    Chariot AoE element?

Discharge and Inertia Stream both seem like they'd be Ice-elemental, since they inflict Paralyze and Bind, both Ice enfeebles. Has anyone tested whether Barblizzara helps at all? People using SMN on Long-Armed Chariot, does Shiva (or Ifrit) consistently resist the damage?

This has been discussed a lot. I believe they're both physical spells with no magical element because fanatic's drinks (descrip: nullify all physical damage) work against both TP moves.

Doesn't fanatic's drink work on ANY TP move that does damage? eg Hurricane Wing

This is correct. It's not that the WSs are physical, it's that fanatic's drink description is misleading.

As for Discharge/Inertia Stream element, I guess ice would be a good starting place, but recall that many TP moves' elements do not correspond to the element of the additional status effect. The ones that can be learned as BLU spells are the easiest examples, Blastbomb is Fire+Bind, Mind Blast is Thunder+Para, Regurgitation is Water+Bind, Hecatomb Wave is Wind+Blind. There's also Hurricane Wing that inflicts Blind but was recently proven to be wind-based.

I should clarify what was said earlier, I don't think it does work against every damaging TP move (doesn't work against Discoid, right?), but it definitely isn't by the physical/magical distinction, either.

Back on the original topic, I'm embarrassed I haven't paid enough attention to know this myself, but do Discharge/Inertia Stream have constant damage by the same mob if the player's armor/stats remain the same, or does it vary? If it doesn't vary that likely means that TP doesn't affect it and then it should be easy to test at least 6 of the 8 elements with briault or meritted barspells like the Hurricane Wing tests. If it does vary with TP then it wouldn't be so easy. Either way though, something like that would be the best way to check, I don't really trust avatar damage tests for elements.

Easiest way to test if it's damage varies with TP is take the thing down <25%

    Re: Chariot AoE element?

the dmg seems constant, reduced with shell and INT unlocked. As for the bind/paralyze add effect.... occasionally (5% of the time maybe) you will resist the bind effect, due to ninja sub 'resist bind' trait. I think i resisted paralyze a few times too. Well it doesn't tells that I resisted in the chat log, but I don't get bound/paralyzed. On the other hand, the frontal WS move from chariots (the beam thingy), can be resisted often (minimum 50ish maximum 500 ish).

the frontal move is fafnir breath: the amount of damage you take varies depending on where in the damage cone you are standing.

    You aren't resisting diffusion ray.
    It's a conic attack.
You are probably seeing variations because of you're position relative to the front of the chariot.

Titan resists Discharge from LAC a lot and the animation is consistent with it being lightning element. Haven't tried Ramuh, since Titan's lasts longer for charm to wear. Inertia stream will usually do full damage though, so its neither thunder nor earth.

I wonder what's the impact of mind/int on paralyze/bind potency and resist.

How in the hell did people come up with them being physical? Have you never used shell?

I've tried barthunder and barblizzara, and I haven't seen a difference in damage with either, that is with capped bar-spell merits. Didn't bother trying the others as I assumed its light or dark damage.

yeah, I'm ignorant for following the description and simply relaying what I saw in discussions (where this wasn't corrected), as well as observed. Piss off.

People have been saying this since the beggining of salvage, and people have been correcting them since the beggining of salvage . You piss off.

Like I said, I've been given every indication to believe that what I said was true because I'd actually heard it (falsely, and I now recognize that) confirmed in the past. There was no need to insult me after I'd already been corrected, and I'll make sure to read every single salvage thread I ever come across in the future. Thanks.

Shadow Ring still works on Discharge and Inertia Stream -> magic damage.

    Re: Chariot AoE element?

Fanatic's Drink accounts for both ordinary physical attacks and most TP moves, even if those TP moves have magical or elemental properties. To my knowledge, all breath attacks ignore Fanatic's in addition to Magic Hammer and a few other specific TP moves (also Mijin Gakure).

However, since the damage of Inertia Stream and Discharge can be reduced by Shell and even MDB, they must inflict magic damage.

We can simply blame the ancient alchemists for printing misleading labels on their bottles of Fanatic's™ brand Nullification Tonic & Spermicidal Lubricant.

Quick, someone photoshop a viagra bottle with "Fanatic's" and an amusing description written on it.
