The plot was completely predictable and the dialogue was so ridiculous I thought I was watching Mortal Combat midway through. Although the fight scenes are decent, and the humor was done really well, its overshadowed by the horrible plot and text. In the end you're paying $8 for a 10 minute fight scene between Jackie Chan and Jet Li, which should have been about 20-30% of the movie the way it was advertised.
THANK YOU! i'm not the only one who thinks this. I've been bitching about how this movie was advertised since I saw the offical trailers for it online. The ones on TV make it look like something it is not. I didn't want another Transformers movie, fuck that shit. /sigh

I agree with this sentiment whole heartedly, the white kid ruined it for several of us that paid $11.25 for this Piece of Shit movie (yeah NYC prices). The "romance" was so f'ing lame. I would give it at best 4/10, and that's cuz of the pissing scene, the fights, and the hot asian chicks (especially the witch).

Like I said, The Forbidden Kingdom Minus The Last Action Hero Bullshit was an awesome kung fu movie. The Forbidden Kingdom on the other hand, sucked out loud.

I think it helps if you're not a huge fan of the genre? I didn't know what to expect going in, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. That, and it got major nostalgia points. <3 The Neverending Kung-Fu Story.

im a huge fan of the genre and did not see any problem with what they did. they obviously were trying to capture a much wider audience than the hardcore fans.

yea because most great old kungfu movies were known for their awesome plot and great dialog right? riiiighht. so the story was straight forward and the story of the monkey king is a mythical story. i dont see the problem.

I totally enjoyed it (typical grow-up become great fighter + crazy old drunk teacher and person looking for revenge) how many movies with that old plot are there? so many so so many.

whats funny is that im sure if the kid was some rising young asian kungfu star that played that role no one would have complained . . .

What would one's expectation be if the entire preview etc mostly contained Jet Li and Jackie Chan fighting? The transition from everyone speaking mandarian to all of a sudden everyone speaking English with occasional Chinese phrases was great? You are right though, the white kid totally ruined it. Don't get me wrong, there were some good parts of the movie that I thoroughly enjoyed, but my personal motive of seeing the movie was based on the preview which I explained above.
