had concerns.

"The images that I've seen are quite revealing," he said. "I guarantee you that as this gets more commonly used, you'll be seeing these images on the Internet."
It's apperently voluntary, but i can't help but grin a little. Commence the "my cock is huge" responses.

What does everybody else think of airport security now a days? I mean, i'm glad they're keeping me safe from terrorists and Zombie Hitler and such, but wow i really fucking hate going through airport security. I mean, i know their jobs suck almost as much as me having to go through all that crap, but they could, i dunno, try not to treat you like you're a criminal. Everyone else i talked to in the airport felt the same way. They just treated most people so rudely. Probably one of the worst experiences i have had travelling. And the prospect of having this added in the near future just makes the whole ordeal all the more taxing.

It makes me curious to just how revealing these pictures are going to be, that makes me decide if this is something I'm okay with or something I really don't like...

Airport security is a pain in the ass, but I realize its something that's necessary but I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with naked X-rays :3

I'd rather they assume the worst than have planes crash into buildings or blow up in the air, dunno about you.

I haven't experienced any 'rude' behavior, per say, and I've been to the biggest airports in the country. The only airport I hate is the one in Atlanta... I mean ffs, I think I stood in line for almost 1.5 hours just to get to the security checkpoint.

As someone who flies more than average (I think?) I don't have a problem with it too much. I hate bringing up race but I'm sure some TSA employees are biased. I'd say maybe 1/4-1/3 of them are the "I'm more important than you and I can make you wait for 15 mins if I feel like it" kind, and it seems like the rest are just kind of neutral.

As for the new technology, I can see both sides of the argument. Some people really hate pat-downs, but the possibility for images to leak onto the internet is of course there regardless of what is said.

I supposse that since it was my first time going through that experience, i'll have to go through it more for it to bother me less. But that shit sure was annoying.

Anyway, as someone who likes the idea of running around naked, and intends to go to a nudist beach sometime in the near future, this doesn't really bother me as much, but it i'm sure it would annoy/make alot of people uncomfortable. Grimmace remains on my face nonetheless.

    Re: Hope you're really selfconfident

I have been to almost all of the "major" airports here in the USA as well, I guess it's just what day you get people on, sometimes people are nice and just doing their jobs. Other times people are complete assholes about it though, and thats just what usually ruins people's day.

I'm not saying that they should only hire happy jolly people that smile all day (people who smile too much are creepy), I just think that people don't want to get treated like terrorists when the vast majority of us aren't.

I've never really had a problem with the pat down or the taking off of shoes and such, it's quick and I can move on. Besides with all the people in the airport it's not like the guy who's checking you is gonna cop a feel or something. I much rather just have the pat down than have some picture of my naked body on someones screened, and possibly saved (but that's another arguement all together). It really has nothing to do with self confidence, as I'm pretty confident with myself. It's just a matter of decency I guess.

    Also, I hate my friends.

Sylvy127 - When they scan you they're going to be like, "Holy shit this little boy has a vagina, Oh wait that's a girl LOL"
Starlightsonata - I fucking hate you.

I don't even make the assumption that they're keeping me safe. They're just shifting around red tape and hassling hundreds of millions of perfectly innocent American citizens and foreign nationals. There isn't a single TSA agent I've met in the last 5 years who wasn't some jerk with a badge and an over-inflated sense of what the government was allowed to get away with.

Do you honestly believe that since its creation the TSA has saved a single life?

When I flew around in the states, the only problem I had with anything was the fact I had to remove my shoes, very inconvenient. Other than that, it's not a huge deal, I wasn't taken out to the side and stripsearched or anything so I didn't feel it was too invasive.

At most what would happen :

    Put bags in baggage area
    Go to boarding area
Take off shoes and metal thingies
    go through the metal detector
    pick up all items again.

Like I said, slightly inconvenient but it doesn't take long so I don't mind.
