Yeah let's stop with all the frivolous, illegitimate criticism of political candidates once and for all. Let us only focus on things which we take seriously as a country.Originally Posted by SwampdonkeyPLD

OHWAIT.
The fact is we put that vulnerable country there in the first place, for better or for worse. We provided for one ethnic/religious group at the expense of the eventual alienation of another one. Now of course hindsight is 20/20, but the European Jews ravaged by WWII probably would have been better off with a home in Europe.Originally Posted by Plow
And it's not like we haven't mucked around in the Mideast otherwise. We maintain military bases and have a history of funding/supplying military groups whenever we think they can further our goals, then cut them off, and then watch 10 years later when they decide they don't like us.
Deserved? No, the people in the towers didn't deserve it. But did America "deserve" or should have logically expected the aggression to eventually hit home? Yes.
Whether or not those pictures are frivolous or illegitimate criticisms would be a matter of opinion. Whether or not John McCain was involved with a lobbyist was determined to be untrue 20 years ago. I think there is a difference.Originally Posted by Correction
Right, because Hillary's current platform includes an enormous 'wage class warfare' plank and Obama's speech about race was really a love letter to Marxism.Originally Posted by SwampdonkeyPLD
The only difference is that you'd rather criticize the candidates you don't like more than the candidates you do. Which is all anybody has ever done when discussing their personal politics and you sir, are not above it.
This has been pretty much standard US policy for decades.Originally Posted by Ashira

Not an enormous plank, but it is there and the picture just exagerates that. The same for the Obama picture. I also don't think I'd rather criticize Obama or Hillary either. It's just I didn't see how a criticism based on gossip was more relevant than criticisms based on fact.Originally Posted by Correction
I fucking hate Clinton- it drives me up a wall because I'm about convinced that people aren't voting for her, they're voting for her husband. If she didn't have his legacy to stand on, she wouldn't even be close in this election. It is as dumb as voting for her because she's a woman, or barak because he is or isn't black or whatever. It isn't a vote based on issues, it's a vote based on sentimentality and that is half of what gets us into trouble in the first damned place.
Besides that point, if you read the article that the OP put up as "sure I'd nuke Iran" in a flippant, "tomorrow I'm going to get my hair done, call my daughter, then nuke Iran before I have dinner" manner, you're fucking stupid.
Furthermore, if you buy into this god forsaken idiocy of "Obama is elitist" because he called them bitter you're also stupid. I don't care what "side" you fall on. Drop your fucking allegiances for a minute and be honest about things. People get so wrapped up into picking sides that they place no fault on theirs and all fault on the opponent. It's stupid. Obama was not only honest, but he was RIGHT. And frankly, if I was one of the people in that area I would stop and applaud because here's someone that finally expressed the notion that the working class is not happy. While McCain and Clinton and fuck it every other politician is sucking up to them left and right, patting them on the back for being the backbone of america, our driving force, our heart and soul, what they really mean to do is gain favor because they provide one of the largest voting bases. Unfortunately, they provide one of the smallest lobby bases, so as soon as the election is over they are forgotten. Why WOULDN'T you be bitter? This was not condescension, and if you see it that way you're being intentionally obtuse.
People get such a hard on for trying to galvanize their candidate as being 100% right (tip, none ever is) and trying to inflate a percent of wrong into a national controversy for the other guy.
I bet McCain will end up winning anyways, so yeah...
I would love for someone to explain to me why people love to twist her words at a second notice to make her seem worse, way more so than Obama.Kind of hard to twist words when she's flat out been caught lying already. In a speech in Washington and in several interviews last week Clinton described how she and her daughter, Chelsea, ran for cover under hostile fire shortly after her plane landed in Tuzla, Bosnia.
Several news outlets disputed the claim and a video of the trip, showed Clinton walking from the plane, accompanied by her daughter. They were greeted by a young girl in a small ceremony on the tarmac and there was no sign of tension or any danger.
"I did make a mistake in talking about it, you know, the last time and recently," Clinton told reporters in Pennsylvania where she was campaigning before the state's April 22 primary. She said she had a "different memory" about the landing.
What are the differences between Obama and Clinton? Forgive my lack of research if you would be so kind, but i've been putting it off for a really long time, but the recent comotion over some primaries going on here in PR have awakend some interests, even though i, ultimately, wont be able to get involved this in any meaningfull way. I obviously don't intend to vote or even pay it much attention because it's really just a mock primary which has no real value for god knows what reason, but i would like to know a little more.

Whether it's Hillary or Obama, I'm just glad we'll most likely have a democratic president this year.
Even though either one of them will probably be a one term president lol.
Which is still better than the below-80 IQ Ultra-conservative Texas redneck yokel who is in the White House right now.Originally Posted by BrillCS
I think Hillary is bat-shit crazy, but goddamn I'd rather her be there than any more of this fucking ultra-conservatism we've been dealing with the last 8 years. Bill Clinton left the country with an economic surplus in the billions(correct me if im wrong, I dont recall exact figures) and W plunged us into a deficit before his first term was out. That clown got re-elected because he was a war president. Hell I think we are IN Iraq so he'd have something to campaign on in 2004.
Edit: $559 Billion surplus at the end of Clinton's administration. The Neo-cons can suck my working class cock until such point as they can duplicate that number.
Aside from the tax cuts, name one thing Bush has done that's conservative.Originally Posted by Melchiah
And honest question. Someone explain to me what's so bad about a trade deficit, if that's what you meant. (NOT DEBT) If I go to the grocery store and buy $100 dollars worth of groceries, my checking account shows a deficit but my capital account shows a surplus. The grocery store's checking account shows a surplus, but their capital account shows a deficit. If deficit's are a bad thing then we both got fucked over.

Except theres interest on the money I borrowed, so now I owe them $150,000,000.Originally Posted by SwampdonkeyPLD

If I recall correctly, $406 billion of the 2006 budget was spent on paying off the interest on national debt, compared to ~ $61 billion for education. I could be wrong, but as long as you have a continually have a deficit in the budget, you're going to have an exponentially rising amount of debt, to the point where its impossible to pay it off. When you have to borrow money to pay off previously borrowed money, nothing gets accomplished. I could be wrong, but thats my understanding of it. Theres also no guarantee that the money being invested by the government in the deficit is going to be recycled back to the government.
Someday there will be a Conservative Party thats actually fiscally conservative.
