I have to say... I kind of agree with this guy after finally playing Brawl.

It's not really as badass as I expected to to be, especially after having played Melee (which I prefer).
And he was 100% right about the fanboy part.

Rofl. Awesome video. I love how he spell/grammar checked the hate-mail as he was reading it. That was some pretty shitty mail though.

Oh wow, he's strawmaning all over the place. No one brought up he was totally off on the button-smashing, zooming, or nintendo rant?

I really do hope he read that e-mail I sent him saying nothing about a Super Smash Bros. Brawl review but instead ranting for several long paragraphs saying how he says the word "twat" like a complete twat. Sure he has that accent or whatever but its really no excuse, I've never seen anyone butcher such a simple word in my life.

OK, so he was off on the button-smashing part, and his Nintendo rants are getting old.
He wasn't off on the zooming part though, the camera in Brawl probably the best they could do given that you'd want everyone to be able to see what they are doing on the stage, but a lot of the time it zooms too far out to really be able to see things perfectly, especially with all the effects going off.
You can get used to it after some time, especially after you've played the other Smash Bros. games. Honestly though, I don't know anyone who isn't a hardcore gamer that doesn't have problems with Brawl's zoom.

In fact, I tried to get my cousin to get the game for his Wii after we played it at my friend's house, but his main complaint was that it zooms out too far for him to be able to clearly see anything and it frustrated him.
Obviously I laughed at him, but the fact is, it's a problem for some people and it should be in the review.

Re: The moment you have waited for, Zero Punctutation Brawl!

The only stages I can see zooming being a problem are huge(which I think you can number down to three: Temple, New Pork City, and 75m, MAYBE Spear Pillar since it's kind of tall). I can't see how anyone could have problems with most stages. I don't know exactly what you mean by "zooming" problems, so you will have to go into detail just what the problem is. I mean some people get motion sickness from playing certain games, I'm certainly not going to hold it against platformer x or FPS y. Too far to me would be characters shrinking to much smaller sizes than they would at the start of the match. I can't say that ever happens in normal stages. Though, I'm sure if 4 players separated as far from each as possible, they could work some magic into making the map zoomed out... but not so much for fighting?

Pretty stupid to complain about the zoom feature. If the camera was set up so it stops right behind the farthest player on both sides of the stage, it'd mess up your perspective on where the barrier is to K.O you. The only world where I think the zoom is horrible is that gay Earthbound level (Porky something?) but that world is WAY TOO FUCKING BIG even for FFA and I never play it. Anyways, I saw you mentioned your preference on Melee, and I'd have to say it's just different strokes. I played Melee everyday for 3years straight with about 5~10 buddies after school. I personally love Brawl and it's everything I expected it to be, no voice in the back of my head forcing me to believe that. I think the main problem was people were thinking it was going to be this flawless 100% bug free video game that even Jesus would die on the cross again to play, but what game is that perfect?

    Brawl was everything I wanted to be until I found out there is no Animal Crossing Rep ;______;

But seriously, thinking Yahtzee is full of shit doesn't make you a fanboy. I don't care if he doesn't like the game, he's says things that are not true to justify why he doesn't like it. I could go over his entire review and point out things that just don't add up and not sound like a strawman right out of his recent video. I'm sure plenty of people can, yet none of their opinions will appear in a video where he basically masturbate his ego and cums on the faces of people who disagree with him. This is kind of a new low for him.

This is a fun stage to play with Giant Brawl mode with Giant Mushrooms. The stage feels very normal under those settings XD

If it means anything, the minute you are "magnified" (when knocked off screen) in New Pork City, you are already finished since the stage is the limit already. I prefer this stage than Temple myself since people tend to hide at the bottom making it sometimes difficult to finish off since they bounce everywhere. Besides, nothing more fun than seeing Ultimate Chimera spawn on you and you throw someone in it

Nevertheless, the only times I play any big stage is with irl friends.

Funny imaginative review of the rants but he does sound like he is trying too hard to get people to hate him

Re: The moment you have waited for, Zero Punctutation Brawl!

As far as the button smashing thing goes, technically he's right due to the 100 monkeys in front of typewriters concept. Likely? No, but it is possible for someone with absolutely no skill to hit the right sequence of buttons to beat (or at least match) a pro, and that's true for any fighting game. I remember I played MK2 at a friend's house for the first time and I pulled off an attack even THEY hadn't seen before just by randomly hitting buttons. I didn't win (I got damn close, iirc), but that proves the idea that someone with no experience with something can at least surprise someone with significantly more experience. Apply that to SSBB, which is infinitely more simple in attack execution, and I could see why he brought it up. He's said it many times: Any game where you even have the faintest possibility of completely throwing away strategy is poor game design in his opinion, and you can't really disagree with that.

Also, I'd like to point out that we've yet again become a bunch of fanboys defending SSBB instead of laughing at all the people Yahtzee made fun of, like real /bg/tards.

Wut? Are we playing the same game here? SSBB doesn't have certain moves that a total noob could beat a "pro" in a match, let alone button sequences.* There are characters more powerful than others, i.e Ike, that're easier to use when you first start playing, but by no means is this game broken like most MK. That example is horrible, sorry, because unlike SSBB, in MK you could lock people into walls and get a 100% combo death.

*Unless you're talking about items, which yeah any newbie can pick up a Final Smash or Golden Hammer and finish off anyone.

So if I'm defending a game I'm a fanboy lol? What kind of bullshit is that, where if I disagree with somebody I'm automatically locked into a stereotype. His videos are created for the sole intention of making you laugh, and he always directs his reviews on the negative aspects of every game. But if you lie about the game, how the hell can you call yourself a critic?

I love SSBB, and I love the review and fanmail session he did. People just need to calm down about it. It's a game, after all, it's not like he just dragged your mother into an alley, brutally raped her and then stabbed her to death. It's just his opinion, and I personally think it's very entertaining.

You don't seem to understand the concept of 100 monkeys in front of 100 typewriters. The saying goes 'if you put 100/1000/1000000 monkeys in front of the same number of typewriters/pianos/canvasses, one of them will eventually create Shakespeare/Mozart/Rembrandt.' Which is to say, with absolutely no experience or even an understanding of what you're supposed to do, one can match the masters of a craft by sheer random chance. I provided an example of this from my own life. It's not about certain moves, its about probability, like Chaos Theory, but not as hyperbolic. Really, this can be applied to anything, but fighting games, which are usually based almost entirely on quickly hitting buttons, are more prone to the frenetic, random mashing you'd expect from a monkey with no idea of what he's doing. SSBB is much less complex than most fighting games, so one could argue it's even more susceptible to this.

You're still not getting the concept. The idea is, by random luck, at least one of the most moronic newbies out there could counter anything anyone could think of. Any and all strategy or effort is nullified, that's the entire point of the saying.

They made the game with the intention for kids too (hence the whole no voice/chat in online)
